Uncle Colin takes a back seat!

Featured Replies

Colin deserves to take it easy, he's been a good servant for Notts and I am sure he will still be around. Best of luck to him!

Well done Mr Slater , fantastic servant to radio Nottingham , and Notts County , well deserved rest for a legend , hope you have many years ahead to enjoy and of course still NCFC correspondent.

It was bound to happen one day but I am surprised it happened all of a sudden, no signs and on a match talk day.

Colin Slater has been a good servant to Notts.

"Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value."

Definitely the end of an era.  Colin is almost part of the furniture at Meadow Lane, it was his voice I heard on the radio commentating on Notts when I first started supporting the club 47 years ago.  It's good to hear that  he will still have a strong involvement (he hopes to attend 30-35 games per season) but at his age I think he deserves to miss those Tuesday night trips to Hartlepool in the middle of winter!  I hope the club give him the opportunity to step on the pitch this Saturday at his final home commentary either pre-match or at half time so we can show our appreciation.

What right do you have to tell me I'm wrong?  You're not my Granddaughter.

Top man is uncle Colin, made the right decision though as it must be getting harder to do the mileage in your 80s. He has been an amazing servant to Notts and Radio Nottingham.

It's hard to imagine who would take over from him, though I hope the jokes on Twitter don't remotely come into play. Dean Yeates and Mark Stallard would make a good duo, though I'm sure the BBC will assign someone who's already pre-existing rather than a new face.

I hope the BBC give him a good sending off as Colin Slater is the voice of Notts County.

As others have said before me it really is the end of an era for the club, but the timing is for the best.

Although the time has certainly come for Colin to take it easy at his advanced age, it's still a very sad day. He's part of the fabric of our club. He was also an outstanding commentator in his day who gave you a clear picture of the match, didn't show any bias and didn't degenerate into screaming fits, unlike some others!

Who stepped in for him last season when he was ill, was it Andrew Jackson? If so, he'd be a worthy successor. Mark Stallard can carry on as a pundit, he's doing an excellent job.
