  1. Channel 5 have the rights to Saturday FL highlights which will be broadcast at 9pm. So long as Adrian Chiles & Andy bloody Townsend keep away from the show I'll watch. It'll be a 90 minute highlights show, so at least half a dozen ad breaks......

  2. An interesting debate on the radio this morning. Apparently Christmas presents for pets are a multi million pound industry, people interviewed all said they were buying a present for their pet and one person even said they buy their fish a present!

We've got a cat, two rabbits and some fish but we don't bother buying for them, have you got a pet and do you buy it a present at Christmas?

  3. Roy Carroll: Earned himself a needless booking for disputing a foul on Liam Noble, but made a series of excellent saves to keep the score down. 7

Curtis Thompson: The right-back was solid if unspectacular. Tried to be creative going forward but found it tough going. 6

Louis Laing: The Forest defender will be kicking himself at being on the losing side for the first time since he arrived from the City
    Ground on loan. 6

Haydn Hollis: Went close with a header in the first half and made a couple of excellent tackles when Swindon created great opportunities. 6

Blair Adams: Final ball just lacked that bit of quality at times, but no faulting his effort both defensively and offensively. 6

Garry Thompson: Toiled away, but found himself well marshalled by the Robins whenever he found himself in possession. 6

Gary Jones: Tough afternoon for the experienced midfielder against a midfield of pace and creativity. 6

Liam Noble: The midfielder saw a free-kick saved, but was targeted by Swindon off the ball perhaps trying to exploit his fiery temperament. Sent off in the second half. 6

Drissa Traore: Very comfortable on the ball, but just lacked a little creative vision in trying to open up the Swindon defence. 6

Stephen McLaughlin: Was always going to be a threat from delivering set-pieces and had a great duel with Nathan Byrne. 6

Jake Cassidy: Tried desperately to get into the game, but the lack of service was a problem for the on-loan Wolves forward. 6

Subs: Michael Petrasso (for Cassidy 46), Shaun Harrad (for Curtis Thompson 62), Ryan Hall (for Jones 69); not used: Smith, McKenzie, Cranston, Pilkington

I'll post mine below (I realize this is all opinionated but giving 6's seems a little idol to me)

They're having a laugh right? Thoughts?

  4. A few shocks. Dover went to Cheltenham and won 1-0. Chester held Barnsley at Oakwell. Blyth beat Hartlepool away. Result of the round.

Worchester drew 1-1 at Scunthorpe. I must say Worchester are very physical. They injured 2 Scunny players and should have been down to 10 men. They have no ground so the replay will be at Kidderminster. Scunny should wear 2 pairs of shin pads in the replay!

  5. I have to be honest, this is one of them "easy listening songs" but I never knew the lyrics completely until a few weeks back. BBC Nottingham radio was discussing songs which are about stalkers or describes them in situations.

Famously like The Police - Every Breath You Take.

The song I thought about was never mentioned but it's awkward.

  6. It's been awhile since I last offered, we have a few more regulars and well I thought I'd have a stab at designing some. Of course - I hope people don't mind, I'm not trying to force a unique image but I am trying to be helpful.

These do not have to be used, however I am more than happy to upload them via the ACP (Admin Control Panel) for members who are unsure how.

  7. Is anyone watching this tonight on BBC2?

Mrs. H. is out on the razzle with her mates, so I've got the house to myself, I'm treating myself to a curry and I've got a couple of bottles of real ale my son brought be back from the Lake District, Coniston Brewery - Bluebird bitter and Old Man Ale (very appropriate, thanks son).

Actually he tells me that the Old Man refers to the Old Man of Coniston which is mountain, hmmm, I'll believe him I suppose.

Anyway that's me sorted tonight, anyone else watching it? What do you think the score will be, I reckon Hartlepool will win comfortably, maybe 3-0 or more.

  8. The following article is about students going to a game (free I 'spose), to watch Brighton take on Millwall. This is part of the course and a field trip.

Now how times have changed, Football matches eh... what happened to the blue john caverns?

