Notts are away at Grimsby tomorrow in the latest pre-season friendly.WillΒ  RM give @MuddyPatchPieΒ  her wish and field a more settled side that is closer to his idea of how Notts will line up when the season starts proper ? Grimsby beat the Rams 2 - 1Β  in our opening pre-season friendly so I'm very interested to see how this game goes. Β

I've been saying since the Rolls-Royce game we need to settle the squad down, yet the result means little.

Hopefully we will put on a convincing display and win, yet fitness and getting used to each other is more important. Unlike Kenny Burns, I do feel it takes time to see players to become naturally aware of each other. Footballers may be able to pass, yet others need to know what the other player is thinking and this generally comes with time.

I also want Notts to win to keep a fan quiet, since Grimsby got relegated he's piped down but he voiced strong comments against Notts during the Munto reign.

COYP!

For me, by this game we should be working on the first 11. I agree with the growing into the awareness idea. It's for that reason the first 11 need to play together to be ready. It'll be interesting to see if he reduces the amount of changes during the match after the Vale fiasco!

Went to see the Conference League playoff between Bristol Rovers and Grimsby Town at Wembley, although it was a game to forget quickly....Grimsby IMO were the better side, but they lost on penalties.....I think they will give Notts a hard, physical game but should be a good show on our we will perform in Div 4........ :)

I don't think you're far wrong thereΒ @nottsfever, that seems to be the first 11 we're working towards. The first part of pre-season is always about getting everyone fit and up to speed, only after that should you work out and try to bed in a first 11. Hopefully tomorrow's match is the start of that process.

We need to pass it, was it @Northants Pie who mentioned their long ball tactics?

Just hope we avoid any injuries, we have done well so far it would seem. It should be a good trip and game, lets get ourselves some goals. A clean sheet would be nice also!

Team news then:Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Loach, Amevor, Bennett, Hollis, Atkinson, A Trialist, Smith, Noble, Aborah, Swerts, Jenner.

Β

Subs: Sneidjers, De Silva, Campbell, Valencic, Spencer, Thompson, A Trialist

when you have one of the countries most talked about defenders (in his day) as a defensive coach... what is going wrong?

Guy Branston picking the defenders is the problem, you can't polish a turd can you...

Why we don't offer Shaun Barker a contract, play him alongside Taylor McKenzie and we would be rock solid. That Bennet lad sounds like a slimer version of Guy himself....

Disappointing result but in a way it could be good because some fans were getting carried away with talk of "walking this division" as champions, it won't be a stroll in the park, maybe the players were thinking this too. We have a long hard season ahead. Today was a reality check.

The defence does need looking at. It is worrying in regards to we only have 1 game left before we start properly so you would have hoped for a solid first 11, but I realise these are about fitness. Result as such was poor, but for me its about getting the first team playing together and working on that understanding.
