Match Report 17/2/15
Rotherham United 3 Derby County 3
Β
Great game, for a hour we were incredible, went 3-1 up & but for a great Lee Grant save from Matt Derbyshire, it'd have been 4, but County came back well & deservedly in the end claimed a point!!

I was talking to @Dripsey3 in another thread about porridge but I can't find it now. Anyhow, probably worth a separate thread, I tried his suggestion of banana in my porridge and it was very good, thanks Dripsey, Mrs. H. gave it 10 out of 10.
Β
This got me thinking does anyone else have porridge on the forum, we usually have golden syrup and we make it with two thirds milk and one third water, it's comes out lovely and creamy, on our recent cruise I had porridge and it had been made with water it was horrible I didn't like it at all but I know that is probably the proper way to have it.
Β
When I was a youngster mam and dad took us for a holiday to Scotland and at breakfast we were served porridge the landlady of the B&B put a pot of salt on the table. My dad asked for sugar and she looked at him as if he had just crawled out from under a stone. Muttering "sacrilege" under her breath she went to fetch the sugar bowl and almost threw it at him. It seems the Scottish people have salt on their porridge as a tradition and woe betide you if you ask for anything else.
Β
So do you have porridge? If so how do you like it? Any Scottish people on here care to comment?
Does anyone think Derry will drop Adams tonight, replacing him with Newton? I am hopeful to see him.

I keep seeing adverts and trailers for it, never watched the actual show but I plan to do so.
Anyone watch it? What's it like?

Hi,
Β
I'm the pre-match reporter for the Port Vale Fans Forum One Vale Fan.
Β
Part of my role is to contact fans of our forthcoming opponents to ask them a few questions and gain their views on the upcoming fixture between our sides in order to produce a report which we release on the site a couple of days prior to the game.

I wondered if up to three of you have a few minutes and would be prepared to share a few views if you would kindly offer your feelings on the game by answering the following few questions;
1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan?
2. How are your team doing (current form and in relation to the expectation of fans at the start of the season)?
3. Where you think you will finish in terms of league position?
4. Who should we watch out for (one or more danger player/s)?
5. What are your thoughts on your manager?
6. What are your thoughts on your board & off field club activities?
7. Any views on the current Port Vale team & specific players?
8. Did you attend the reverse fixture earlier this season? If so what were your thoughts on the game?
9. Any views & memories of players / managers that have been involved with both teams?
10. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides)?
Β
Please also feel free to include any other information you feel worthy and I will knock it into a report as per the example below regarding contribution from Plymouth fans from our game with them;
http://www.onevalefan.co.uk/site/opposing-views-plymouth/
Β
To enable me to produce this in good time I need a reply by Wednesday and the report should appear on the website a day or two before our fixture.
Β
Please also let me know if you would like me to include your name on the article.
Β
Many thanks for your potential support in this matter.
Β
Best Regards,

Majority of fans who have spoken to me don't see where we will score, though I hate to lift expectations as I do think we shouldn't inflate players, yet I do hold hopes that perhaps Bajner could score his second goal for us. We do have some players who do look likely to score even when the chips are down, however I do agree that it is hard to see us doing so at the current rate of play but knowing Notts we are extremely unpredictable.
Also, most see this as a game whereby we will punished by a considerable amount of goals. I think it will be tighter than that, I think it's possible they could score several goals but I have 1-2 in my mind.
For me it's about how defend and how set ourselves up, if we play to limit them - It will limit us. If we setup to be attacking minded or defensive - this will leave us wide open in my opinion. I think we should be more content with building slowly, until we get into positions where can step on the gas. It's more about being caught out with possession and then being outnumbered within their attacks which concerns me. Will we see Hollis return? I think so, I hope he will put a stand-out performance in and do everything right.
So yeah, I hope for a draw - If we can score early and prevent ourselves from conceding we will grown in confidence.
Prediction - 1-2 to them.
What about you? Score prediction and thoughts?

Apparently a new study has found that after all these years of giving up butter and full fat milk we needn't have bothered because it isn't bad for us after all!
I weaned myself off butter and started using margarine years ago, same with full fat milk we went on to semi skimmed because we didn't want to die of a heart attack. However to be honest I don't think I could go back now as it would make me feel sick to lather my sandwich with butter or drink a glass if full fat milk.
Do you prefer butter or marg, full fat or semi-skimmed milk?

