  1. You see some fans (not on PoN of course) complaining that we haven't signed a striker proven at League One level. The fact is we have only once, under the current owners, signed a goalscorer who is proven at the level at which we are playing (Didzy). Even Langstaff was playing in the 6th tier when we signed him. The recruitment model dictates that we sign players primarily on an assessment of their potential a) to fit in and b) to improve their market value. Not every signing works out, but enough of them do and the net result has been success on and off the field. The signing of Aquila therefore raises the question: what is the potential that Montague and others have seen in this player? This is a genuinely interesting question and we might well never know the answer. If you look at the goalscoring stats then Aquila doesn't look great, so there must be something else. I live in Scotland and not all Dundee fans see him as having failed here. Some believe that Dundee failed him in that they failed to get the best out of him. He lost confidence and didn't regain it on loan at Harrogate. Paterson's job is to get that confidence back. If he succeeds then who knows what we'll all be saying in six months time...
  2. Stunning pictures of Aachen Cathedral, what a beautiful building @Piethagoram makes you appreciate the hard work and design of such a phenomenal place. Starting to cool off a little @Chris over the weekend and into next week, I know what you mean regarding the heat, I'm melting at the moment 🫠 For centuries, the Major Oak has stood at the heart of Sherwood Forest, a living bridge between the past and present. This ancient giant, with a canopy stretching nearly 92 feet and a trunk measuring 33 feet around, has always been more than a tree. It has been a landmark, a gathering place, and a keeper of stories. For around a thousand years, the Major Oak has weathered storms and droughts, wars, and kings and queens. It has endured the rise and fall of kingdoms and the slow, steady reshaping of the English landscape. Its story is deeply woven into folklore. Legend says that Robin Hood and his Merry Men once sheltered beneath its vast canopy, finding refuge among its roots and branches. Whether myth or memory, the tale has become inseparable from the tree itself, adding a sense of magic to its astonishing presence - a magic that has carried through generations and will continue to inspire for generations to come. Its fame only grew with time. In the 1800s, Major Hayman Rooke, a soldier and antiquarian, wrote about the oak with such admiration that the Major Oak name became etched in history. Since then, visitors from across the world have travelled to stand beneath its great branches, hoping to feel, if only for a moment, part of its extraordinary history. Now, as the Major Oak reaches the end of its remarkable life, it marks a profound moment in the story of Sherwood Forest. Though its leaves will no longer flourish the way it once did, the legacy that remains is vibrant. The tales it inspired, the wonder it sparked, and the generations it touched will continue to shape the forest and the people who walk it. Long live the Major Oak, in our hearts and minds.
  3. Was in the recruitment doc ✅️
  4. Though perhaps Notts get the paperwork muddled again(perhaps like the wrong Traore) , and we are signing Matt Baker from BBC Countryfile🤣
  5. As a Notts fan, I am not too worried by a 2-0 defeat to Viborg. Viborg are a strong Danish top-flight side and are further along in their pre-season preparations. The game was goalless at half-time before Dorian Junior scored twice in the second half. A few things I'd take from it: The result is secondary. Pre-season is about fitness, building partnerships and giving players minutes. The first half was encouraging. Holding a good Superliga team to 0-0 suggests we were well organised. The second half showed where work is needed. Fitness levels, concentration and squad depth often get exposed after the break in these games. Martin will probably be more interested in whether his style of play is taking shape than the scoreline itself. If the team creates chances and looks more cohesive with each friendly, that's a better sign than winning every pre-season match. Looking forward to Tuesday now.
  6. Meltdown on X about this signing was expected. A terrible welcome to another Notts signing who was brought in by Notts after they had done their research & the club think that he fits the Notts model under Paterson. If this guy can help other players around him to get possession which then leads to Notts getting plenty of goals, no matter where those goals come from, he should be given an opportunity to show what he can do, instead of being prejudged negatively.
  7. Good luck to him. We've had a little bit of success with young-ish permanent signings (Macari, Ness and Browne might turn out OK) and some flops (Jarvis). I've got a feeling Paterson will be good at bringing them on, because he's so demanding and clearly cares about his players, but also as someone who fought his way into men's football at a young age. Darius's parents are Moldovan apparenrlty, hence the un-Irish sounding name.
  8. It won’t be the arrival of a proven star, but it has the profile of a recruitment move that could pay off significantly if he develops as expected. Given his age, recent performances, and potential resale value, he looks like a smart addition rather than a gamble.
