I thought George Abbott played very well, winning the ball back and getting involved. Defensively, I felt he was solid. However, his passing and purposeful movement going forward really earned my vote.15 points
-
I agree that the players mentioned had decent games, but I think we were much better defensively than we were in an attack yesterday. Slocombe wasn’t really tested but the back three were solid to be honest, Platt probably edges it for me cos he constantly won a lot of headers.9 points
-
Jarvis had a good 2nd half and Didzy tried his heart out but I thought Whittaker looked quick, dangerous and creative. Ref was a joke obviously.9 points
-
from start to finish i thought matt palmer was class, some of his passing was brilliant and more so the balls which cut through the crewe defence. he played a blinder which was pin point to david mcgoldrick who unfortunately was not able to control the ball, but had he done he would have been clean through to have a chance in the first 20 minutes against their keeper. i wished we had tested them more, filip marshall did not look the best but i really do feel palmer did a lot of positives yesterday.8 points

That's fair enough @allardyces tash I like how everyone sees the the match so differently, I seem to be in the minority though so maybe I'm wrong! But for me I thought Bedeau, from a defensive point was pretty good. Some of the fouls awarded against him were harsh, but he was part of a defence that limited Crewe to just the 4 shots yesterday.8 points
-
I would choose Will Jarvis, but I was tempted to vote for David McGoldrick, who was excellent at finding positions and transitioning to take shots. Jarvis appeared more committed to playing as part of the team. @menzinho Jacob Bedeau, I can't imagine anyone voting for him. I thought yesterday was his poorest performance for Notts. He made too many mistakes and fouls, not great, but slightly better than average overall.8 points
-
Charlie Whitaker and Will Jarvis both had some really good moments and helped create chances. Jarvis seemed a bit more driven to take chances or set them up for goal. David McGoldrick was outstanding, but Jarvis edges it for me.8 points

We know that David McGoldrick is not just a colossus on the pitch even though he's 37 years old, but he is big off the pitch for Notts too. David McGoldrick has scored 26 goals in 56 league games for Notts County Boss Stuart Maynard called veteran forward David McGoldrick "Superman" after the fit-again striker came off the bench to seal Tuesday's win at Grimsby Town. He is so influential & a great leader as well as being a fantastic role model for the other Notts players. The performance of the match squad go up when he's on the bench & field of play. It was there for all to see against Grimsby. His brilliance on the field at this level is unmatched too. His ability to score a goal out of nothing could be an important factor for Notts during the season run in I believe that Notts should offer him an extension if he wants it, maybe including a player coaching role, where he can study for his coaching certificates if he wanted it.8 points

A draw for Notts today & a clean sheet. Notts had a few chances but couldn't put them away. The eleven players that started the game for Notts are on the list for you to choose your PON Man of the Match today. The players are:- Slocombe, Gordon, Bedeau, Platt, Grant, Whittaker, McGoldrick, Palmer, Macari, Abbott, Jarvis. Please choose your man & let us know why you chose that person.7 points
-
I don't think David McGoldrick deserved Man of the Match. Even he seemed to disagree, shaking his head at the decision. Will Jarvis was quiet in the first half, almost unnoticeable, but much better in the second half. Charlie Whitaker was excellent until he was subbed off, which was a puzzling decision. Whitaker would be my pick for Man of the Match.7 points

A world-class boxer and a brilliant fighter in the ring, yet an even better businessman who earned millions more from his association with grills than he did from boxing. George Foreman was boxing royalty and will be deeply missed. Rest in peace.7 points
-
My shortlist for Man of the Match are Jacob Bedeau, Matty Platt, David McGoldrick, & Will Jarvis. Defensively Notts were sound & that was down to Jacob & Matty. Up front David McGoldrick was his usual self, working hard, & I believe Will Jarvis had his best match for Notts. On this occasion I'm going to go for Will Jarvis as my Man of the Match & I would like him to be selected on the left for the rest of the season.7 points
-
Jarvis for me. I like that he is willing to carry the ball to try to break through the defensive lines.7 points

