EFL Trophy

A new trophy being trialed this season, I'm unsure if its instead of the jpt but its bonkers, 16 regional groups of 4...

This is apparently to help our home grown players by including academy teams and premiership U21 teams

Yep, that's the new format for the Paint Pot Trophy. Don't like the B teams, they cheapen an already very cheap competition and I fear they'll be the thin end of the wedge.

A group stage! Brilliant! So now we'll have to play at least 3 games in this stupid competition, or possibly even 6 if they do the home and away format. If you progress to the final, that's eight (or 11) games added to your fixture list. Genius. And the Football League (not EFL!!!) clubs agreed to this tripe?

If any fan of a L1 or L2 club actually attends one of theses games then IMO they're daft, it'd be like Turkeys voting for Christmas. If this "experiment" goes the way the PL & EFL want it to go, we'll be like Germany before the end of the decade & games like Gillingham v Stoke City B WILL BE THE NORM!!!!
Please avoid this competition like the plague!!!!

Indeed, I'd like to see a boycott against the B teams. This should not be allowed.

The trouble is that the big clubs are stockpiling young players to the extent that they're not getting enough game time. THAT is the problem. If young players can't get into their clubs' teams and need more competitive football, a few games against weakened teams in the Paint Pot Trophy is not the answer. They should be playing regularly at a lower level, either on a permanent basis or on season-long loans. That'll benefit the players and the lower divisions, unlike this nonsense. Time for some fan power.

It's funny how people forget when this was proposed, it didn't go down well.

I still think it's a shame that EPL academies will most likely win something designed to give lower tier clubs a chance of glory and a trip to Wembley. I don't care if the Premier League doesn't look after it's youth products - they should be able to do it without competing against the smaller clubs who see the JPT as a fun competition (some teams do take it seriously).

On the other hand, it's good for youngsters and clubs as some of them will attract fans to games - not a huge amount but still.

It would be awful to see it dominated by the academies.

I have the feeling it was help pave way for B teams coming into the league (like in Spain and other nations).

And although I am quite against the idea of B teams winning the cup, I do think there are ways that we could see top academies being tested but I do not think it should happen during a cup designed to give lower tier teams a chance of winning something. No denying the JPT requires re-branding but I agree with @BradtheMiller.

Don't agree with this at all it's a comp for bottom 2 divisions not youngsters of top teams to get competitive experience, send them out on loan or play them to develop them .

Like i said about the expansion of the league. This is purely down to the FA bowing to their puppet masters of the premier league.

Give it three yeats and i promise you all of the premier league teams will have b teams in every level APART from the premier league.

My love for Notts will never die but my dissolution at football in this country grows ever faster every day due to the premier league and the spineless tw@s that are our FA.

ALL clubs ar our level should have thought about the fans rather than their own personal standig with the scum bags that run the football in this country

You say 'spineless', I would add corrupt, venal, sexist, homophobic, racist, incompetent, immoral, stupid...

what happens to the young players that dont make it at the top level? they come down?? i dont see the problem with the jpt.

Why not let it happen organically then?

Why do they have to show so much ignominy to the teams that compete in the cup?

The name is being changed to the english football league cup, explain to me how that possibly can involve reserve / youth teams?

Thats like the euro championships involving south american teams as they dont have enough competitive games In that region.

Why dont they grow a pair and tell the premiership clubs they have to include 5 english players?

I'm against the whole idea of this and the B team rubbish I mean imagine if we missed out to promotion cause b team Chelsea West Ham were above us.

Take those out we get promotion for instance id be fuming.

Also read a comment somewhere online about what of West Ham b team played milwall that would be Intresting theyd soon scrap it then

I believe they already have a rule in place where each 'squad' must have 5 english/home grown players but many sign players specifically for that reason and never play them like Richard wright at man city.

Home grown players are never given a chance but that's not surprising given the highest placed English manager is Tony Pulis, why would a manager like Conte or pep give English players a chance if they have a bottomless pit of money they can spend

Maybe a real chance missed to revamp as a new Anglo Scottish Cup, which am sure, would have more attendance potential. How many Supporters of Premier League clubs will pay to watch their Academy team, probably nearer to zero.

If you learn something from every game, there shall come a point in time, when you should never lose... Jimmy Sirrel

Thanks for the link Brad, happily signed.  I've heard many calls to boycott games over the years, like "don't go against MK Dons", "don't go to show you hate Ray Trew", "don't go to prove this, that or the other".  None of them have ever appealed to me because if Notts are playing at Meadow Lane I try and be there.  I've probably only missed half a dozen home games in the last 5 years, all due to holiday.  But this is different, this is a sneaky way to do what they have wanted to do for a long time, abuse the lower leagues simply to further the Premiership.  We have far fewer supporters, but we have a lot of passion and pretty big gobs when we feel the need.  Time to make our voices heard.

What right do you have to tell me I'm wrong?  You're not my Granddaughter.

In a way, this gives us the chance to protest against B teams and concentrate a few minds. If only a couple of hundred people show up to watch us play a B team in this competition, our board will know where the fans stand on this.

On the other hand, however, if we draw Manchester United B and we get a big crowd by JPT standards, they'll feel vindicated. And let's remember that the bar is already set very low here. We need to get active in this case - a boycott of this competition is in the long-term interests of the club and football as a whole.

We are lucky in this country that even the smallest clubs bring about a hundred fans with them, and this contributes to the atmosphere. In Germany I've seen my teams play the B teams of the likes of Schalke, Mönchengladbach, Mainz, Leverkusen, Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt - and they didn't bring a single away fan between them. Bayern Munich's B team have a bit of a following, but even they only brought around 50 on a sunny August day. Ever experienced a league match with the away end completely empty? Where there's just silence when the opposition score? It's missing something. Aside from being an abject humiliation of every League One and Two team that takes part.

So, for this competition only, let's have an empty Meadow Lane and hope for a poorly attended final between two B teams. This needs to get scrapped pronto, in all of our interests.

Let's be very very clear about this. This competition is the opening of the door to B teams in the league. Any club that voted in favour is either stupid, can't see the long term picture or have been seduced by the hoped for revenue, which won't happen if no one attends games against the B sides.