  9. On Monday, was the last day of the interrail ticket ( 15 travel days within 2 months). Wuppertal, Aachen Brussels London seemed straight forward enough. Arrived Wuppertal station, rail replacement bus service, only to Leverkusen but not to Duesseldorf. Over an hour on the bendy bus to Leverkusen and a train to Aachen was running 30 minutes late, so back on track. Aachen is such an underrated place, left luggage in automatic luggage lockers at the station (5 euros)...,Anyway, back to the station after 90 mins exploring, train to brussels was 20 minutes late...then was running 1h 20 mins late. Eurostar ticket from Brussels was for a fixed train, non flexible. Anyway, train eventually arrived having been diverted. Then on the journey German Railways decided to turn around their train at Brussels North rather than South station. Frantic dash to find next Brussels South train..and with help of ManInSeat61 website, which showed Eurostar leaving from platforms 1 and 2, made check in with just 5 minutes to spare! Meal on the Eurostar was good, pasta and courgette with some good wine.

  11. Good morning it’s the start of another week, a little cloudy here for a change and cooler which is nice. I was hoping for some rain the gardens could certainly do with it when I walk on our lawn it crunches! There are several wild fires around the country too a friend lives in Tintwistle in Derbyshire and there are three fires surrounding his village. We really could do with some sustained rainfall.
  12. I think the Newport supporter quite likes him 🤔
  13. He seems to be more our cup of tea than Flint, hope it comes off. Either way, I'm glad he's kicked on after leaving Blue Peter.
  14. 23, still room to improve and fits what we need in cover in the centre back positions. Fingers crossed, it's not a false rumour and is true. I know the account is usually crediable but there's always a chance something can change or it's just wrong. I am not saying it is, because I think it would be a good signing.
  15. Thank you @Piethagoram for the pictures once again, I have always wondered what the way posts indicated. This marker is on the Camino de Santiago route that starts in Hirtshals, Denmark. Hirtshals is one of the northern starting points for pilgrims travelling through Denmark and Germany before eventually reaching Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. It is right what is said, you learn something new every day and that is a bonus. Thank you also @Fan of Big Tone for your contribution to photo of the Year. Mother and cygnets enjoying calm waters, how wonderful nature is at times. So sad the father didn't make it, I'm sure he would be proud of them all. Rather a dull start to the day today and much cooler, I have completed my chores down at the stables and had a lovely walk back home. Just bitting and bobbing for me today, might run the mower over the grass (what's left of it) and tidy everywhere up, then prepare for the game this evening 🤔 Come on England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
  16. He's worth more than that. I think Jatta will only leave if his head is turned by big wages. Worrying about something that hasn't happened? Anyway the guy needs to have some faith. The club found Wootton, Langstaff and Jatta, all sensationally good calls.
  17. Sorry @Fan of Big Tone there is little chance of rain for the foreseeable future. On the fire front, it's an absolute nightmare for Firefighters at the moment as irresponsible people are not thinking when discarding cigarette butt's or portable bar b ques and glass bottles these items are easily disposed of if a small amount of thought is used. These needless fires use up resources and leave very little if a serious incident occurs, so please THINK 🤔 Well done again @Chris for your endless hard work and enthusiasm, you are a shining example to us all. I hope you can keep Super under control as we don't want to see Forest fans running scared 😂
  18. I watched the free streaming on my iPad I spent the first 20 minutes thinking Notts were the team in green. 🤣 There was no commentary so it wasn’t brilliant watching on a small screen but from what I saw Notts were decent in the first half but faded in the second half our new striker Aque…something had a good header well saved by their keeper. I guess it was a good workout for the team but it looked like we missed the likes of Jatta and Jones, well done to @Piethagoram and the fans who travelled for what was basically a practice match, that’s real dedication. 👏 It ended 2-0 to Viborg.
  19. I look at it this way Positives At 25, he's entering what should be his prime years. He's a big, physical striker who gives the team a different option to play into. He presses, competes well aerially, and can bring others into the game. If Martin Paterson wants more variety in attack in League One, he fits that profile. Concerns His recent goalscoring record is modest. Last season he scored just one goal across his time with Dundee and on loan at Harrogate Town. He isn't the sort of signing that immediately makes you think "20-goal striker." My feeling is that this is a low-risk squad signing rather than the main striker Notts will rely on. If he rediscovers the form he showed at Barrow, he could become a useful asset, but if Notts are aiming to stay comfortably in League One, I'd still expect them to bring in another forward with a stronger scoring record.
  20. This signing has Martin Paterson's fingerprints all over it. He a tall, strong, physical centre forward who can hold the ball up and bring other players into play. He appears to be a similar forward to Lee Ndlovu. I think his signature is significant because demonstrates that the Notts style of play under Paterson is different to what we saw under Williams & Maynard.
  21. Ah, according to Viborg FF it's being shown on their official YouTube channel. Great day of football coming up on Saturday then! I checked the Randers website but couldn't find any mention of a stream. We don't play them until the week after though.