I'm sorry to learn that George Foreman has died. Foreman is one of the legends in the boxing ring & he easily makes my top three heavyweight boxers of all time. He comes third on my list behind Ali, my number one, & Joe Frazier. The "Rumble in the Jungle" between Ali & Foreman in Kinshasa, Zaire now (D R Congo) was the fight of the Century, watched by 1 billion worldwide, including myself on October 1974. In those days Boxing was big & I mean big. Three former legends of the sport, Ali, Frazier & Foreman were all fighting each other for supremecy, & they all held the Heavyweight title at some point. Foreman beat Frazier in Jamaica in 1973, knocking down Heavyweight Champion Frazier six times to win in less than two rounds. Foreman was deemed unbeatable & was a massive favourite when he met Ali in Zaire. But Ali won the fight against the odds when he wore Foreman out via "rope a dope" & then knocked him out in the eighth round to regain the World Heavyweight Championship for the 2nd time. Foreman retired not long afterwards, but he came back 20 years later to regain the World title at the age of 45 in 1994. The World will miss George Foreman, a great fighter turned businessman & Pastor. RIP.7 points

I totally agree, I think he definitely deserves another contract he is one of our own and waived a good contract at Derby to come home to Notts, he’s done a fantastic job for us and is a real asset to the club whether he’s playing or not.7 points

The loss of the coaching staff isn’t great, argue amongst yourselves whether or not you rate them but now Stuart can only really lean on Joao Alves for advice and he's at the very early stages of his coaching career. I’m surprised we haven’t added another first team coach, it’s been over a month since both Saunders departed. Richard going is a blow but I can’t see how it directly affects the current on-field issues. Perhaps there’s been a slight downturn in morale, but I’ve no idea how close he was with the current players. Crowley going for me has been a blow, ok by all accounts some players weren’t overly impressed with him and if he stayed he’d have left for free in the summer. That said replacing a player of his quality in January is far from ideal, we’d have had to have paid over the odds for someone and we know the club doesn’t operate like that. We’ve taken a bit of a gamble with Whitaker who shows promise but I agree that right now he’s nowhere near the same level. I'm not always sure you need a captain to scream and shout to be honest, no-one has really had an issue with Palmer in that role. We do have a younger squad now though, take today for example Matt Palmer was oldest player in that starting line-up, maybe a tad more experience is needed. Also I feel we rely too much on individual performances, we suddenly seemed to get back on track when Crowley returned from injury. And now look at us with McGoldrick (and Jones) out, it’s like we are just waiting for them to produce moments of magic. Look at the assists for this season, right now both Palmer and Abbott are joint 1st on 4 (only because Crowley has now left) the rest of our attacking midfielders and wing-backs have got either 2 or 1 - that is shocking, especially when we are 35 games into the season. Same goes for goals, we rely too much on Jatta and McGoldrick, Jodi is still our 3rd top scorer and he hasn’t been fit for months!7 points

If you could have dinner with any current Notts County player, who would it be and why? i would be to anxious, but if i had to choose i would say kellan gordon because he seems to express a lot of understanding towards autism, disabilities etc. i would have said adam chicksen as he is very positive minded. What's your favourite Notts County chant or song? i had a wheelbarrow If you could relive any moment in Notts County history, what would it be and why? the chesterfield playoff final, it was a great experience and even though we were lucky to have won on penalties the game had everything a big match like a promotion game needed. very exciting and special. Do you think that if Notts were promoted this season, the club could improve enough to remain in League One? It’s a much tougher league, with teams that have far more quality. My concern is that most supporters may not be patient enough to see Notts rebuild and take the time needed to strengthen. With the performances we’re seeing now, I wonder if we should focus more on addressing the team’s form to better support our promotion hopes. I might be in the minority here, but while I hope for promotion, I also realise it would take a lot of work, and Notts might not be ready for it yet. I would prefer for the club to be well-prepared and capable of staying up. The current poor form might even reflect some doubts within the team itself.6 points

George Foreman’s impact on boxing and beyond is legendary. His early career was defined by sheer power, knocking out opponents left and right, but what stands out most is his reinvention. Many boxers fade into obscurity, but Foreman came back stronger, not just in the ring but in life. His second reign as champion was historic, proving that age is just a number. And then there’s his grill, who would have thought a boxer could dominate the kitchen too? He embraced life beyond boxing, which is something so many fighters struggle with. His kindness, faith, and wisdom made him more than just an athlete. Boxing has lost a true great, but his legacy will live on forever. Rest in Peace, George!6 points

