"Lets all do the Hughesy"

Now go easy on me as I am one to mainly read posts rather than start one of my own but for all those who like to keep up to date on news regarding old notts favourites, a friend and Robins fan at work told me last night that Lee Hughes may be joining Ilkeston Town FC. Now I'm not sure how much truth there may be in this and I know he's currently training with Port Vale but according to the Robins forums there may be some truth in this.

I was just curious really as to what peoples opinions are about this?. I for one think that this would be an incredible signing for a club like Ilkeston and would be fantastic to see hughesy back at a local club, even at his age he would be amazing at this level if not higher. I thoroughly enjoyed his time with us at Notts and have been following him every now and again as he moved from club to club..

Thanks guys  .

Hi @LadybrookPie, you don't have to worry about folk not going easy on you, every viewpoint is valid and respected.

I'd love to see Hughsey back in the area he was a great player for us and I agree it would be brilliant for Ilson to get him.

I saw someone who looked very much like him jogging along the cricket Trent the other week, perhaps it was him.

Proud to be a Notts County Supporter for over 60 years.

He wanted to finish his career with the Harriers though? I see this as being pointless for him, as he said he would be retiring.

I guess, this is the problem when you are a footballer. You never want to hang your boots up, plus being a player of his quality he could probably quite easily continue to find offers. It would be a good deal for Ilkeston, however they have a fair share of 'red dog' fans and I know this because of two people I know who play for them. He may be thinking of going down the coaching route, plus see's this as his opportunity.

Notts should get him back as a coach when he does retire.

Haha, you're not wrong about that as the Ilkeston fan at work who informed me is also a 'raving' Reds fan.
you're probably right.. he would make a fantastic coach, his ability as a poacher, to be in the right place at the right time is a skill he needs to pass down.

Many good times watching him at the lane and unfortunately, yet to find someone to replicate.

by the way.. Don't know if anyone is counting but i'm sure its 3 days till Stevenage.

I am sure he could still do a job within the upper non league pyramid, this will be a good coup for them.

When people ask what 'American Pie' is about, they're missing the point. The song isn't about the lines themselves - it's about what is between the lines. The song is about what isn't there.
