England win the group. They scored 2 goals in 3 games. Maybe Southgate is a genius and his plan is to lull everyone into a false sense of security and will start playing like Brazil in the knock out stages. Scotland are out.Β

Couldn’t watch another Ardleyball game with England so watched the Scotland game instead. Good game. Modric showed his class tonight. Edge of seat stuff with a good match. Good goal by McG as well.

Shame Scotland are out as everyone loves an underdog.

Regards the England game…seems that it was played with more intent. Will the same team play next week? Unlikely as he’ll go back to traditional team I’d expect. Shame. Saka gave a good account of himself from what I can gather.Β

Saka was fantastic. He did most things right, but didn't drop his head when things went wrong. I don't think Southgate can drop him. Henderson might come into midfield instead of Phillips. Grealish has to start. He played well.Β

Germany losing 2-1 at home to Hungary and are bottom of the group. Portugal 2-2 France. If Portugal lose, they drop to the bottom as it stands. Crazy stuff. Exciting though.Β

Germany equalise. Hungary are now last. France, Germany and Portugal are going through.Β

Well that was a pretty crazy day! At first Hungary were going out, then Germany, then Portugal, then Germany again and finally Hungary. I don't like the third-placed teams qualifying as it takes a lot of the jeopardy out of it, but yesterday was still a lot of fun. We've now got an interesting tie to look forward to...

The last Denmark match was probably my highlight so far. Such passion, such an incredible atmosphere. Fancy them to reach the quarter finals now.Β

On the subject of Denmark...Β

Wales have started strongly against Denmark. Should be a goal up. Bale is pulling the strings. They need to turn domination into a goal because Denmark will get into this game at some point.Β

Denmark 2 up. Moore was fouled for the 2nd goal. Then a catastrophic error by Nico Williams gifted Denmark the goal. Wales are falling to pieces. Could be 3 or 4.Β

Denmark 4-0 Wales. 4th goal was offside and VAR gave it anyway. Harry Wilson sent off when it should have been a yellow. Denmark were the better side and they had the officials on their side.

Italy got of jail against Austria. The Austrians deserved to win the game in normal time. Goal ruled out for offside by VAR and would have had a penalty if the player wasn't offside before being fouled. 2 goals in extra time by 2 substitutes shows how strong the Italian squad is. Austria got a deserved goal but the Italians held on.Β

Czech Republic 2-0 Netherlands. Dutch had a man sent off at 0-0. Didn't adjust and the Czechs were clinical. De Boer is not a good manager. Showed it here.Β

What an incredible day. Spain beat Croatia 5-3 after extra time. The Croats levelled it in injury time after being 3-1 down with 5 mins to go. Spain turned it on in extra time and could have scored 7.Β

France were 1 down to the Swiss, went 3-1 up after the Swiss missed a penalty to go 2 up. The Swiss scored twice in the last few minutes and took it to extra time. No goals. The Swiss won the penalty shootout 5-4. Mbappe who was poor all tournament missed the crucial penalty.

England will never have a better chance to win the Euros!

Brief thoughts so far:

Czech are the best side to look for "tactical pressing"

Always think the Euros are more difficult to win, as there are really no easy matches and the officiating is so much better than World Cups, where refs are given chances from pacific islands from ones geography lessons, long since past

Belgium and Italy are the strongest, England no where near that level yet.

Gary Lineker's famous quote...football is a simple game , played with 22 players, ...and the Germans always win? Well, we will seeΒ  if this is true tonight

Yesterday was pretty incredible! Two recent world champions going into a two-goal lead and blowing it, and France actually bowed out. That's good news for everyone with an eye on the trophy as they're stuffed with quality, but taking the foot off the gas too soon as defensive frailty were their undoing.Β

Tonight it's Germany. As I don't fancy getting punched in the face if we score, I'll probably watch it at home - I'll have a year to gloat about it if we win! I really can't predict it, but my gut says Germany will win.

Let's just hope that Southgate doesn't take away yet another attacking playerΒ in order to shore up the defence and we're left chasing the game.

I'm taking comfort in the fact that Germany have never beaten us on this day in history! We've never beaten them either, but I'll gloss over that fact (1982 England 0-0 Germany).Β

England might up their gears now they've progressed from the group, I wonder if Southgate wanted to take things a bit easier as a way to save fitness for the knockout stages.

I will be nervous watching the game tonight but England needs to be more fired up than the Scotland game.

Imagine playing well and winning, what will the Scot's have to say? ????

England grew in confidence but it's still like watching snails, people are talking about creativity - it's there but not the way they're playing. The reliance on Shaw and Sterling is a joke, when the right has so much space.

When the left gets going, Sterling runs the ball into Germany and we totally miss the runs/effort made by Shaw.

Germany haven't been clever at all, I think the better chances so far have come our way - bar the great save by Pickford. Werner shouldn't have hit it low, a chip would've been more effective.

Defensively, England look okay but there's times when Germany flaunt the 3 defenders.

Rice's booking wasn't a yellow, he was fouled by the German. ????

Grealish needs to come on and play on the right, we are trying to ground the game and make Germany run. It's important that we start to make better movement.

England got the job done. Germany didn't deserve anything out of the game. Scratch and Sniff aka Low was so negative. Southgate's tactics are working. Can't argue with the results.Β

i think defensively england have been solid so far, people are calling southgate and the lack of creativity but saving grealish was a masterstroke. he changed the game and played part in both goals, i thought germany was dreadful. how can anyone praise them like some of the pundits did? they have been terrible all tournament and deserve to go home.

Ukraine beat Sweden 2-1 after extra time. 2 bang average sides. England won't be losing any sleep. If they approach the game properly, England will win. No question.Β

The sending off for Sweden was harsh. Is he not supposed to go for the ball? The Ukrainian was the one who was late and was his own fault that he got caught. Football is going soft.Β

Spain were expected to win and they did but it took a penalty shootout. It wasn't convincing by any means.

Italy were superb. Belgium didn't play badly, Italy were just better. 2 great goals. They are the biggest threat to England.Β

I think if people are being honest, Italy are head, shoulders and toes above England. They were sublime to watch tonight. What international football should be all about. 2 great teams playing good football, with one clearly set up to win better than the other. Individual skill and great management won it tonight imo.