  22. This Saturday's game is being streamed live by the home club...details on their website...
  23. I have to agree with you @Robbie something special happened last night. The whole England team, Manager and Staff deserve the highest accolade we can bestow upon them. They have done our country proud 👏 Can't believe @Fan of Big Tone you didn't watch it live and absolutely soak up the atmosphere with us all who did. Mrs P and myself, plus number 2 Son revelled in the battle that became England's last stand with 10 men, and did we stand proud as the minutes passed by, we sure did, even winning a penalty which made us comfortable for a few minutes more. Then their farce of a penalty appeal and reward made it squeaky bum time, supposedly for 11 minutes over the 90. The referee then even went over the time (on purpose I think) to keep the tension. As it is said everything comes to those who wait. ⚽️🥳🤠🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
  24. I watched it this morning having managed to avoid seeing the score, I’m glad I didn’t stay up after it was delayed by an hour. I thought England did amazingly well in the altitude and oppressive heat, against a good Mexico side playing at home with a huge partisan crowd behind them, then going down to 10 men, everything seemed to be going against them but they came through against all odds to secure a historic victory. Everyone played there part in the win, well done to all concerned.
  25. I think he's a no risk signing for Notts. He has potential & there is plenty of room for improvement. If he can't get into the first team squad, he will be loaned out possibly to a League 2 club.
  26. Correct, I guess that's one of the reasons as to why we've signed him. 8 goals from midfield in 33 matches is very promising for someone so young, there's definitely potential there, lets hope he fulfils with us!
  27. Describes himself how Frank Vincent described himself - so could be a similar player... Love the name. I'd have given more chance to hearing a single 'Lip shook' from a pop star called Darius, than to land a midfielder of the same name. Teams always need players who put in the yards, so welcome and good luck to him,
  28. Sounds like an interesting player to develop but not necessarily one for the first 11 straight away. Let's see how he does and cross our fingers for him. Also, since he's under 21 I think he doesn't count towards the squad limit. I'll call him Daz!
  29. Classic Brothers recruitment. Only to be applauded yet again. It's better than the very obvious nickname 😩
  30. Echoed... The commitment is amazing, but its the skill that amazes me most. I can only dream
  31. It all looks great @Chris i honestly don’t know how you find the time to do all this, well done,👏
  32. What an amazing start If we'd have jumped straight up to the Championship Leicester (H) might've been our biggest game And even for neutrals, this fixture might be the pick of the entire EFL Can't wait, balmy summer's day, bright sunshine, maybe nigh on 20,000 at Meadow Lane. Way to start our average Att. tally!
  33. What a fantastic first fixture for Notts against a big local rival. It's going to be televised with a 12:30 start. It's sure to be a capacity crowd at the Lane for this one. The next fixture is Luton Town away, then another big match at the Lane against Burton on the 29th Aug. I think it's a good time to meet Leicester before they have really got going. A positive result here for Notts would get the season off to the best of starts. Can't wait.
  34. @chris you have hit the proverbial nail on the head, what a two faced liar. Honesty is a concept he obviously doesn't understand the meaning of, all he sees is pound note signs. Such a shame he has blotted his copybook. Let's hope he is either on the bench, unavailable to play or we just hammer them anyway 😉 🤑Nice. Come on you Pies. 🤠👍⚽️
  35. Belated birthday wishes @Fan of Big Tone glad you had a great day. Nice pics from Palma Majorca especially the Cathedralof Santa Maria of Palma, commonly known as La Seu, a massive, Gothic Roman Catholic Church. Have a great day in Cadiz both. I'm afraid all I have is a lovely picture of the fruits of my morning efforts to feed and clear the paddock of poo. You can also witness the shadow of someone who is trying to rid himself of said shadow. Have a great day one and all, and don't forget the lotion if you are going out. 🥵😎🤠
  36. @Fan of Big Tone i am glad that you were able to hear the Sea Organ, and nice and loud thanks to the boat. What a beautiful picture, sailing off into the sunset, you both should be at the front end doing the Titanic pose from the film 🫶 Today i have broken the handle of the fork. Went to the local DIY store and asked if they sold fork handles, and this is what what i was given🕯🕯🕯🕯 bring back memories anyone??
  37. I have made my feelings on David McGoldrick perfectly clear. He speaks what people want to hear and doesn't mean a single word of it. There's nothing wrong with wanting to protect your career, or by extending it. Yet words of wanting to retire here, being a Notts fan and other things just prove at the end of the day he follows the 'gold' in McGoldrick. There's probably plenty of ex-Notts players who consider themselves a fan who have moved to Mansfield, I have no disappointment with the likes of Neal Bishop. Just one player, for example, but for someone like Didzy. I find it annoying how our fans will still continue to worship him but call players like Jorge Grant, or George Abbott. They signed for Mansfield to attempt to enhahnce their careers, Abbott probably had little choice but signing for Mansfield won't bring a single critism for the likes of him. It's time we forget him again, as I say, If he really wanted to come back to Notts to help then he would have done it sooner than he did and if it wasn't about money, he would have stayed and been a team player. I'm personally glad he left, because it meant we didn't have to rely on him and as for him coming back, that door shut when he left to join Barnsley.
