Is the US ways of doing things taking over?

As the topic title says, is the US ways of doing things taking over?

American words sneaking into the English language, people referring to items in shops as "merchandise" and many other things. Thoughts?

When people ask what 'American Pie' is about, they're missing the point. The song isn't about the lines themselves - it's about what is between the lines. The song is about what isn't there.

@AmericanPie Can you offer a full apology on behalf of the american people that colour is spelt correctly and not as "color":frantics:

This is one of my pet hates, I’ve nothing against America or it’s people but I hate the way their language and way of life is creeping into our lives.

Shopping centres have become “malls”

Nappies have become “diapers”

We go to the “movies” instead of the pictures to watch a film.

Halloween is big business

We now have hundreds of rubbish TV channels instead of a few good ones

McDonalds and other fast food outlets started in America are causing the epidemic of obesity in this country

I could go on.

a lot of the crazes over there come over here and people tend to make it more annoying, i mean there is a man who walks around the city centre dressed as a ****ing cowboy. full on costume with fake toy guys by his side and i just find it very odd.

has anyone else seen him?

i think words are quite normal to be muddled, accents are becoming standardised.

its just annoying how some things take over which makes little sense.

If you've been to America you would know they have thousands more than us, a lot of better quality stations and channels.

The UK has rubbish channels because the people over them want the money instead of putting it into their programming. This isn't America's fault for me.

@TheSkipper no I’ve never been to the states I am judging their telly on the fact that most of the rubbish channels I’ve seen when flicking through the hundreds on VM seem to have originated in America.

I would love to go to the states though just for the experience.

It's all down to personal preference I suppose.

The internet has played a big part in "Americanism" making it's way over, anything popular or trending will be picked up by people. I prefer to say "buddy" rather than "mate", it just sounds more friendly. I do agree some things are silly, like how places are giving larger portions as they do in the States but three times the price here. There's always things which goes over the top.

@Fan of Big Tone you should, just choose a casual area like Florida and you will love it.

@TheSkipper It’s definitely on my “bucket list”

It doesn't bother me at all, I don't pay that much attention. TBH

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!

I know I’m a proper grump so feel free to ignore but another one that annoyed me is greeting people with “hey”, I’ve only just got used to the American import “Hi” what’s wrong with “Hello”?

Grumble, grumble, grumble, mutter, mutter.

Our American cousins are ignorant to many things I am afraid. ????
