  1. Steve McClaren recently stated in local press that he is currently tracking the progress of some out of contract players, interestingly he mentioned us. Which players is he keeping tabs on?

Only this morning I spoke to a scout from Derby, obviously he wouldn't tell me much.

Ah... Oh well! Sheehan? Liddle? Bart? JCR? Murray? Spencer? Who could it be.

  3. Welcome to PON and I hope you enjoy taking part in the forums. Take a look at the other stuff available on the site as well such as the blogs and reports etc...

  4. Hey there! I'm a new member from Italy. I support Juventus, and as many of Juve fans I'm grateful to Notts County for giving us our wonderful colours! :-)

Just about our colours, I would like to ask you something about a Notts County football shirt:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BNWT-NOTTS-COUNTY-FC-XL-FOOTBALL-SHIRT-SOCCER-JERSEY-TOP-NOTTINGHAM-ENGLAND-/281319718687

I want to buy it, but I can't understand neither if it is a training or playing kit, nor the corresponding season of employment.

    Could someone help me?

    Thank you very much!

    Andrea

  5. Don't forget to pick up your 56 page Fword souvenir in today's Nottingham Post.

I know @super_ram will be queuing outside his local newsagent this morning. :joker:

What a joke that rag is.

  6. http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/26396253

Fingers crossed he gets some game time against Man City! Would be good to see him on the big stage.

  7. Yes, the FA are actually considering introducing premier league B teams into the Football League.: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27289819

I can't think of anything worse than watching Notts play in an empty stadium against another club's reserve team! It's a stupid idea. If they want B teams in a league, make a B team league. Don't destroy proper football just to please the big clubs and give some fanboy who couldn't even point to Manchester on a map but owns a replica shirt so thinks he's a real fan the chance to say he's actually been to see a game, albeit against Tranmere Rovers. No thank you!

In fact would it even be helpful to the big clubs? They want to produce players who can play at International level. Would playing away at Dagenham & Redbridge on an awful pitch really be beneficial? I can't see it myself.

So memebers of the FA - stick this idea where the sun don't shine!

    Rant over.

  8. No real surprises imo.

TEN players are leaving Notts County after not being offered new contracts, the Post understands.

Manager Shaun Derry is busy putting together his retained list of those player he wishes to keep and those who will not feature in his plans in League One next season.

And the club will today announce where the axe has fallen, in terms of those players not offered new terms at Meadow Lane after their deals ran out.

While the likes of skipper Alan Sheehan, Gary Liddle, Jamal Campbell-Ryce, Jimmy Spencer and Ronan Murray have all been busy negotiating terms with the Magpies hierarchy, other senior members of the squad will leave for pastures new.

Among them is the man who started the 2013/14 campaign as club captain, under then manager Chris Kiwomya, in defender Dean Leacock.

Fellow defenders Manny Smith and Gareth Roberts are also leaving the club.

In the midfield department, Andre Boucaud has not signed an extension.

The Trinidad and Tobago international signed an 18-month contract back in January 2013, after impressing during a loan spell from Luton, but will now leave along with fellow midfielders Mark Fotheringham, Malcolm Melvin and Adam Coombes.

Big Enoch Showunmi scored four goals for Notts last season but went out on loan to Plymouth in March, where he started two games and made five sub appearances, and he will also leave along with youngsters and fellow strikers Romello Nangle and Malachi Lavelle-Moore.

With Derry revealing his phone has been 'red hot' with players wanting to join the club next season, the gaps left by the ten players leaving will give him the chance to shape a squad with players he wants and who have the appreciation for Notts County he desires.

  10. Athletico madrid in the final of the champions league that for some people is a shock I got to say I'm not shocked I've been watching then in the La liga and they really have been proving them self holding their nerve they have the player and the management to do well this just proves money dose not make a team where is barca in the final Chelsea man city. I know teams have bad days and some time loose to teams they are not meant to on paper and people will see athletico as one of those teams that have got lucky. But i believe their league position helps and are top of their league for a reason not just lucky i think in the final they will give real madrid a fight and u never know thew may just win it .

  11. So our season is over and we can relax a little after completing the great escape but please don't be a stranger on our site now.Why not have a go at the Play off league that @Dripsey3 is organising. It's just a bit of fun and helps keep interest going. Then there's the World Cup in a few weeks time. You could also tell us all  about your holidays or day trips.(This is a community not just a football site and, in spite of the opinion of members of another site, there IS a lot of interest from members here,Take note @tonyhateley )

Transfers will also be a main subject for discussion as SD and managers of other clubs get busy during the summer. There will still be plenty for us chew over so come on everyone -KEEP POSTING.

