  1. McGoldrick’s ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations is truly impressive. Instead of allowing missed opportunities to affect his confidence, he maintains a positive attitude and continues to focus on finding the back of the net. This level of mental resilience is admirable and sets a great example for others to follow.
  2. The comment about Tobi Adebayo-Rowling being charged up on the bus on the way to games is a wonderful example of the fantastic team spirit that exists within the group. This is the kind of team that younger fans will undoubtedly want to support! It’s incredibly positive to see that the squad is dedicated to intense training and maintaining a high level of focus in their match preparation, while also being able to unwind and share some laughs together.
  3. Alfreton were terrible last season, but I think this time around they will be more structured and able to give Notts a better game. It wouldn’t surprise me if they try to park the bus and counter when Notts don’t have the ball. This time around, it should be a better standard of friendly, as they have made some good signings and now have a less aged squad.
  4. Each friendly has given Notts a different type of test, which, from the manager’s perspective, reveals a lot about his squad. Now that Luke Williams is starting to settle the squad down, having a difficult game will give him food for thought. The team will provide instructions and feedback to the players when they rewatch the footage after the game. I don’t see it as a problem that Notts dominated but only scored once; credit to Boston for holding on and proving to be difficult.
  5. It will be an excellent opportunity for the club to have a good run out against Boston United, who have a lovely new stadium. This match will provide a chance to see how the club compares against a team with a few familiar faces. I believe that Boston will give Notts the most significant challenge out of all the away pre-season friendlies. However, it’s important to remember that this is just an insight for the coaching team. I am hoping that Boston will try to park the bus, so we can finally see if we are creative enough to break down these types of teams without losing our composure. As for the squad, I am sure that Luke Williams has his team in mind. I agree with those who have expressed their desire for the youngsters to get a chance. I suspect that they will until the start of the season.
  6. Solid advice, especially for many of the younger people in this world now.
  7. Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham @BeestonPie. Join in if you get chance.
  8. Concise yet deep insight into what's going on with the players currently. The transparency Williams provides, especially regarding player injuries, is commendable. The minor injuries don’t seem to be a cause for alarm since they’re part and parcel of pre-season training. I appreciate the careful management of player welfare shown here, there's a long season ahead and it's important that everyone’s up for it.
  9. I am less bothered about the friendlies from here on, so I hope the plan is to involve the youngsters again. Give the first team the second half, field the youngsters and take off those who struggle in favour of the main players. Give the lads some more time, as they have done well.
  10. Excellent article, @Simon Clark! Tranmere does indeed seem like a tantalising away day. A good old-fashioned ground with a great atmosphere. The beer tent gathering sounds like a perfect place to dissect the game and hopefully toast our boys' triumph! Also, I love how you’ve recognised the efforts of the volunteers and workers at Salford. Despite the negative press, it’s touching to hear about the folks who strengthen the spirit of local football.
  11. The defender did well against Forest. Hopefully, he’ll get more game time in friendlies to show his abilities.
  12. "The applause from the fans" truly resonated with me too. It shows the spirit and bond of the Nottingham community. The fans, with their support and passion are indeed a crucial part of the club. The ability to respectfully acknowledge each other's efforts despite rivalry adds to both teams' charm and of course the saddening loss our city experienced.
  13. In all these years of listening to Charlie commentate Notts County games, I’ve come to appreciate the depth of his understanding of football and his connection with the club. It's not often that one finds a narrator who has such a bond with the fans. He filled the shoes of Colin Slater remarkably well, which is no easy feat. Charlie, you may be leaving the commentator's box, but you will always be 'one of our own'!
  14. Tobi seems to be one of those people who live life to the fullest and are always happy. It’s infectious, and I must admit that I would have written him off if it weren’t for his performance against Forest. He fit well into the system, and if we can consistently get that level of performance from him while carefully managing his injury risk, I believe he will go on to do great things for Notts.
  15. I wouldn’t dwell on the minor mistake; the squad put in a good effort and gave a good account of themselves. I have no regrets about going; I think the young lads did well and will hopefully flourish with more experience. Fair play to Luke Williams for acknowledging that he distracted Kyle Cameron, but it is what it is. There’s no need to dwell on it.
  16. Ian Richardson is a true gentleman. He devoted a lot of his time to the club and its fans. His leadership skills on the pitch were unparalleled. His relationship with the 1998 squad and Sam Allardyce played a significant role in Notts’ push for that record-breaking season. I cannot praise Ian enough for his efforts. As far as I know, everyone loved him, and that’s how it should be. It would be wonderful to see him back at the Lane one day. I remember his uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time. His passion for our club seemed immense and personal.
  17. Whatever happens, I won’t be getting away. I would also like to see Notts give a good account of themselves. Last season the players did well, even with all of Forest’s signings Notts should be more than capable of giving them a game. They might win, but it would be negative to lose in the manner we did against Stoke City. This doesn’t mean I condone the abuse some players receive, but what it does mean is this friendly has higher stakes and the pride warrants the very best the players can give.
  18. I wish Southend well. They got on my nerves when we played them, but I wish their fans all the best. It’s those that suffer, but I hope they cut out the annoying chants when they play other teams. It’s not effective. If they want to achieve something similar, they should aim for what Coventry City fans did. That was more vocal and to the point.
  19. With this level of strategic additions, it's clear that Notts County are really investing in their success this season. The balance between experience and fresh talent is key, and it seems like the team has managed to strike that balance well. Particularly noteworthy is Dan Crowley's addition as an attacking midfielder. Given his experience with the Arsenal academy, he would likely be a star performer. If the team takes advantage of his skills, I think they could really pose a serious challenge for the League Two title. The key word in my thoughts is "could", we need the results to go our way and remain optimistic as a fan base.
  20. It’s good to see your username again, @Super_Danny_Allsopp. Welcome back to the community; it’s good to see you back.
  21. From a defensive standpoint, it was a good game with much for Luke Williams to take away. Stoke City played well, but Notts made it easier for them and the defence let Aidan Stone down. He seems like a capable keeper, but he can only save what’s in front of him. If the defence can’t prevent one-on-ones, then Williams needs to reconsider. Had we started with our best options, things might have been different. So it’s not all bad. In my opinion, throwing some of the youngsters into a friendly like this can be detrimental as they may not be ready. The PA system sounded clear and was fine for speech, but for some reason, music was set to the same volume, which was deafening. The volume needs adjusting for music as I left with a headache from the loudness before the game and at half-time. It was like being right next to the speakers at a rock concert.
  22. I am happy for Dan Leivers and the team. This is a good thing for the academy and its future players. Just imagine all the potential that will be unlocked with the increased funding and the crucial positions that can now be filled.
  23. Wise words from Luke Williams. It’s going to be a long season, and at least this time around we are prepared to make the players work for their places in the squad. It’s good that we have all four areas of the pitch covered, although there is a slight belief that we may require someone to rival Adam Chicksen and perhaps another quicker centre-back.
  24. You can't help but feel a sense of euphoria over Notts County's triumphant return to the Football League. The team's determination and the support of the fans led to the end of their four-year absence from tier football. This is more than just a welcome return; it's a metaphorical rebirth.
  25. It should be a good run-out for both teams. What I look forward to seeing in friendlies is how the players link and communicate with each other. It will also be interesting to see if Luke Williams mixes up the tactics and formation, or if he sticks with the 5-4-1 formation. And who will be the main striker? It’s got to be Macaulay Langstaff.
