  1. Yes if we can keep relatively injury free and maybe make a couple of judicious signings in January I think promotion could become a reality, I certainly hope so.

  2. I think it's very promising. Notts always tails off towards Decemeber usually, New Year being a very crucial point, and I think it's a good thing that Jevani Brown is starting to come into it more. With the lack of options between Jatta and David McGoldrick, we need someone to step in when one or the other needs resting. We have a tendency to play McGoldrick to the point where he really would benefit from time out, and usually that hits us when we most need him the most. He's handled it well this season so far, McGoldrick as his second half of the 2023-24 season I wasn't all that bothered about keeping him, for another year, and thought he would be more of a 'bench/impact player'. There's no doubt he's been one of the best things about this current campaign, so with Brown coming into things more, it's encouraging that we aren't so isolated with options up top. Jatta will get goals, but my concern is those games where we need the striker to be more involved. That's not his style of play, so I think we have done well to be where we are now considering allowing Macaulay Langstaff and Junior Morias to go, without a replacement hasn't yet caused us any major issues unlike losing Matt Palmer to injury did last season. If we can get to the January transfer window, still being in the top 3 and without being 5–7 points off from the league leaders. I think this would give a real sense that automatics is possible, we could continue to be in the running with them, but I do think it's far more likely that we'll be behind the champions come the season ending. Whilst playoffs isn't a negative, I would hope we avoid them. As, I feel if we are serious about this current campaign, then we need to avoid wasting what start we have made, and use the previous season as an example of how we can further challenge for an automatic place. There's not much that we really need, and I believe squad wise we do have the quality, but every other team come January will be trying to strengthen themselves. I feel this season would be a waste if we didn't try to ensure we aren't limited. A winger and striker on paper, is all we need and whilst a prolific goalscorer doesn't grow on trees or is easily found, we could benefit from someone who is different and can contribute with them.

  3. A few key things need to happen for the answer to be a yes. 1) Pick up wins against promotion rivals. Our record is mixed. We've lost to Gills and Vale, but beat Wimbledon. We've drew to Chezzy if you want to count them. We've got Donny, Walsall, MK and maybe Crewe in that. 2) Signing a striker and a winger (to play wing-back) who both have pace. The one thing we lack in our side is pace. Whilst some will say we've replaced Macca already with Jatta, to me they are different players. We need them runs in behind to stretch teams who sit deep. If we had Macca and Jatta together this season, we'd be laughing. 3) A strong mentality. This is something I've wanted for so long in a Notts team and Luke Williams brought it. That promotion team were mentality monsters. A similar thing is going to be needed this season. I love how we've started doing a huddle before ever game. 4) More consistent performances. Whilst we have only lost 2 out of 14, I still think Notts can play a lot better than they have been. The Grimsby, Bromley and Harrogate performances are the standard. Stu and the players will know we can play better. Hit them consistent performances and autos is a real possibility

  4. Well my fellow PON Members. That is the question. Can Notts get Promotion in 2025? Notts have made a great start & with a quarter of the season completed they sit in 3rd position in the table on 26 points, with just 2 losses in 14 matches. Notts have shown improvements in the defensive area that has seen them only concede 12 goals in the league, which is less than 1 goal a game on average. Notts have continued to demonstrate, that although they lost Langstaff before the beginning of the season, they haven't lost their potency up front, with 22 goals scored in the league up to now. Notts have all the all round attributes to make a challenge this season, & it is entirely possible that a team with 90 points could get automatic promotion, Notts are well on the way. I think it is possible for Notts to get automatic promotion this year. They do have some tough games coming up this month, starting at Doncaster. If they can get through these tough matches this month with a reasonable points tally, & get some of their best players back from injury in January, the promotion charge will be on. Thoughts?

  6. Yes. But it may Not be Automatic the Magpies may have to rely on the Play offs and another Wembley visit. I say this because despite the Fact Notts have produced some Excellent Performances with the size of the Injury list at the Lane, I still can't shake the Feeling that at some point the Injuries to Key Players is Going to have some sort of effect on the Squad and Match Results. I could be Wrong and I hope that I am, but even with the return of Jodi and the others it's going to take time for those players to become Match Fit once again and that may have a Negative effect on the Magpies Automatic Promotion Bid.

  7. This topic quickly went off track, and became about opinions/alternative motives rather than a discussion. It does nothing for politics, nor the community, and only has a domino effect. Therefore, these are my reasons for closing it. I don't believe the initial post is an anti monarch article, that's my personal opinion but the points it raised after hasn't contributed to a productive conversation.

