  1. That really was an excellent away performance overall, Cheltenham were always going to change after half-time because we totally dominated them in the first half and had Tsaroulla’s header been centimetres to the left it clips the post and we go in 3-0 up. Iorpenda showed just how important mobility is for a midfielder, it was the right choice to start him alongside Roberston. He was like a gazelle just breezing past Cheltenham’s players at times. No idea how likely it is but I’d be desperate to get him in permanently at the end of the season. The oldest outfield players in the starting 11 last night were Tsaroulla and Bennetts, and they are only 26, everyone else was younger! We've got a core of really promising young players here now. The only blemish was the goal, I'd imagine with VAR it gets given as a foul but the ref gave us pretty much every 50-50 after so it was probably playing on his mind and that helped us. No idea why Ness heads it back into the danger area though, that was really poor from him and was probably his only real mistake of the night. Good to see us get back on track in such encouraging fashion though, we are looking really solid in the league right now.
  2. A massive win for Notts tonight against an inform team. This win takes Notts into a promotion place in League 2 for the first time this season. Notts had a brilliant first half & could have been double their actual lead at half time. Cheltenham came back into it in the 2nd half but Notts held out for that vital win. So who is your man of the match for Notts? I have chosen the starting eleven for you to make your choice from. Those players are, Roos, Macari, Ness Bedeau, Tsaroulla, Robertson, Iorpenda, Bennetts, Grant, Hall, Jatta.
  3. Notts County delivered a controlled away performance at The EV Charger Points Stadium, beating Cheltenham Town 2–1 to move back into the automatic promotion places. The Magpies came out with real intent, grabbing two goals before the break and keeping their heads as The Robins pushed to get back into it in the second half. From the first whistle, Notts found rhythm down both flanks. Keanan Bennetts and Nick Tsaroulla pushed high, while Scott Robertson and Tom Iorpenda kept the ball moving through midfield. A bright spell of corners brought early pressure. Lewis Macari headed over on seven minutes from a Bennetts cross after Sam Sherring conceded, and Robertson twice tested Joe Day from distance. The breakthrough arrived on 23 minutes from another set piece. After a Notts corner, Iorpenda kept the attack alive and slipped a neat ball into the box. Alassana Jatta reacted first and finished with his left foot into the bottom corner. It was a poacher’s goal and a fair reward for Notts’ front-foot start. Four minutes later the lead doubled. Tsaroulla, who had already won several free kicks in advanced areas, raided down the left and stood up a measured cross. Tyrese Hall attacked the space on the right side of the area and struck cleanly across Day into the same bottom-left corner. Notts almost had a third on 34 minutes when Tsaroulla rose to meet another Bennetts delivery, only to see his header come back off the right post. Cheltenham did rally just before the interval, but Kelle Roos and his defence blocked well, and the half closed with Notts two to the good after a composed, high-control display. The Robins made a forceful start to the second half. Crosses from Ryan Broom asked questions, and the hosts began to find second balls around the box. Roos made a key low stop from Jake Bickerstaff on 66 minutes, but from the follow-up phase Isaac Hutchinson kept his run alive and steered a right-footed finish from close range to cut the deficit. The stadium lifted, and Notts had to show a different side of their game. Martin Paterson’s team stayed organised. Lucas Ness and Jacob Bedeau won important headers, with Bedeau taking a booking for a robust challenge on 76 minutes after earlier cautions for Tsaroulla and Iorpenda. The bench helped steady things. Matthew Dennis replaced Conor Grant on 73 minutes to stretch the pitch, Maz Kouhyar came on for Bennetts on 83, and Oliver Norburn added know-how in the closing stages. Kouhyar soon created danger, swinging in a corner that Macari headed goalwards, only for a block to divert the effort. He then drove a shot just wide on 89 minutes after tidy hold-up play from Jatta. Cheltenham pushed late on, forcing corners and free kicks, but Notts managed the box well and cleared their lines when it mattered. The fourth official signalled three minutes of added time. Roos claimed high balls with authority, and the back line stayed compact. The whistle went at 2–1. The numbers underline the balance of the contest and Notts’ control for long spells. Possession finished 54.1% to 45.9% in Notts’ favour. Notts edged the stats with four shots on target to Cheltenham’s two and led 7–5 on corners. It was a gritty contest. Notts committed 11 fouls and picked up three yellow cards, while Cheltenham’s 12 fouls went unpunished. When it counted, Notts looked more dangerous going forward and stayed solid at the back under pressure. This was a strong, professional away win in League Two. The first half had fluency, width, and set-piece bite. The second half showed resilience, clear structure, and smart game management. Jatta’s instincts and Hall’s clean finish built the platform; Roos’ saves and the back line’s discipline protected it. At full time, with three hard-earned points secured at The EV Charger Points Stadium, Notts climbed back into the automatic places and sent the away end home happy. 4. I think after last night Iorpenda has moved himself back into a strong position in the pecking order but it's still Palmer and Robertson in the central midfield positions for me. I think we’ve got a good number of possibilities for the attacking midfield spots. Hall is the standout at the moment for me and whilst Grant may lack in finishing he makes up for it with great pressing so you get a nice balance with him and Hall. I agree about Luker and how unfortunate him getting injured was. I thought he was someone who would’ve grown into that attacking midfielder spot and by the end of the season could have been someone we were desperate to sign. I still think Jarvis could work in one the attacking midfielder roles because he’s very good technically, it’s just Martin really likes to see that desire to run non-stop and press and that probably doesn’t come naturally to him.
  5. I saw after the match Jatta and Hall being interviewed for Sky and I think Hall carried a trophy away. I’d have Jatta, Hall and Robertson as my top 3. Could make a case for all of them really, but I think Robbo just shaded it for me.
  6. the first half we could have been well away from just leading by 2-0 and although they came into more in the second half, i did not feel at any point like the result was not going to go our way. i thought the midfield was very solid, supporting attack and defence. straight from kick off we looked to get settled and that helped moving forward. nick tsaroulla played a very good role in the win, i thought he was class.

