Should Stuart Maynard be allowed to stay or should he go?

  • Robbie changed the title to Stuart Maynard: Stay or Go?

I would hate to start off the next season with a couple of losses and having fans screaming for Maynard`s head. Let`s just face it. Overall, Maynard is not a fan favourite. He lacks the ability to create entusiasm. He lacks the much needed authority and aura. Sadly, I think this is only going one way. However, I do think the board decides to let him stay for now.

I've voted "don't know" I'll let the owners decide that one, whatever they decide I will back them.

FoBT. Yes, totally correct. NCFC belongs to The Brothers, we are supporters.

Some of the rubbish posted on so called supporter sites is a disgrace. 'Sack Maynard and the recruitment team ' was one comment on Its All Black and White earlier.

A chance of promotion lost through some wrong choices? Maybe. Too many injuries at the wrong time? Probably. Significant progress over the last 5 years? Totally. And absolutely  and undeniable down to The Brothers, their management recruitment and their policies.

Will we win every game next season by divine right as demanded by the keyboard warriors? Definitely not. However, further progress will be made.

Looking forward to an interesting summer. The Brothers and Maynard will reflect and learn. Shame some of the keyboard warriors can't 😒

To be fair, no one thinks we should win every game, that's just nonsense. This season was a golden opportunity to win promotion. We had the squad to match up against any side in the division. Too many times we were simply outmanaged or outcoached. The same tactics time and again. So if SM does stay, let's hope he'll learn to adapt and actually win games against the teams around us.

I've tried to be patient and give Maynard time.

However, the style of football he offers is horrendous.

On the motivation scale he's a Monday morning.

So on the one hand we’ve finished higher than I thought we would this season, I think when we did the pre-season predictions, I had us down to finish 8th or 9th. And purely on a statistical basis and from where we have finished we have improved on last season, from the outside looking in it would seem odd to sack a manager that finished in the play-offs. He did also lose his two assistant coaches in January and I was amazed we never replaced them, no idea as to why and I’d be interested to hear why the club though suddenly a two-man team could do the job of what was originally 4… And maybe it then sets a bad precedent, what happens if a new head coach comes in next season and doesn’t get us promoted would we have to sack him too?

Injuries haven’t helped but I don’t think we adapted well when we had to change the team. We played like Crowley and Jodi were still in the team when they were injured, expecting players without their skill-level to do what they could. At whilst we have been better at the back too many times this season I feel like we’ve struggled going forward. For me we are overly reliant on individual talent and we’ve been bailed out by Didzy on more than one occasion. It doesn’t help we aren’t that exciting to watch at the minute and our home form under Stuart is a big worry for me.

I think one of the biggest issues Stuart is facing is that he is always going to be judged against Luke Williams. When Neal Ardley left Ian Burchnall was able to bring the possession passed style and improved the quality of football. Then Luke went one further, we still had the quality but the end results were even better. For Stuart to come in and be even better was always going to be a challenge.

All that said, I would be leaning on the side of go. I would only vote stay if we revamp our coaching team. I do think we need someone who has actually played EFL football, as we currently have a coaching team that hasn’t played professional football. And we are desperately missing a very good attacking coach, because I think this is Stuart’s biggest weakness.

At various forums, the Reedtz bros always hint that any decision making is by looking at long term trends, not on knee jerk reactions.

On that basis SM has to go

There is no doubt that Stuart Maynard has improved the team defensively & finishing in the playoffs is progress.

But the question is, can Stuart push this team next season & challenge for automatic promotion? My answer to that is that I don't think he can.

First of all I don't see Stuart as a leader. He's a very likable guy & I'm sure he's well liked by the players & owners.

But I don't see any kind of urgency in him, & he always comes across to me as a bit placid. Another important thing is leadership on the pitch. There is no leadership.

Stuart appointed Palmer as Club Captain, but Matt is a lot like Stuart in many ways. We need a Captain on the field that is going to be a big presence when things aren't going well to lift everyone. I just don't think that is happening.

I also feel Stuart is too cautious in games. We've seen times when the team should have pushed on & won easily, but have been ahead then basically shut up shop & lost the lead.

His use of substitutes I question too. Too many times when substitutions were needed to change the course of a game it never happened.

Finally there is only a plan A, there is no plan B or C. When one particular shape & style is not working you have to try another one.

I think Stuart has taken Notts as far as he can & we need someone with league 2 experience & leadership qualities, IE, man management skills to get Notts to the next level in my opinion.