  10. I've seen a lot of talk on Twitter about the scrapping of FA Cup replays and that sides from non league have missed out on important revenue. Guiseley, Kettering (even though they won in extra time), Weston-super-Mare, Maidenhead, Southend and Forest Green all missed out on replays due to the scrapping of them. That brings me to the bigger question. What, in modern day football, needs to be changed or what would you change to bring back our game. FA Cup replays, independent regulator, distribution of money to other leagues, salaries etc? What's your opinions?

  11. Is Jose Mourinho in Hot Water? The Fenerbahce Boss spoke of being Lied to during a Post Match Interview. Where he Panned Turkish Match officials and Their VAR. He stated that his Team not only had to play the Opposition, but the System as well. After his team snatched a Dramatic 3-2 Victory with a Goal in the 102nd minute, Mourinho went on his Rant in the Post Match Interview, claiming the Fenerbahce President had only told him Half the Truth to get him to Turkey and if he had been aware of the Whole Truth he wouldn't have gone to the Turkish side. Mourinho's side was 1-0 up when the Referee gave the visiting Trabzonspor team two Penalties after speaking to the VAR Official. Mourinho blasted the VAR Official because he gave the Penalties when the Referee hadn't and had denied his side a Penalty before they snatched their late win. So was the Chosen One hinting at Corruption within the Turkish Game? Or is he trying to Get the Sack because he No Longer wants to be the Fenerbahce Head Coach? Was it a Disguised plea to some Premier League Club, to come and Rescue him from his Turkish Nightmare? It seems very Strange to have a Pop at your Employers in such a way and gives the Impression, Jose Wants Out.

  12. The Following Question has been Raised and I'd like to Know, Which Is It ? To My Fellow PON Members. Over the past Few weeks the Magpies Match Reports on the B.B.C. Website have changed. The Boys in the Black & White Stripes Used to be Called Notts County. However in Match Reports they are Now Simply Referred to as Notts. And it seems that some Magpies Fans are Up in Arms about it. Asking why our Team are Now just Written as Notts and Not Notts County? So Where Do You Stand On The Issue? Dose It Bother You If You're Called A Notts Fan? Do You Call Yourself A Notts Fan? Or should the Magpies be called by their Full Title Notts County? And You Are A Notts County Fan?

  16. This is a great question and could be a long thread! - Club ownership needs to be tied to a strict set of conditions, a "fit and proper persons test" on acid. No more sportswashing, no more ownership by dodgy foreign states. - Clubs need to be accountable to fans. There needs to be a mechanism that allows supporters to block certain decisions by club owners, such as stadium moves or name changes. - Scrap VAR. - Implement a total ban on betting advertisements in football. - Eject all Milton Keynes-based franchises from the Football League / National League. - Bring back FA Cup replays; sentence whoever suggested scrapping them to a week in Mansfield. - We need to create more opportunities for UK-based players in the Premier League in particular. Maybe a minimum number of players in the matchday squad who have been in the UK from a certain age. - The Premier League and the Football League need to be merged and possibly expanded to include the fifth level. At the minute, the PL is acting in the narrow interests of its 20 members and opening up a yawning gap to the rest of the professional game. This has to end. The wealth has to be shared to keep our game competitive and exciting and healthy in the long term. If this means that PL clubs have to give up their financial advantage over the continent's other top clubs, so be it. - And to do all of the above we need an independent regulator with representatives from the PL/FL, non-league, the government, supporters' groups and the PFA. Otherwise, we'll simply carry on with the status quo.