  8. What a superb performance in the first half. Firing on all cylinders with some very admirable football played. Two very good and well taken goals, we really should of been out of sight by half time with the other opportunities crafted by the team playing some totally committed football. A change of shape and a more willingness to move forward from our opponents made the second half more challenging, but even when they scored we didn't look like giving anything more away. We'll done Martin and the whole team. Bring on Harrogate for another footballing lesson. 🤠

  11. The first half was an excellent performance one of the best I’ve seen this season, we could easily have been 4-0 in the lead but I said in the matchday thread that Cheltenham would be a different side in the second half and so it proved, I did get nervous when they scored but Notts showed great resilience and held on for a great away win.

  13. Good win for Notts, sounded like we played really well.
  14. We varied it nicely. Bennetts and Tsaroulla gave us width early on, and the set-piece threat paid off, Jatta pounced, Hall finished smartly. Cheltenham had their spell after the break, but we stayed solid. Roos made a vital save, we handled the bookings, used the bench well, and saw it out with composure.
  15. Proper away display. Two first-half goals, then managed it well when they came on strong.
  16. It was great performance in the first half with lots of players standing out. Hall's goal was well taken, Jatta scored another poachers goal, Grant & Iorpenda were very good. The defensive unit of Ness, Macari & Bedeau were solid once again. Tsaroula did what he does best & I think Bennetts had his best game for Notts But my Man of the Match is going to go to Scott Robertson for his outstanding display
  17. Martin Paterson has chosen a few different midfielders for the first eleven this season, however it appears that he has settled for Palmer & Roberson as his first team picks in the centre of midfield, & has decided on an alternative of Iorpenda, Hall, or Grant in the attacking midfield positions. That leaves Norburn & Iorpenda as an alternative in the centre of midfield & Dennis, Iorpenda, Hall, Grant or even Jones & Jarvis who could all fill the AM positions. So far this season I think that barring any injuries, Palmer & Robertson have made the central midfield positions their own & they are my preferred picks. I think it is a little more difficult in the AM area. At the start of the season Jones was picked to play as an attacking midfielder but it was obvious that his best place was on the wings. Iorpenda started in CM but lately MP has been playing him further forward with Grant or Hall, then we have Dennis who has been unable to get so many starts since Jatta's return. & we have Jarvis who can play as an AM or Winger waiting in the wings... My preferred duo in the AM position at this time would be Grant & Iorpenda with Hall & Dennis very close. I think the AM positions are still up for grabs & we may even see some additional player recruited for that position in the Jan window. It is certainly going to be very fascinating in the weeks ahead to see how Martin Paterson works it all out. What are your Thoughts?
  18. Fantastic three points against an in form team. Was that Scott Robertson's best performance in a Notts shirt? I think it was right up there. Notts go into the promotion places in third place for the first time this season. I was worried when Palmer & Jones weren't playing tonight but the players that came in, Iorpenda & Bennetts did brilliantly especially in the first half. The performance in that first half was arguably the best half of football under Paterson.

  20. Tsaroulla excellent down the left. Unlucky with the header off the post.
  21. I'm much happier when Iorpenda takes one of the holding mid roles. Last night, Iorpenda's physicality and energy, for Palmer's on the ball playmaking seemed like a decent trade. He's an excellent option to have there, him and Robbo were an formidable combination physically, no fun for Cheltenham at all. It's not fair though to expect someone without a senior goal yet to do the business in the final third as an AM
  22. nick tsaroulla for me, he was brilliant and was unlucky not to score from his diving header. he also played a part in keeping us safe, with two very important challenges.