  38. There's not doubting McGoldrick in terms of having that quality to make things happen in the final third but as others have said you have to manage his minutes properly and spend a large chunk of the budget to get him. And we’d possibly have to alter the way we play because he’s not really suited to the off the ball pressing Martin Paterson wants. He’ll also be 39 later this year and you just never know when the legs will go. I can remember the likes of Alan Smith, Gary Jones and Hayden Mullins all looking pretty good at the start of the season but by the end they could barely run. I probably wouldn’t have said no to his return but I’m not gutted, well as long has he doesn’t score against us next season!
  39. That’s a good point @Piethagoram that would be a bad thing, I much prefer British made programmes than some of the American rubbish I’ve seen on other programmes.
  40. After watching the France v Morocco match I can't see any team left in the competition that will beat them. I hope I'm wrong for England's sake but France seem to have all the answers at the moment.
  41. Hope Super is feeling better now We got to Alfreton. My youngest got quite a haul of photos and autographs. What a good set of players/people we have at Notts County! We're off on our travels now, mostly offline, so probably won't get the chance to post for a month or so... Wishing all a lovely summer
  42. I want to start this off by apologising for the recent downtime the site has experienced. Whilst I know members will understand, my goal is always to provide clear communication and part of the issue has been a learning curve because I had made a few mistakes with work I am doing on the dev site. Usually, this doesn't and shouldn't cause issues with the live site but one of my mistakes caused an inifity loop which really took it out of the server. So, why goodbye? No, my intention wasn't to clickbait those that care into thinking the worst. It's me announcing the brand new home page! But wait, there's more! (There will be more on this as I am rolling out many improvements to the Pride of Nottingham website). If you haven't yet seen the new design of the home page: ^ click the button above, before you do that continue reading. In the spoiler below I have screen grabbed the home page so you don't have to leave this page, and you can leave a comment below. Sneaky, I know, but please do leave a comment. Tell me off for the down time, or simply let me know what you think about this announcement. Don't click here, there's nothing to see! In addition to this, improvements have been made to our next match feature. It's had an overhaul in design, and several major improvements. When the new season begins, there will also be a button to vote for the Pride of Nottingham Man of the Match, so be sure to get your votes in! If you visit via a mobile, this won't excite you on bit but I have made improvements to the navigation by extending it. You may have noticed the colour shadows around comments? Well, the original poster of a topic gets one and then so does team members. This isn't to make any standout as being more important, it's just to help identify people based on their role and involvement in the discussion. I have also implemented a way whereby members can choose their theme by simply clicking a link, in the case below it will be a screenshot with the link attached. I highly encourage members to choose what they prefer; all have a light and dark mode. Some may have noticed I haven't been as active; this is due to spending the majority of my time coding. It's rather addictive, but I wanted to make headway with changes before the start of the season and things are going very well. If you make it through reading this, I am pleased to inform you we now have a history section and I have put a lot of thought in not only crediting sources but also making it standout as being different. The following features are coming very, very soon! More quizzes, plus a few word based challenge games will be added! The featured page will be returning as 'Our Pride' a digital content fan zine which breaks the best bits of the site up for you to digest and share! (please do spread the good word) - community analytics (subscribers and team members only, sorry!), community activity, groundhoppers app, monthly awards, a join the community page to encourage involvement/regisrations and more. Thank you for all your effort, and contributions! Regards, The Gaffer, Chris
  43. @Chris if your help isn’t appreciated I would ditch them and concentrate where you ARE appreciated …… here. I hope you managed a walk with @super_ram its not been too hot and there’s been a nice breeze. We’ve been concentrating on unpacking, doing a bit of shopping and getting the washing done, the lawn will have to wait until tomorrow as our son and DIL came round for a chat so we dropped everything as we haven’t seen them for three weeks, although we have been sending them blogs of our travels.
  44. not much to say, work is going well but its not enjoyable with the heatwave. it is nice to walk when the wind is there, but you have to keep out of the direct sun and in shade. why cant we just get warm days that are not extreme and rain that does not feel like you are in singing in the rain. its never in the middle.
  45. Following the money again. He was always going to follow the money, but it's a bit sad after all the talk of us being his boyhood club and wanting to play for us for free. If he'd just been honest and said football was just a job for him I'd have a lot more respect for him now. It's moot now, but I'd have had mixed feelings about him signing for us again. He's still got it and scored 15 goals in L1 last season. But he was rumoured to be on 7k a week at Barnsley - we need to strengthen in a number of positions and I wouldn't feel comfortable splashing so much cash on one player.