  17. No I Don't mean Ken Dodd, Jimmy Tarbuck or Arthur Askey. Simply your average Liverpool Football Fan. The Comment section on the Have Your Say section after Liverpool's 4-0 Demolition of German Bundesliga Champions Bayer Leverkusen is full of Funny Witty and Sarcastic Comments. Liverpool are now known as the Slot Machine after New Head Coach Arne Slot. Liverpool could win the Quadruple and there would still be Fans that Moan. But Liverpool haven't Played Any decent team Yet. I'll reserve Judgement on this Liverpool team, until they've played the Teams above them. Xabi touching This Is Anfield Sign. Class is Permanent. A Small Quibble how come 4-1 is a Thrashing and 4-0 is Easing Past Someone. Just a Few comments I Enjoyed . Slot Machine. Corny I know but it made me Smile. Liverpool could Win the Quadruple and there would still be Fans that Moan. I think something along the Lines of Stuart Maynard getting Notts Promoted from League 2 into the Premiership and Winning Trophies both at Home and In Europe some Fans still wouldn't be Satisfied. But Liverpool haven't played any Decent Teams Yet. So the German Champions, who went through their Championship winning season unbeaten aren't a Decent side? I think this Fan was just being Sarcastic? Just a Tad. Reserving Judgement on the Current Liverpool Team until they've played the Teams above them. Top of the Premier League and Champion League Group, another Witty and Sarcastic Remark. Xabi touching This Is Anfield Sign. Class Is Permanent. You'll Get No Argument From Me. I Like to see EX-Players and Coaches pay their Respects to the Fans of their Former Clubs.. Good Question. So why is it 4-1 is a Thrashing, but 4-0 is just Easing Past Someone? The Mystery of the Mind of Some Football Reporters or Pundits. Well from Someone who has sat through a Ken Dodd Laughter Show, for 6 hours and laughed at his opening Joke right till his Last Joke. I'll Say Tatty Bye Everybody.

  18. Just looking at the transfers in only two players have arrived since Klopp left, so the Liverpool squad is still extensively Klopp's. Seems a good move by the new manager not to change too much. Let's see if he can continue the Klopp success. Klopp won the PL title once & the Champions league, so will Slot be just as successful? That remains to be seen. Bob Paisley won the league championship six times & European Cup three times, & fourteen major trophies overall over a nine year tenure.

  21. Very True @Robbie Very True. I Think Didzy as been the Nearest thing to a Leader on the Pitch for Notts this Season.

  22. @Wheelbarrow repair man It would be also a great finish for Didzy if he could help get Notts promoted, but even if he doesn't, he's been a credit to this Club, for his leadership, his example to his colleagues & his performance on & off the pitch.

  23. My Player of the Season So Far? David McGoldrick. Didzy has produce some Excellent Displays on the Pitch and Scored some Vital Goals. I think his Contract ends this Season, and if this is his Swan Song he's certainly going about it the Right Way, that is to leave a Lasting Impression at the Lane, if he can keep up his Present Form until the Season's end he's going to be a serious Candidate to take the Title of Notts Player of the Season.

  26. The game against Donny is definitely going to be Notts's biggest challenge of the season so far. However, I do have much more confidence in Notts to get a result in these type of matches nowadays. Much will depend on whether some of the injured players will become available again, players like Didzy, Dan & Scott Robertson. Even if they are not in the team, I'm sure Notts will still give a good account of themselves. Until we know a little more about the fitness of those players, I will hold back from naming my team for the match.

  27. Will the Notts Unbeaten Away Record continue at Donny? You Know I Think it Just Might. Then again the record will End Eventually and Rovers could be the team to Do It. A Hard Fought Game which could go either way, and the Odd Goal may separate the sides at the Match's End But I'm going to Plump for a 1-1 Draw

  28. @Wheelbarrow repair man It will be a challenge for Pep, it's very unusual for City to lose a match, so just one loss has got the media in a frenzy. I think the choice of my title was more a kin to being a little facetious regarding the situation. If Pep can't get City out of this "mini crisis" (three defeats on the bounce) questions will start to be asked by the media on whether Pep is up for a fight or not. The Media are good at making a drama look like a crisis. It's the click & bait age for all said & done.

  29. Kamala's a B***h. Sorry Karma 's a *B***h ain't it Pep? For years Manchester City have managed to avoid Major Injuries to their Top players, and their Arab owners have spent vast amounts of money to bring in World Class players to literally buy Trophies in English Domestic Football, making the Premier League a Joke. I wouldn't say City were in a Crisis, but it may be a Situation Pep has never found himself in Before, Now we'll see how Good a Coach he is. But then again he should have enough of a Strong in Depth Squad to overcome his sides Injury problems. So I still expect the Blue side of Manchester to be in the Mix for Trophies come the seasons end.

  33. Mourinho is always known for speaking his mind & telling all & sundry how it is. He certainly gets the headlines & people sit up & listen when he speaks. He's one of those one off managers that come around ever so often & you will either love him or loathe him. When he gets upset, he really does go for it & it looks no different here. Whether he's regretting the appointment or not, I will be surprised if he is still working in Turkey by the end of the week, but of course, I may be wrong. The guy is certainly an entertainer. Something that is sadly lacking in the vast majority of football managers today.
