My memory of Peter Storrie is a little fuzzy, I do recall hearing about him and I seem to remember people saying he was pretty tight. I really don't remember but when his name crops up in conversations he doesn't seem that fondly remembered.

Trying to do some research I found this @Piethagoram https://www.standard.co.uk/news/scardino-and-the-notts-county-bottom-line-6334531.html

I have heard of false promises by Scardino, he took on the club from Derek Pavis right?

@Chris The Evening Standard article was I believe, written by Derek Pavis's lawyer ( stand to be corrected though)...Maybe it was a tactical article to try to get Albert's wife (Marjorie Scardino, head of Pearson / FT group, to fund her husband?

Peter Storrie had signed Tony Hackworth from Leeds for 150k and given him a 5 year contract. Further extravagant purchases included Caskey, Cas,..... The cash outflow on wages presumably could not be funded by Albert and Notts slipped into Administration

Jocky Scott was manager at the time and dont believe he had any real say in some of these transfers, save his son in law, Stuart Garden, a goalkeeper

@Piethagoram Thanks for providing that information, it rings a bell now. I believe this is when supporters had to club together to save money and people like Ian Richardson and his wife was collecting outside local supermarkets in order to save the club.

I don't fault him for trying but he gamed with the club and I think people like him should be barred from football.

You’ve got a brilliant memory @Piethagoram I remember Albert Scardino seemed a genuine bloke who was pretty naive about running a football club and he trusted Storrie who seems to leave clubs in financial trouble wherever he’s gone.

I can remember Albert Scardino coming to meet fans in the Jimmy Sirrell stand which housed home fans in those days, he came striding round running track and into the stand, the fans mobbed him and he threw his baseball cap in the air, I wonder if he got it back or has someone got a souvenir.

@Fan of Big Tone Yes, agree Albert was a "nice guy" but lacked the financial understanding of what maybe Storrie had saddled him with... There was a 5 year season ticket offer, I think, ...a clear warning sign that cash is short.

How would this even work?

Can most fans afford to pay something like that upfront? Madness.

I swear the same thing happens in The Simpsons when Monty Burns buys a basketball team. 🤣

Peter Storrie didn't know anything about football by the way he ran the club, he just thought big signings could pay for themselves.

Lol, that’s probably where he got the idea.

Dark days for what could have been a good revival for the club.

its all about how you spend the budget..Look at Accrington last season, 23rd in budget terms, yet promoted.... Maybe with Notts, yoo many high earners over the years but non achievers

Did the club announce how much these 5 year season tickets cost? Did the occasional poser get his monies worth? I have never heard of this.

I do know Peter Storrie well though.

@AmericanPie The club went into administration and believe the ticket became worthless. Recall how Glasgow Rangers used future season sales revenue to borrow against. Another warning sign of a slippery slope

I am surprised even in admin the club didn't honour those tickets, I suppose it makes sense to buy yearly in hindsight.

Shame it comes at the price of a fans loyalty mind.

Personally it doesn't matter how nice the owner is, if he allows someone to put the club in debt and potentially ruin them, he's just as bad.

It's the owners job to make sure people beneath him do things properly.