I agree with @liampie in that I think Scott Lindsey is a decent coach for a League 2 team and that’s about it. I think MK got a bit blinded by how well Crawley played against them against in the play-offs. When you look at the big picture under Lindsey, they did well but they weren’t amazing, they lost 18 matches that season and only made it into the play-offs by a point. Again I’m amazed at how many League 2 clubs are so badly run, like devoid of basic thought and zero foresight. Why do you spend the whole window signing a load of his ex-Crawley players specifically for him and his way of playing only to then dump him? They aren’t short of money at MK now but the words chucking and drain come to mind.6 points

My question to PON members. Should Notts offer a contract extension to Didzy?5 points

Couldn't believe Charlie's 2nd goal....to hit the ball 1st time from DMs pass was brilliant....most players would have taken a touch.....most players would have put the ball into the stand....Charlie didn't....a brilliant strike...5 points

George Foreman’s life was remarkable, not just because of his boxing achievements but also because of his transformation as a person. He started as a tough, angry young man, but after his loss to Ali and his retirement, he became a preacher and mentor. His return to the ring in his 40s was unheard of at the time, yet he still managed to claim the heavyweight title. Then, he became a business icon with his grill, making more money than he ever did in boxing. He was proof that second chances can lead to something greater. A true legend in and out of the ring.5 points

George Foreman was one of the few boxers who truly changed their life for the better after retirement. A class act.5 points

I thought it would be interesting to see the answers to the following questions, but also to encourage opening up a way for the community to get to know each other a bit better with some personal questions in the second part. Being nearer to home will hopefully benefit him, though I do wonder how he’s adjusting to a new squad and the challenge of making new friends in this environment. Depression is tough, so my thoughts are with him, and I truly value what he accomplished during his time at Notts.5 points
-
i am a little annoyed by it, why do we keep recalling him and never giving junior morias a proper chance. i almost expect him to be sent out on loan in a few days time, just as we start to think he has a chance. imagine being morias with how notts have prevented him from playing, and basically signed a player to not actually play much at all. i really do hope he gets a chance. its very odd behaviour by notts.5 points
-
This is a surprise. I always wanted Junior to be given a chance, but it didn't seem that he was in Stuart's long term plans. Jatta will be on international duty soon, so this move must be to cover for him while he's away, & to give Notts more options other than Didzy & Traoré. I'm hoping that Junior does get an opportunity because just sitting on the bench is not what he wants I'm sure. I must say I'm a little concerned about Traore's fitness, & it doesn't seem as though Notts feel that Will Jarvis can do a job in the centre forward position.5 points
-
Yes would definitely offer him another contract due to what he brings on the pitch and the touches that can turn a game but also the experience and advice he can provide off the pitch. I think we lost a lot of that when both Jim O'brien and John Bostock left, I think the value of this to younger and inexperienced players is invaluable.5 points
-
I thought David McGoldrick was outstanding once again and delivered a strong performance throughout the game. If he hadn’t been required to do so much work leading up to some of his shots, I believe he could have placed them more accurately. Even if some feel he missed a few good chances, he deserves credit for creating those opportunities and performing well in all areas of the pitch.5 points
-
My top four shortlist for PON man of the match are :- Matty Platt. David McGoldrick. George Abbott. Will Jarvis. I'm going to go for George Abbott. He never seems to have a poor game for Notts.5 points
-
I would offer him another year, but at a much lower wage. If it is true that he is our highest earner, I would adjust the offer to a fair amount, taking into account his age and the likelihood that he may not play every match, even though he has proven his value this season. Next season could be different, depending on the league. However, if he stays on high wages, I would decline.5 points
-
It's a dissapointing defeat. Notts seem to be a first half team this season. Can be brilliant in the first half but fade in the second. Maynard is rigid in his substitutions too. He substitutes between the 60th & 70th minutes most of the time just about every match which I don't think has been very effective. And, The injuries are really starting to have their affect on the form now. Unless Didzy is on the bench, Notts just don't have the strength in the squad for somebody to come on & change a game match after match. I noticed that MK Dons got hammered again. Crowley made a big mistake leaving Notts & Notts should have kept hold of him. Also, I would have took Langstaff on loan till the end of the season, even if his wages were high. There were whispers that he was available for a loan out The January transfer window was very poor. I don't think the players we recruited have improved the team. Notts still have a chance for the automatics, but I think they need to concentrate on getting into the playoffs now. We have been very fortunate that teams around us have been losing, but that is not going to continue. If Notts don't t pick up their form, it's going to be a dissapointing end to a promising season.5 points

