Mine would be Arthur Mann, a cracking player for Notts.

Hard to pick a Woking player from a well drilled defensive team performance, but I thought Lofthouse, on loan from Oxford, stood out with his speed

Slocombe 7 One good save, one mis communication.

Brindley 5 One good shot but sloppy passes feature again

Rawlinson 6 solid defence

Turner 5.5 Positioning for marking suspect

DKE 6.5 Some good forward positions and crosses

Doyle 6 Tried to make things happen

Reeves 6.5. A goal scoring cross but Wootton failed

JOB 4 Found it difficult to find space

Walker 4 Lightweight, seemingly going missing for long periods

Enzio 5.5 Should have scored...just couldnt beat his marker for long periods

Wootton 4 Golden chance missed in 1st minute. Well marked out of the game

Subs

Rodrigues 7 Tries to be the creative force

Sam 4 Unable to make headway, some poor touches

game management as to how to score in injury time! Booking unjustifiable?

I've listened to the 2nd one first..... again a really good insightful interview by @TheMagpieCircle

Here is my take, reading between the lines:

1) Recruitment: Brano's appointment an absolute disaster waiting to happen ( had he been a head of recruitment elsewhere?..no, I think is the answer)

2) Recruitment : Derry seemingly signed players on "other peoples" recommendations, without ever seeing them play. Jimmy Sirrel did the leg work, travelling up to Scotland midweek to see games... I never got that impression that Shaun put in the miles? he mentioned Greg Abbotts in depth knowledge of L1, L2, Conference...so why did we end up signing the likes of Hayhurst, Wroe, Santos on loan....  It just doesn't hang well together. Bajner being a case on point, signed up on the basis of a call from his agent

3) Budget cuts.... I think people are missing the flip side to this equation. The Trews, probably still had the financial legacy of the Munto fiasco to continually to sort out. Also, maybe, writing without any knowledge...did the Trews have the necessary "dosh" coming in to finance the budgets...hence the cuts being made. I recall Chris Kiwomya saying his budget had been cut by a third...so this was ongoing...

  • Yeah maybe, @Piethagoram I think he was our last signing but he’s played his entire career in L1, and Bolton fans liked and rated him. He’s two levels lower now; he should be more than solid enough for us.

I like DKE but it's got to be so much easier for a natural left-footer in that position. I’m not writing Chicksen off just yet, I need to see more of him – but yeah, he hasn’t exactly had a standout performance so far...

If we're going to challenge, we need to make winning a habit even when we're not on it. We did that and got a third clean sheet in a row. On a personal note, I only listened on the radio yesterday and would prefer the team to put in their most exciting performances when I'm watching :D

I'm encouraged that Enzio has hit form and that JOB has shown an improvement. As for Chicksen, I haven't been impressed so far but I wouldn't write him off yet, he might just need more time to get used to the team and division.

It's good to be in the top three, even if it's close below us. Torquay have only dropped five points all season, which is incredible, but there's no way they can keep that up. We just have to keep on winning. All the same, there are seasons in this league when one team has an amazing season and you can end up getting 90+ points and still missing out. Let's hope this isn't one of them.

Slocombe 6.5 Always look commanding of his area

Brindley 6.5 Much improved, a wonderful ball in the first half that should have been converted

Turner 5.5 One rating point deducted for 3 sloppy moments in the first 5 minutes. Otherwise solid

Rawlinson 6 Did what he needed to

DKE 6.5 Mr versatility, full of energy.

Doyle 5.5 Again some sloppy passing, actually improved in last 10 minutes, to show his experience

Reeves 7 Covered the ground, like an old Andy Hughes ( for those old enough to remember)

Ruben 6 Tries to make things happen. A stupid free kick given away, saw him subbed immediately afterwards

Sam 5.5 Not his day but thought he was unlucky to be subbed first. That Brindley cross, maybe he thought Wootton was going to get a touch to it

Walker 5 Not in the game for long periods, though capable of a quality ball

Wootton 5.5 Never confident of his penalty taking... bit like I was never confident of Rose last season

Subs

Enzio 7 Impressed with his improvement to work for the team... nice set up for Wootton to score

