  1. i am a bit fed up of all the claims that we need new defenders and that our tactics dont need to be changed, whilst i get that signing better defenders would be ideal, i dont think its that practical. we have a good set of defenders who just lose their heads and make poor decisions at times which unfortunately prove to be costly. i think kyle cameron and aden baldwin are two players who can become better if they were paired with someone more strong minded when it comes to defending. if we could find a no nonsense type defender that is good at organising and defending under pressure it would make a huge difference. tactically, i do think we need to be smarter when out of possession and ensure players are instructed to get back. it might be worth trying to keep two defenders back at all times and make sure they are supported when needed. the high defensive line invites teams to play balls over the top, so this needs to be focused on in training. i think luke williams needs to work one on one with each defender and get them running drills recreating the errors. the issue is how quickly they need to react and that causes the errors. if we can train in these scenarios and help with confidence it would make a difference. we cant simply go out and buy a new set of defenders every time we encounter something that can be tactically addressed and worked on in training. we are a very offensive minded team but i see no reason why we cant defend at the same time.
  2. lovely strike with the outside of his foot, that type of curve is hard to pull off. great technique to finish his movement off with.
  3. the site has had so many ups and downs, but i am really thankful to have somewhere i feel accepted. the pon website has been somewhere i have called home from my early teens, i have seen notts have so many disappointing seasons where it was made easier having a group on here. despite all the ups and downs, pon has been there. members have somewhere they belong, we want you and encourage notts fans to share their thoughts in a relaxed atmosphere. i can name quite a few members who i wished were still a part of the site and for whatever reason things have changed, but with the reedtz has our owners and the direction we are going. i would like to encourage you all to try to spend a week coming on, posting and commenting as you can and by the end of the week see if you feel a part of something special. the likes of @Magic magpie, @Feral Fox, @Joe Jones, @Super_Danny_Allsopp, @weymouthPIE, @Northants Pie, @Canadian, @Turkey_Twizzler, @Riverleeno, @Cobby, @MuddyPatchPie, @william1984, @Captain Sticky, @wacky, @jurgenpie. i am struggling now, i may have missed some too. sorry if i have! i would extend my message to newcomers too, come be a part of something exciting and show other clubs that we have such a rich fan site that is very good. have fun engaging with a community that cares about the club. its through pon and @Chris, @super_ram and @GrannyPie that i felt comfortable being myself here. @Fan of Big Tone and many others of the members when i joined made me feel like this was my online home.
  4. @menzinho ah often complained about the funds being dropped before we were sold. the academy has all the things in place to produce good talent, we just need to give players more time to establish themselves into the squad. it will take seasons to make them fully integrate but we tend to give up. sam osborne had me excited, he was showing great signs of progress but he was compared to experienced players by the manager. which is wrong in my eyes, we need to make allowances for youngsters to get to the level we need, without holding them back because they are no better than what we already have. the fact for me, osborne showed some real grit and energy when he came into the squad. he would score and look unpredictable. i hope james sanderson gets more game time in the future, we dont need to rush this but we do need to ensure our young players get first team minutes.
  5. @4everapie the first is just as shocking, what the hell was aden baldwin doing? i get that players slip but that was just stupid. we need to start taking pride in the way we defend, i get that heads panic when teams are attacking and only a few are back but we need to show more confidence.
  6. hello, @Strawb66. welcome to the pon site.
  7. we do have players who can defend, but maybe they just dont work well together and especially in this back three system at times. one really good defender could see improvements, much like when we signed john bostock in midfield. he made a massive difference and it got us playing. kyle cameron and aden baldwin are fine in my eyes. i feel a bit less disappointed today, but having listened to luke williams it seems he feels responsible for the players. we need at least two defenders back at most times and the wingers need to pull back too. much quicker than we tend to see, but some of yesterdays mishaps would not help if we had parked the bus. they would have still gone in.
  8. if you did not go to the game, dont watch the highlights and your weekend will be preserved. you would not think were playing defenders by how we gifted them each of their goals. from falling over and then not bothered to get up. to heading the ball straight to their only player, so they went one on one with our keeper despite little pressure. two a major lack of control and being caught out. very poor defending!
  9. all three goals we painfully caused ourselves, it was very poor defending. we did look okay going forward and had some good efforts which might have made a difference if they had gone in. shrewsbury town deserve the win, we cant expect to win when we cant control our own errors.
  10. no plans and with it being cold, i just want a weekend of watching tv and relaxing.
  11. in luke williams we trust! that said, i do hope to see more of jr morias as he seems a very useful asset and just needs game time.
  12. wonderful video and art, it makes me wish i could draw. its really stunning with the final unveil.
  13. i do feel excited about the cup, i think we do have a good chance of making the next round. if we play to how we can, i think we should be able to use meadow lane to our own advantage we just need to start brighter and stay alert. coyp!
  14. fingers crossed it stays like this, but it should. well done to the grounds staff and club!
  15. the pitch should be fine, the areas around the ground be normal by now. the notts staff and groundsman would not have taken the covers off this early if they thought there was a high chance of the game being called off. i think shrewsbury will see a more organised and threatening notts. issue is how will we defend and if they have learned what causes us to have headaches. i hope the games goes ahead.
  16. roy carroll had a few howlers, as did scott loach. i liked ryan schofield he tried but i dont think he was the right fit for the situation we were in. i am sure its made him a stronger keeper having experienced his time here,
  17. fingers crossed we can sign one or two defenders, macari would be ideal for the future. he would get minutes but i do think we need a more taller and physical, defensive minded player who wants to stop goals from happening.
  18. did you have a similar issue @Dan? i am pleased charlie managed to get his eyes checked and managed to avoid any loss of sight. that would have been very sad to learn. so i am pleased he maanged to get it resolved.
  19. the club would not have taken the covers off this early had they thought there was a big chance of the game being called off, we have good grounds staff too, so i think its unlikely it will be called off. we have had worse condition than this, its starting to become more normal. so, only doubt is the pitch.
  20. jr morias looked very eager to do well, i think hes proving that there is room for him. his finish was that of pure instinct. i thought dan crowley was going to try to slip macaulay langstaff through but once he played it to morias it seemed destined for the back of the net. i am so happy for him.
  21. what a guy, its hard not to love or appreciate jim. his celebration really got the kop going. when players make an effort to interact with the crowd, it does encourage the support and we saw this against crawley town. he had that chance a short time earlier where he seemed frustrated not to have gotten onto the ball. he did not need an invitation for his second chance. great goal!
  22. we need to compose ourselves a little better to begin with, crawley chased everything and made it hard but a good team might have scored a second before we had even equalised. i am very happy with the overall performance, the second half we were superb and i always felt confident knowing we would be attacking the kop. i think every player who covered did a very reliable role and helped not to miss anyone majorly but we can see the difference the likes of matt palmer makes. yet sam austin coming in and doing what he can certainly helped.
  23. at least he agrees we are a good team, our first season back in the football league and we are earning further respect from opposition managers.
  24. @Ohh Tommy Johnson i just dont think the government should do everything in their power to change the rules to protect the bbc, who bully and harras people who dont have a tv licence. with some people that do still watch tv without a licence, they do go out of their way to scare people into it and the uk government dont do what the majority of people want. it should become subscription based. the bbc should finally be independent and not reliant on having friends within politics.
  25. happy belated birthday notts. did anyone turn meadow lane into a cake? if so, i want some.