Also rightly or wrongly there is stereotyping in this report...

  9. A Chesterfield fan who taunted Bradford City fans about the fire at Valley Parade which claimed 56 lives has been banned for life. Quite right too, he should be prosecuted as well, how sick can you get?

  10. Having witnessed a number of poor officials last season and again this campaign, I have been trying to understand why this is exactly and I do think I might have a valid point. Darren Deadman and Stuart Attwell in my opinion are prime example of this, I don't think they're just "poor" officials. I believe a lot of it stems from how they officiate games.

Both avoided stamping their authority in the games.

They did issue cards, yet neither really "voiced" themselves. I think Referees in this league need to get a little smarter, they need to make the players respect them and avoid giving unnecessary cards when a simple warning could be given instead. A player would respond in my opinion better, it would cut out players who flop to the ground and I honestly feel that there's a lot absent respect for referees in the modern game, yet I do think a lot of it they're to blame for.

No doubt it's tough, though it's not exactly rocket science.

I think both Darren and Stuart lost the games early, neither was really in control and I don't think it's right to say it was because they were "big" games. I think it all boils down to how they conduct themselves and make themselves known.

    Thoughts?

  11. one year ago, the Grealish/McGregor inspired 'pies were seemingly climbing up to midtable and orient were running away at the top.  it just proves - if proof were needed - that one weekend doth not maketh a season...

so, onwards to PNE - the paintpot cup represents a reasonable path to wembley, we're closer than we have been via this route for a while (wolves '88 perhaps?).

to me, recent history at preston conjures up a plastic pitch, billy davies, and a prime example of 90s/00s bottom-division-resurgence-clubs (hull, swansea, cardiff, burnley, fulham to name a few).   players that link the clubs - well, i missed the opening game of the season so although a repeat fixture, we should have pletny of fresh names to go at.

i'll start with david reeves, and am sure there'll be more.

  12. Please join me in giving @Carlos a warm PoN welcome.Hope you enjoy our site and join in with the fun.

  13. All could go wrong for our nighbours, they have been given an embargo along with Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers. These are no real surprise, I think we knew for sure that two of these teams would be included.

The problem is how complexed the embargo is and how teams can still get around it.

It also could spell an end to us obtaining the two players sent out on loan by them, they may now be forced to keep Louis Laing and Stephen McLaughlin.

Now one of them would be a bigger lose but both are useful in my opinion.

On Saturday, I heard comments about if this happened Shaun would have to rely on other clubs. Why don't we try to build a relationship with Leicester City? I think all local teams is a good thing to focus on.

What do you make of the embargo? Who said that??!?!

    nelson-ah-ah.jpg?w=300&h=228

  14. shaun does not understand why noble was sent off, it looked much worse than the highlights but i could not understand why we had won a free kick and he saw red.

i noticed the elbow, it did seem to be dangerous but unintentional.

if its classed as dangerous, will the decision be rescinded?

anyone think we will be successful?

  15. Louis Laing: Notts County keen for Forest defender to return

_79674100_pa-20964551(2).jpg Assistant manager Greg Abbott says Notts County would be "daft" not to try to re-sign Nottingham Forest defender Louis Laing on loan in January.

Laing's emergency loan stay at Meadow Lane can not be extended beyond Saturday's match against Swindon Town.

The League One side have not lost a match in which the 21-year-old former Sunderland man has featured in since September, winning seven of 11 games.

"Louis has been terrific for us," Abbott told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"If you are looking forward, and are trying to move the club forward, the younger ones are the ones we like to get in.

"He has to go back because his loan is up and he will talk to [Forest manager Stuart Pearce], who will tell him what his plans are for him."

Meanwhile, Magpies captain Hayden Mullins is close to returning to action, having only managed to play 37 minutes since 2 September.

"His problem is going to be how well the young players have done and getting him into the team," said Abbott.