  33. a very enjoyable away game, fans were class! i thought they did well to make a game of it in the second half, i did not see their goal all that well due to being blocked but i thought despite it notts deserved the three points. i am going to enjoy the rest of my trip home now. 😀
  34. Credit to the back line for how they handled the late balls into the area. Ness and Bedeau took the first contacts and when the knockdowns fell, we had bodies around it. Roos’ decision-making was the difference between panic and control. A couple of high takes, one low claim, and we reset our shape. We also managed the bookings well. Bedeau takes one for a strong challenge, but after that we avoided cheap fouls near the box.
  35. Robbo for me, energetic & involved all night. He’s combative and creative, a very solid 99 mins from him. Ness & Bedeau didn’t do much wrong and Iorpenda had an excellent 1st half too. They were all in with a shout but Robbo just seemed more influential in both halves of the pitch and over the whole game fir my money. Hall was often clumsy on the ball but he scored and looked a bit sharper in the last 20 mins. Jatta was busy, scored but his 1st touch let him down too often.
  36. Quite a few good performances, Robertson, Hall, Bennett’s but my vote goes to Jatta who ran non stop for the team and scored a good goal. It’s 5 in 4 games now, excellent stuff, I hope we can keep him in January.
  37. Some great performances tonight. I thought Ness was excellent. Vindicated MP sticking with him over Platt. Jatta's formula of goal + great hold up play + defensive work would usually win MoM... But my vote's for Robertson. Thought he was immense tonight and played a great all-round game. Maybe his best game in a Notts shirt

  39. Yes @Robbie a promotion-winning AM duo might not be on the books at the moment. Hall had made one of the positions his own, but the drop off over the last 3 or 4 games has been alarming and could've opened things up again. Grant's star has been rising and Iorpenda's falling. Both are capable footballers but I've been saying all along that their output won't be what we need to sustain a promotion challenge over 46 games. MP can try Jones again, Jarvis, Dennis back there, Kouhyar, (I think Traore has shot it). It was a shame Luker got injured, he might have been part of the solution. Hopefully, MP and Montague will settle on AM has a big priority area for Jan. Two might be being greedy, but 1 first choice and let the likes of Hall and Grant compete for the other shirt might be good enough to grab one of the 4 slots.
  40. As others have said, I like Palmer and Robertson on thr defensive midfield positions. Is Palmer currently injured? Why has he been absent? I also think that Maz should be given more of an opportunity in an attacking midfield role. He always shows promise when he comes on, in whatever role. He always seems full of energy.
  41. Massive win for Notts on the road.Notts are in third place in League 2.
  42. Notts need to step it up. It was a terrible goal to concede. Notts have to become a two half team, not just a one half outfit Sub for Notts Dennis replaces Grant. 73 mins gone
  43. I think Cheltenham will try to keep things scrappy, but for us it would be good if 3-5 players started brightly and grew in confidence. We have several players who teams can struggle to mark, but it's the team performance that sometimes sets us back. Martin Paterson seems to be getting more out of the players right now, so I think that gives me confidence. It feels like we are capable of doing more; we just need to see it happen on the pitch. There are a few players who could do with a goal, so we are lucky enough to take the lead and control the game I do hope some of these players are able to create good chances on goal.
  44. Notts on a Monday night feels strange but that's the reality of it. I think it's roughly a 4 and half hour round trip? Not exactly a short trip on a school night. Anyway........a win would take us into the top 3. I'd be happy with a point but I think we'll sneak a win.
  45. Strands #617 “A case of the Mondays” 💡🔵💡🔵 🔵💡🔵🟡 🔵
  46. A win will take Notts into the top three. That would be awesome.
  47. I’d say that Dennis could do with a start, he’s impressed when he’s been in the starting XI, less so when used as a sub. Grant should be in for Hall too. This is another key game, with an opportunity to move up the table. Cheltenham have suddenly found form & goals. The “Cotterill effect” appears to be working. It will be a tough battle but we have the talent and attitude to get at least a point &, hopefully, all 3.
  48. Another tough game awaits Notts on Monday evening. Cheltenham Town are in good form & their new Manager, on his return to their club, Steve Cotterill, has them playing well. Before their two dissapointing defeats in the two Cup games, Notts were playing well with confidence. Hopefully turning their attention back to the league will give them a fresh focus to carry on their unbeaten run. If all the players are fit I would choose the same match squad that played Cambridge Utd. Roos, Macari, Ness, Bedeau, Tsaroulla, Palmer, Robertson, Jones, Hall, Dennis, Jatta. Subs, Grant, Iorpenda, Griffiths, Kouhyar, Aljofree, Norburn, Bennetts. I've put Dennis in the starting 11 instead of Grant & Ness replaces McDonald who may still be injured. Martin may still opt to put Dennis on the bench & play Grant or Iorpenda in the AM position. I would settle for a draw in this game. A 0:0 or 1:1 would do for me. A win would be a big bonus if Notts could achieve it.
