Can't Notts go for an experienced goalkeeper for once?

We already have a promising young goalkeeper in Tiernan Brooks, who will be 21 in June.

We need a goalkeeper that has plenty of League 2 experience., preferably late 20s.

A goalkeeper who a good all rounder, can command his box, is a good distributer, good at dealing with crosses, & a good shot stopper.

No problem. Never heard of that saying.

@Piethagoram

Just because Stone didn't work out it Notts can still persevere in trying to get the type of goalkeeper that fits.

As far as Stone is concerned, he could be much better with defenders in front of him that can defend,

In defence of Stone & Slocombe our defence did expose them on many occasions.

It could turn out that with new defenders Slocombe & Brooks will look more comfortable.

Dear @Robbie, Slocombe is never comfortable with the ball at his feet. I still cant believe we gave him a contract after he froze for 10 minutes at Wembley

I’d guess he’s just one name on a long list, if it’s even true! No-one knows anything about our transfers these days. We’d been “linked” with a few players before our first signing but absolutely no-one on social media knew anything about Platt.

Weirdly that only game Sharman-Lowe played was the first game of last season (Bromley lost 2-0 away at Halifax) he was dropped and didn’t play another league game for them. Seems pretty harsh on a young keeper, I just watched the highlights from that game, he makes a bit of misjudgement for the first goal but nothing else really of note. So that probably destroyed his confidence.

No-one really knows what's happening with Brooks either, I wouldn’t be surprised if he got loaned out again. Last season he didn’t really play that many games, only 12 appearances for Rochdale and 4 for Cork.

Our goalkeeping recruitment has been pretty dire recently. The only notable exception being Patterson, but that's 2 1/2 years ago.

Stone: Not good enough.
Luca-Ashby Hammond: Didn't stand out against Stone and Slocombe.
Archie Mair: Penalty heroics aside, never broke into the team.
Jaros: Never impressed.
Luke Steele: He was dire.
Luke Pilling: Never up to standard.

That's a hit rate of 1 in 7. Given that Patterson came in as a short-term loan, even that had an air of fluke about how we found him...so you could say it was 0 in 6.

With that track record on keepers - another risky bet might not be the best option.

You missed out good organiser and communicator. Goalkeeper’s see danger before any other player on the pitch, a good organiser can cut out some of it before it’s too late.

I'm sceptical about rumours like this. Is the club genuinely interested or is his agent trying to drum up some bids?

I'd prefer a keeper in the twilight of his career, who's played higher, can organise the defence and give it composure. That doesn't mean a young keeper can't be our man, but as Super Dan says our success rate hasn't been brilliant in that area.

Why? Notts don't need to take  a young keeper on Loan.  Tiernan Brookes should be in the Squad next season. our head of Recruitment kept banging on about how Notts need to bring their own Talent through, and sending young Brookes out on Loan, only to have him replaced by an on loan Keeper of the same age is farcical, and isn't going to help Tiernan's development in any way, now is it?