"His experience, nous and quality makes it fantastic for us that he will be available over a really busy challenging period."

just noticed @notts-joe refer to this, so i thought i would put it up.

i hope we can sign him up again, i do not see the point in him not featuring or sitting on the bench. i also heard that hobbs is close to returning, with that in mind i dont see him getting ahead of the established and experienced players.

get him back! what about you?
  16. I think some will have this labelled as "I'll accept a draw", I would have myself but I don't know why, I feel we might be a side capable of surprising Swindon Town. When you look at each times form and then compare, well you would again side with Swindon but it's never plain sailing.

They've done extremely well against top sides, teams you would expect them to struggle against.

Against sides low down it becomes a little more surprising but teams which play as a tight unit actually get something against them. I wouldn't write ourselves off here and I wouldn't put it down as a draw either. I expect the game to be difficult, they will cause us trouble but I think if we are strong defensively, if we make sure Carroll is protected to the best of the players ability, I think we could score either on the break or from a set piece.

I just hope that a positive performance follows, grit and determination. If we're to get something we need to make sure we frustrate them and play a smart game going forward.

It's for us to spoil, it's for them to gain and handle the pressure which is mounting.

    1-0 Notts! Goal by McLaughlin.

    COME ON YOU PIES!!!

  18. Wigan players are helping out their supporters with some Christmas Cheer, as they are going to pay half of the match ticket for the first 500 fans to buy them.

The away game at Leeds is likely to cost £36.00 each and coming on Boxing day is considered to be a bit too steep...

A big well done to them

  19.

Manager Shaun Derry has asked for a sense of realism after the Swindon loss...

The Magpies lost 3-0 to Swindon Town as the Robins climbed to the top of the league and the boss wants everyone connected to the club to realise how far they have come in a short space of time.

He told BBC Radio Nottingham post-match that it was easy to forget their position just 12 months ago and praised his side for where they sit now, seventh in League One.

Meanwhile Derry also praised the visitors after a fantastic display.

He said: "We are obviously disappointed. It has been and I'm hoping it will continue to be a successful season for us, but we have got to take our medicine today.

"Fair credit to Swindon. They are the best team I've seen at this level.

    "They played fantastically well.

"It hurts, but they played really well, we didn't perform as well as we could do. That's where we are and we need people here to have a sense of realism.
    Full Story - Here

Why is it when we lose or perform badly 'realism' is slapped around?

I might predict a win, however this is because of how well we have been doing. I honestly felt our experience would count for something myself, I wouldn't be disappointed with losing had we had not done it the way we did. The defending was poor, that's what disappointed me because before their goal we looked like we might have stunned them.

We pretty much allowed them to dominate the game, we just stood off them and allowed them to attack.

Swindon played classy, we played very poor. There's no comparison, yet I do feel when you ask for backing and say that last year won't be repeated. Some fans will expect Notts to be better, personally I accept the defeat it happens.

I just don't like this, it's like poking a wound when there's no need to do so.

    Thoughts?

  23. I thought there was a discussion on this already, however I couldn't find one and in any case it's been a considerable length of time since, so it's probably best to re-start one.

Name the things you like and hate about football.

    I'll start with "hate"...

I hate the word gaffer, it's naff. What's wrong with Manager? I wished we wouldn't refer to our managers as the "gaffer". Why? It sounds like someone who talks too much so you get out the gaffer tape to keep 'em quiet.

I hate, diving, time wasting (where it becomes obvious), players who fight, Forest, Millwall, Leeds (to name a few). I hate managers who can't accept defeat, also the one's whom are biased and disillusioned. Over pricing items and tickets, I hate reading about clubs which fleece it's fans, referees without a clue and lastly I hate how pitches get the blame for poor results.

    I like...

Community spirit! In football this rules and at games like Preston (this season), Oldham (last) and many others it just adds to the football. I love seeing small teams doing well, Notss winning (which NCFC fan doesn't?), Good goals (especially our own). I liked playing (enough said), I like how Notts is a family club, going to watch football with @super_pie and my family when they can go, I like it when referees get the crowd singing, yet even better when you don't notice the referee at all, good saves, players who connect with their supporters.. The list continues!

    What about you?