Lifetime contract. * Clause: Once he is physically no longer able to stand on at least one leg and/or requires assistance of Zimmer frame - enters coaching contract.5 points

So many questions need answering - Why haven't we replaced our assistant head coach? - Why haven't we replaced our first team coach - What is Didzy's actual injury and why was he a week away just before Fleetwood and now it's another week? - What is Sam Austin's actual injury and why is he out so long? - Why was Lewis Macari scheduled to be out till the end of March and came back 4 weeks earlier? Does this say something about the timeframes our medical staff are projecting? - Why have our performances not been convincing this season? Slow passing, slow intensity, inconsistent press, running with the ball into space, the will to run through brick walls for the club to win. - Why have we not re-invested the money we have made off of transfers?5 points
-
This could be taken the wrong way, which I would encourage people to hear me out before assuming I am picking at Matt Palmer. I just wonder if his consistency in the way he performs and goes about ensuring he doesn't put a foot wrong limits his ability to be a standout for the Man of the Match, at the cost of his creativity? Palmer is a superb midfielder and by far the best we have had in decades, he does go about the majority of his play quietly and has earned admiration for it. The amount of mistakes he makes is quite rare, and I think it is down to his approach to playing but I do wonder if the same method limits him from being seen as a regular Man of the Match candidate. What I am suggesting, is he's safe and at the cost of being more creative which could lead to mistakes, he repeats the same process within games that makes him consistent and the player we all admire but at what cost?5 points
-
This is a difficult one, Abbott had a great game and Tsaroulla and Grant made a difference so for me it’s between those three. A close call but I’m going for Grant who took his goal well and made a difference when he came on.5 points

Favourite Player Right Now: Jatta for me, he has a knack of getting on the end of a ball in the box and putting it away. Most Consistent Performer So Far: Matt Palmer first on the team sheet every match. Rising Star in the Squad [Not Including Loanees]:Charlie Whittaker Most Improved Player Recently: Charlie Whittaker Best Player in Each Position: Who is your all-time favourite Notts County player and why? Tony Hateley of course. If you could have dinner with any current Notts County player, who would it be and why? Matt Palmer, he’s been called an old fart by his team mates after reaching 30, I’d like him to meet a real old fart. What's your favourite Notts County chant or song? Wheelbarrow song, it’s so quirky. If you could relive any moment in Notts County history, what would it be and why? Tony Hateley’s return to Meadow Lane against Northampton the atmosphere was electric. What's the furthest you've travelled to watch a Notts County game? Well it’s a long time since I used to travel to Notts matches but I remember going to Exeter on the train in the early 70s probably.5 points

I'd be surprised if Cameron was allowed to play to be honest, I've no idea what the rules are but I can't see why we'd want to potentially cause ourselves a bit of a nightmare. Like @Fan of Big Tone says imagine if he plays, does well and even scores it'll have seriously backfired for us and he's technically our player so he should only be benefiting us really. I do think given the little run of games we've got coming up where we'll play 4 teams in the top 10 (Wimbledon, Grimsby, Chesterfield, Crewe) a win here is much needed as I'm fully prepared for us to drop points after it. I agree with @Robbie too I think it's time to give Traore a start here, I think him and Whitaker in behind Jatta will cause all sorts of problems for Barrow. Maybe a touch to early for Jodi and Macari to start though, but I'll be pleased if either of them do.5 points
-
Oh dear. My sympathy is limited all round. Scott Lindsay is now free to join an actual football club now, but nobody forced him to go there, did they? Here's hoping that the franchise continue to follow the Alan Hardy route to success.5 points
-
maybe he found something that worked well enough to get crawley town promotion once, but does not have the ability to do it the same? he might not be a bad coach, but he might not be good enough to sort mk dons into a team that wins games. they have good players, so it could be that he works best with less talented or ones who are more able to be encouraged his way? i dont think hes the best coach, but by far the worst. just an average league two manager imo.5 points
