The friend system has been replaced by the new 'follow' method, it's pretty much still the case of add your friends but with the neat twist of gaining notifications when they post certain content.

Now, this can be annoying so I warn you.

When you click to follow someone via their profile, make sure select which content (if any) you would like to receive notification on. Believe me, this can get very annoying if you are constantly alerted that x y and z have all started twenty new posts or post x times. People who are used to Facebook will know exactly what I am getting at, so be sure to select the right settings and if at first you don't succeed doing this - simply click the green 'Following member' button.

In the screenshot I am attaching, you will see two tick boxes.

Until 'Receive notifications for all new content posted.'

It will then display the follow options, so you can get the notifications in which you would like - or simply deselect it if you are not bothered about receiving any at all.

Hopefully by sharing this, it will promote the feature and help avoid members receiving notifications which they are not interested in.

Thanks for this @notts-Joe, are the notifications via email or what?

Notifications are inline @tonyhateley - So, they are not e-mailed but land in your accounts notification box.

Edit - You can edit your notifications and choose e-mail if you wish. Link

@notts-joe Is there a way, as facebook does, that your phone can put a little notification sign in the task bar when there is something new you are following? I have no idea of the ins and outs so just see it as Facebook does it and surely you have as much money and Zuckerberg to invest in PoN!!!

You mean when you see (3) next the site title within the browser @hissingdwarf?

I think this exists, I would need to look into this.

I highly recommend following people on here, unless your being tipped off via e-mails and stalking people! Then I wouldn't bother. ;)

No, in all seriousness - it's good to promote useful features.