Where's me sticks just in case anyone needs a prod.

  12. Contract decisions will be made from tomorrow onwards and the first week from the end of the old season is crucial to our club. This week will see some players departing as expected and others staying when we expected them to go.

    Should be an interesting week.

French team Clermont have appointed a female coach to help the team survive in Ligue 2.

What are you thoughts on women managers? Would you accept one at Notts?

If they know the game and can prove themselves to be good managers, I wouldn't see why not.  I wouldn't agree with trying to get female coaches to match that of the population, as there just aren't that many women who would be up for the job.

  14. Here we can list all our Sky Bet League One Final Standing Tables.

    post-1-0-59483400-1375126984_thumb.png

I've asked quite a few people to take part, I'll customize and tweak the image I use here and let each writer have their own post. I also encourage members to take part, you can simply add your final table below or you could pm me. I would happily add it to the main site! Let's get this going - YOU PIES!!

  15. I guess most of you would have missed the interview with Alan Sheehan after the Oldham match.

Colin asked him about his future and if he would be playing for Notts next season, he said that anyone would want to play for Derry but the club need to pay him and others better money if he was to stay, he said that he had taken a pay cut to stay at Notts but then they brought in new players who our now on loan for stupid money (a clear reference to Haynes) he said the players who wanted to play for the club and had helped keep them up were not rewarded enough.

That was the gist of the conversation and it didn't sound like he would be here next season, if you've got magpie player it should be on there, give it a listen.

  16. I uploaded some of the photos I took yesterday to Facebook. Hope you enjoy them and feel free to tag yourself or any of your friends/family if you see them

  17. Notts County continue their Continental Cup campaign as they host Bristol Academy Women on Sunday.

Last year's WSL runners up are the second visitors to Meadow Lane in a week after the Lady Pies overcame WSL2 side Aston Villa by five goals on Wednesday. They don't find themselves top of group 3 in the Continental Cup though, as Sunday's opponents Bristol put nine goals past Oxford United.

This won't deter the hosts though, who still remain unbeaten this season, with four wins and a draw from their first five games, including progressing to the FA Women's Cup Final. Bristol, however, have lost three of their five games so far this season, including two consecutive losses to Chelsea Ladies.

Their form has taken a subsequent upturn, with a 2-0 victory over new side Manchester City followed up by a 9-2 victory over Oxford on Thursday, a momentum they will hope to bring into Sunday's game.

  18. Welcome to the site @kieranc92.I hope you enjoy your time with us.

  19. I don't think the manager was as committed to winning the league this year as he has been in the past, his comments all season have been a bit strange to me.

I think his eggs were in the Champions League basket this year, and that he didn't really believe his team could be League Champions.

    Opinions?

  20. I'm going to Wolfsburg on Saturday to see if a miracle can occur. Gladbach have already qualified for the Europa League, but a win at Wolfsburg (unlikely) and a Leverkusen defeat at home by Werder Bremen would mean 4th place and the Champions League.

    One can but hope...

  21. I missed the arse end of the season, so my ratings may be a tad off, but here we go....

(I've only included players that have played a significant part in our season)

Bart - 7.5 - He's saved us so many times this season. He's not without his moments however, but is definitely a solid keeper at this level, and maybe even above.
    IN

Freeman - 5 - At times looked very good, at times looked rubbish. A little bit inconsistent for me, but no doubt a decent option at this level.

Undecided (Not our player, fee, wage demands, possibly better options)

Dumbuya - 5 - He's improved recently, he was quite decent from memory at the start of the season, but with such a poor side, his defending came into question, and well, he doesn't really have much defending ability.

    IN (Contracted - otherwise undecided)

Leacock - 2 - He's crap. I don't understand the excuses people make for him. He looked rubbish and/or disinterested. Captain? Captain of the water boys, at a push. There was no coincidence in our turn of form and him being dropped.

    OUT

Smith - 3 - Slightly better than Leacock. At least he looked like he wanted to put a shift in. Not good enough though.
    OUT

Hollis - 7.5 - For the part he's played in our turn of form, his goal-scoring, his ability to cope under a massive amount of pressure with no real experience apart from a few games here and there, he's been excellent. No nonsense and definitely not the finished article, but a potential to be a started or dependent 3rd choice CB next season.