JOB 6 Better from Jim, a good strike deflected

Knowles 3.5 Inexperience showed. Absolute shambolic free  kick given away

Slocombe 7.5 A quiet away day but pulled off a superb free kick save

DKE 7 Industrious performance linking play on the right

Rawlinson  7 One dodgy moment but well handled forward threats

Turner 6.5 Overshadowed today by his partner. Didnt do a lot wrong

Chicksen 5 Poor passing at times, defensively OK

Doyle 5.5 Less influential than normal, tired towards the end

Reeves 6 Thumping shot against the post. Crowded out when going forward

Enzio 6 Getting involved more, especially defensive work but nothing went for him

Ruben 7 Some great chances went begging but looks so comfortable on the ball, trying to make things happen

Sam 7 Physical performance, occupying Dagenhams back line

Wootton 6.5 Real battle with the centre half.

Subs

Walker 6.5 Looks comfortable on the ball

Knowles 4 Anonymous

JOB Not much time to give a rating

A few weeks before I went away with my family to Skegness (thankfully before the lockdown and, other restrictions), I became addicted to Frosties. Before that, I was having a fair amount of Ready Brek, I do like porridge but prefer the smoother taste.

Otherwise, I very rarely eat any type of cereal.

As a kid I enjoyed most of them from Sugar Puffs, Rice Krispies to Frosted Sheddies.

So, what's your favourite cereal? Do you have them for breakfast?

It is not often to see Slocombe being outshone...but Harry Isted looks to have a great future.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Isted

I have always been impressed with Dean Parrett, pity he didn't sign for Notts back in 2013... always looked a quality player and Ardley signed him for Wimbledon.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Parrett

"I've liked Dean ever since he was at Spurs," Dons boss Neal Ardley told the club website.

"He's very dynamic, very quick and technically excellent. I think he has goals in him."

Parrett is Wimbledon's fourth signing of the summer following their promotion to the third tier via the League Two play-offs.

The Dons have not disclosed the length of Parrett's deal at Kingsmeadow.

  • 4 minutes ago, Piethagoram said:

@Super_Danny_AllsoppI actually liked Jay Smith, especially at home versus Morecambe, he bossed the game from midfield with his passing...and yes, he was lightweight....

I am surprised no one has mentioned the Dagenham manager, Daryl McMahon...having played too for Notts:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daryl_McMahon

Me too. Thought he was probably our best player technically, but then again, looking at that teamsheet, it wasn't too difficult.

    Can't even remember McMahon!

The game last night was just one of those games. We were dominant for the whole 90, played well and created lots of chances, but didn't finish any of them. Our finishing needs to improve, but as a setup and a performance, it was good. It's games like these where you miss a Dennis who will get you that one goal. Instead we brought on Knowles who didn't contribute anything of note.

This is less concerning for me because although the result isn't great, the performance was solid. You play like that and you will win 9/10 games.

I really need to make sure I can get to listen/watch the streams, however, I didn't and ended up being told the final score. I have read comments which suggest Notts played well, created chances but nothing clinical.

Others have mentioned a possible penalty, I can't comment on that but did note it lead to comments about the match official being poor.

A draw isn't the worst outcome, Notts are still undefeated and it means that we still have something to protect in terms of avoiding defeat. 3 points would've been nice, yet I can't say that a draw is a bad result.

  • Damien McCrory hasn't yet returned to training but has done light stuff on grass as of this Monday
  • Wes Thomas is back training, he doesn't feel far away from being match ready but Neal Ardley aims to build him up over the next couple of weeks so that he's match sharp.
  • Cal Roberts injury doesn't seem to be as bad as some fans/people have speculated, it sounds like there's work being done behind the scenes and with the arrival of Tom Walker for a month - it would seem he's been signed as cover. It's only speculation on my part, but it seems like he could be back to training within the month. He just requires a little looking after, which would be a blessing.

something i think can put a little perspective into the ardley out situation is that 4 games ago, newly promoted weadstone sat bottom of the table with minus 4 goal difference.

they looked doomed having being beaten by stockport 5-2 at their own ground.

since they have gone on a winning streak of 4 games, this has changed everything for them and now they sit 3rd. tomorrow they play again, they face halifax away and could go 2nd. notts has 2 games over sutton who sit 4th. beating stockport could push notts as high as 6th place. a winning streak for notts could change form, performance and reflect better in the national league table.

there is still a long way to go.

the club tried getting fans behind our last winning streak of 3 games, hopefully we can start a new roll.
