Things you like and hate about football

I thought there was a discussion on this already, however I couldn't find one and in any case it's been a considerable length of time since, so it's probably best to re-start one.

Name the things you like and hate about football.

I'll start with "hate"...

I hate the word gaffer, it's naff. What's wrong with Manager? I wished we wouldn't refer to our managers as the "gaffer". Why? It sounds like someone who talks too much so you get out the gaffer tape to keep 'em quiet.

I hate, diving, time wasting (where it becomes obvious), players who fight, Forest, Millwall, Leeds (to name a few). I hate managers who can't accept defeat, also the one's whom are biased and disillusioned. Over pricing items and tickets, I hate reading about clubs which fleece it's fans, referees without a clue and lastly I hate how pitches get the blame for poor results.

I like...

Community spirit! In football this rules and at games like Preston (this season), Oldham (last) and many others it just adds to the football. I love seeing small teams doing well, Notss winning (which NCFC fan doesn't?), Good goals (especially our own). I liked playing (enough said), I like how Notts is a family club, going to watch football with @super_pie and my family when they can go, I like it when referees get the crowd singing, yet even better when you don't notice the referee at all, good saves, players who connect with their supporters.. The list continues!

What about you?

I love it when both Notts and Derby win and are both doing well.I hate it when the opposite happens-too many long faces.

i hate football fans who make stupid comments throughout the game

i like when people tell them to shut up.

I absolutely love when Notts and Derby win and them lot lose.

I dont like when them lot win or when the local media focuses on them, anything to do with them i hate.

Things I hate

The FA, Fifa, UEFA, the academy system, players agents, the cost of everything from tickets to replica shirts, most clubs are now shut off from the public completely, bell ends that just go to football to fight or get drunk / both normally,

Things I love

The banter, that feeling you get when the ref gets the game underway, the feeling of euphoria when you score and or win especially against a premiership club, loosing my voice and knowing you had fun doing it

Hate-Divers and any player that tries to con the ref.Shirt pullers. The 'cuddles' when a free kick is being taken.Managers that defend their players even when everyone else can see the obvious.Refs that are easily conned.

Like-Refs who aren't conned and punish the conners.Refs that you don't notice.Friendly opposition fans.

i hate when we have no football, like yesterday, roll on Tuesday night-COYP! I hate that the "big shots" in the Premier League take all the money not giving smaller clubs a chance. Greedy toads!

This could go on a while...

Dislikes;

The way the game has pandered to Sky and other institutions and rolled over to change kick off times to suit the media. Football matches should kick off at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, and the occasional evening kick off.

Violence, whilst this was far more evident in the not so distant past, there are still the sporadic instances of morons, knuckle draggers, cave dwellers (call them what you will) who attend a football match, or occasionally not attend the match, purely for the entertainment of having a fight ???

The transfer windows, all this has done IMO has inflated the price of a player for a few weeks and made the whole thing grossly unfair to clubs who do not have the millions and more to spend.

Agents, well the poor ones, we have had a thread on this before but the point still stands.

The Cost, this is inevitable, at least until somebody abolishes the entity that is the premier league, clubs need to make money and it has to come from either fans or sponsorship, the amounts available to lower leagues and this is due to the PL, is poor, why cant they level this up... i.e. "we have £720,000,000 from TV rights, therefore every club gets £1,000,000".

I will leave dislikes, although there are more and go on to likes;

Matchday, I get a buzz, I just love it, the emotions you go through in a couple of hours, blind optimism, panic, euphoria, despair, the roller coaster that is supporting your team.

Good opposition fans, and there are plenty of them around, where you can sit (or stand) and have a pint and a natter about each others clubs, who to watch for, how you think the game will be, and at around 20 mins to go, you can shake hands wish them good luck and go and enjoy the game, occasionally meeting up again afterwards to digest the afternoon...

Singing and atmosphere, this makes the whole thing even more exciting, is football still tribal, maybe not quite so, but when you have a good crowd or at ML when the kop are really in good form, the whole place lifts, the atmosphere changes...

Standing, I would like to be able to stand (while I still can), in certain areas, we have had this debate elsewhere too.

well, those are a few of mine... I ought to leave room for others to make some points I guess

Oh yeah Super Ram, you did, didn't you. Glad you won and still at the top of the Championship!

Just a few to start with ...

Hate:

The way the game has sold its soul to corporate sponsors and TV and in particular the fact that many fans are happy to go along with it.

The way many fans and commentators talk more about money than the sport itself. How much money is a cup run worth, how much money can be gained by winning promotion, etc.

High ticket prices and the fact that it often makes more financial sense to have high prices and a three-quarters-empty stadium.

Clubs moving out of their old homes and moving to an identikit Jones Windows Stadium right on the edge of town next to a Tescos and a Burger King, only reachable by car.

The fact that you can only really challenge for honours if your club is owned by a billionaire.

Milton Keynes Dons.

Love:

The way everyone in the ground pulls together when the game seriously gets going. This can be at the starting whistle or when there is a contentious refereeing decision.

The singing, chanting, and (in England) the spontaneity of the crowd. The banter between the home and away fans when there is a good away following.

A good pie.

The feeling of invincibility when you're winning and playing well.

Walking to the ground and seeing the black and white scarves. That's something I appreciate more as an exile.

I don't like a lot of things.

I love togetherness, spirit, good runs, watching Notts and seeing us do well.

I dislike: Referees who think the game is all about them.

I like: referees who you don't know are there because they let the game flow.

I dislike: fans who are grown men acting like children.

I like: Seeing children excitedly walking to the match in their black and white with their parents/grandparents.

I dislike: fans who boo ex players who they used to cheer.

I like: ex players who show their appreciation to the fans that used to cheer them.

I dislike: Managers whose after match comments make it sound like you were at a different game.

I like: Managers who tell it like it is, warts and all.

I dislike: players who after being tackled roll around on the ground as if they are drawing their last breath and then when they've got a player booked/sent off jump up like a spring chicken and carry on as if nothing happened.

I like: good honest players who give 100% every game and look exhausted at the end of the game.

Like

Players/Managers with tashes, Ian Rush, Big Sam, Notts County, Mike Edwards, Fans united, Good managers, common sense in football.

Hate

Players/Managers without tashes, John Barns, Stuart Pearce, Steve Bruce, ignorant fans, poor referees, preimership football, FIFA, UEFA, FA, poor pitches, rude footballers.

Dislike: Allardyce, his tash, everything else about him. Steve Bruce, Mick McCarthy & "Septic Bladder". Commentators like that loud mouthed moron Jonathan Pearce & the lunatic Fray, the idiotic pair Tyldesley & Townsend and John Motson - who has become a caricature of himself, thinks he is the only one who can see what is happening and treats the viewers like 4 year olds. People who think Harry Redknapp should have been England manager.

Like: Notts, the Scum losing & high calibre/top quality footballers - Pele, Cruyff, Gascoigne, Masson, Ageuro et al.

Dislike Sundays after a Saturday with results like yesterday'

Like looking forward to the next match( though, in my case, the result will proably be even worse)