    IN

Mullins - 7 - I've only seen him play CM and as posted above only seen Magpie Player highlights since his switch to CB. However, I gather he was very good in giving that experience that Hollis needs next to him and his ability to read play has been invaluable.

Undecided (Age, not our player, wage demands)

Sheehan - 8 - Always looked like he gave a flying fudge about the results even when we were getting battered every week (Most the season, really!). He is dependable, can get forward fairly well and his ability to slip into CB when needed was immense.

    IN

Roberts - 5 - Played his part, too old and slow for next season.
    OUT

JCR - 6.5 - When on fire, he's practically unplayable. However, when we were suffering a lot of the time he was so frustrating in beating and beating a man again. His crosses were at times woeful. How much of this poor form can we attribute to the team in general being rubbish? Not sure. However, when he's on form he is absolutely on form and very dangerous. With a better midfield and team as a whole, he is a very valuable player.

    IN

Fotheringham - 1 - People said 'we don't realise what he does for the team'. I think we saw exactly how little he gave our team when he was replaced by Thompson who was so much better.

    OUT

Thompson - 6.5 - As above, haven't seen a lot of him, but looked impressive on Magpie Player and didn't make too many mistakes when he was used at RB earlier in the season.

    IN

Boucaud - 2 - At times plays balls that are Premier League quality, the rest of the time you wouldn't even know he was on the pitch. Formed possibly one of the worst midfield pairings in the football league, and possibly even below.

    OUT

McGregor - 7 - Without his goals earlier in the season, there would have been no 'Great Escape' as we'd probably have been relegated in Feb.

    Undecided (Can't afford him)

Liddle - 6.5 - We have found his position in CM I think, he's a dependable player and we missed him largely throughout the season.

    IN

Grealish - 7 - See McGregor. Been pretty solid throughout the season, draws a lot of fouls and is the bit of skill we need on the wing.

    Undecided (Can't afford him)

Shwounmi - 5 - At times the scapegoat. He started the season really well, but this never lasted. He doesn't really win headers, or use his body much, and was lacking with the ball at his feet. Whoever wanted to pay money to sign him should see a mental health professional. I like big Enoch, however I don't think he's good enough.

    OUT

Haynes - 1 - Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish. Contributed absolutely nothing all season. Probably thought he was above the team, but in actual fact I would've stuck JCR as a target man than see him float about a football field. Summed his attitude up when he got sent off against Coventry, offered no apology to his team mates, no appeal to the decision, and practically sprinted to get a shower. Reports from one of my Hibs supporting mates has said that he's been equally as rubbish up there aswell.

    OUT

Spencer - 8 - What a God-send this boy has been. Holds the ball up well, wins things with his head, and even capable with his feet. Hopefully we can keep a hold of him

    IN

Murray - 6.5 - Looked quite good whenever we used him, let himself down a bit with a silly sending off at Peterborough, but we should be looking to keep him, without a doubt.

    IN

Coombes, Ball, Balmy ect.. not worthy of a rating - OUT

I've almost certainly missed some out, apologies for that, and the long post! :P

  22. I took many pictures today, I narrowed it down to 159.

There's a huge chance I have taken your picture, so please do have a look - like and share. You will be helping us, help. ;)Gallery Here..

    Thanks folks!

  23. I think he will do really well he has the experience with man city in the perm league not much but some and played some really good games for man city how ever the back four he currently has at lester  he may struggle if the foxes don't invest in more  defenders. A good season for him and i think he will be a perm goal keeper till he retires he has one of the greats as his father and mentor. Good luck kasper have a great season next year.

  25. Last Friday ,after collecting  Grannypie's tablets etc from the chemist,I called in our local Spar shop. As I approached the shop I noticed 2 local beat police officers leisurely crossing the main road and also heading towards Spars. As I walked into the shop behind the officers I noticed some workmen near the refrigerated shelving(which was empty) As I was waiting to be served one of the officers told an assistant that they'd received a report stating that two women had been preventing customers from entering the shop. The assistant explained that they had to close the shop temporarily whilst the work men changed over some refrigerated shelving and that she and another assistant had stood guard at the door while this was being done ,explaining to customers and apologising for the inconvenience..Apparantly someone had taken umbrage to them closing the shop and even though it was only for about 5 minutes this person had phoned the police and complained. I couldn't stop myself from laughing but what a waste of police time.
