Where should Matt Tootle play?

Matt Tootle has gone on record to say that he wants to continue playing at right-back for Notts.

He told the Nottingham Post: "Quietly I think I had a good season, even though I played everywhere under Shez (Sheridan).

"I couldn't really gain any consistency and I kept telling everyone I needed to be right-back.

"I thought my best game was at home to Peterborough and then the game after I was right wing.

"Once I've got right-back people have seen that I got consistency and I will only get better and better.

"As long as I am fit, and doing well, I will be first choice. I've just got to continue where I left off."

Do you agree with him? Should he carry on at right-back? Or do you think he should be deployed elsewhere?

Yes, if thats his best position and he should know, then thats where he should continue to play. He even scores goals too.

Honestly, I didn't realise that he had played elsewhere.

He's certainly someone who could settle down more but at right back he's okay, gets caught a fair bit but nothing like Carl Dickinson. I can't recall him playing in midfield, so I can't say much about that but if he prefer right back he needs to show Nolan as to why he should be selected. Getting crosses in, linking with the MR and defending well would do that. It also helps when you chip in with goals.

Definitely right back as he hasn't had any influence anywhere else on the park. I would like to see him cut out a few more crosses though, but that is positioning that a decent goalkeeper, or centre half could help him with.

I would put him where he  is comfortable.. players that play out of positions now  that's a gamble and we can't take anymore chances. I would play him in his possession simple. Great player

you have to play people where they feel best, so let him start at right back and if he settles we will know thats where he should play. allow hewitt to move up if he stays with us, hes better than tootle is.

He will hopefully end up as someone pushing for the first team.

So it might be clear I am not his biggest fan but he can do a job at right back which is where I feel he plays better. The good thing is that we have the option of playing someone like elsewhere when its required.

Looked at the title of this thread, and my thoughts were...

'Er... right back... obviously' or am I missing something? Is he like a cat in goal or what?

He has played in midfield but settled better at right back.

Tootle does okay as a squad player, but I would hope we can sign a stronger right back.

Thought he was a solid RB under Nolan. Now you mention it I can remember him playing in midfield, but he never stood out there.