Morning all, I hope we are all well and looking forward to Tuesday night.
It's a bit cloudy but a reasonable day and not too cold, we've got nothing special planned for today, leisurely breakfast, might have a walk or a bike ride, we are trying to get fit and lose some weight. We'll have our dinner at tea time, it's lasagne today, we don't always have a Sunday roast these days. The rest of the day we'll probably relax and get ready for tomorrow it's half term so we'll have a busy three days looking after our two terrors of grandsons.
What you got planned? Do you have a Sunday roast? Lunch time trip to the pub? Anyone still have Sunday papers?

Right then, bottom of the league, having been purchased by Becchetti, they now have the fact that they are to be the subject of a reality TV show in Italy, that will give young Italians the chance to win a pro contract...
Really? The whole thing is to be shown on the TV channel that Becchetti owns.
Now, this has got to be another case of eeejit being allowed near a football club... or can you see it benefitting Orient?
For me it's a definite facepalm moment...
Β
Add this into the mix, and the future does not look good for the Londoners...

It's half term in Notts this week that means we have our grandsons to keep occupied although G is going to a YMCA camp where he stays for the day and does all sorts of fun things.
Have you got children/grandchildren on your hands this week? How do you keep them occupied?
What about @hissingdwarf is it a busy time for you or quieter? I know when we were childminders people thought it was easier for us but actually it was harder work because the kids we normally took to school stayed with us all day!

Happy Valentines Day everyone.
Β
So what have you got planned for today with your loved one? A romantic evening in? A lovely meal at a restaurant?
Β
In the Hateley household it's always Valentines Day so we don't plan anything special in fact we don't bother with cards or presents either. Is that sad?
Β
I think it's very much a younger persons thing and as you get older you get more and more cynical about the cost of flowers this times of year, the constant bombardment of adverts for valentines gifts/cards etc.

What are your thoughts?

That this is the start of the end, that the premier league is going supernova. Sky customers who have a package including sports are to see prices increase... not as much as they should IMO, but by 4 pounds per month initially.
Β
So here is the thing....
Β
Can we expect that the customers will just continue to fork out month after month for Premier League football?
Will the fact that ticket prices constantly rising will mean less in the grounds?
Β
I think that if and when any of this starts to happen, then the sponsors will also start to question the money they put in...
Β
Today there are two articles on the new deal, in the first one Arsene Wenger questions the rises, and in the second Munich fans have their say...
your thoughts?

Notts County's youth team travelled this morning to the interestingly named Sun Hat Villas and Resorts Stadium - or the home of Lincoln United FC to you and me. I always enjoy the trips to watch the youth team at non-league grounds rather than a roped off field at an academy as there are usually luxurious facilities such as seats and sometimes even a half-time cup of tea. But I digress.
With a month of inactivity the young 'Pies have fallen from a position 'closing in on the top spot' to exactly mid-table so a run of good results is now required.
The good news, team wise, was the return of Colby Bishop to the team line-up after a spell in the first team squad.
The two sides were evenly matched and half-time was reached without any score, the closest either side came was when the Notts no.11 (Yohann?) slammed a shot from distance against the crossbar on 40 minutes.
The second half was much of the same with both sets of defenders dominating the game. The Notts team were working well together but couldn't create the opening they needed. The closest they came was a Colby Bishop shot which beat the 'keeper but was cleared off the line by a Lincoln defender. In the final couple of minutes of the game, Jack McMillan, on as a second half substitute, hit a powerful shot into the top corner to win the game and signal the start of joyous celebrations amongst the young Magpies.
This afternoon I watched Loughborough Dynamo FC v Rainworth Miners Welfare FC. I only mention this because anyone who has watched the Notts youth team over the last couple of seasons will recognise the names, Elliot Brown, Gino Kelleher, Glodie Bange and Romello Nangle - all currently members of the Rainworth squad.

Lincoln City defender Sean Newton signs for Notts County
Β
Sean Newton has left Lincoln City to join League One outfit Notts County on loan until the end of the season.
Β
The left back is out of contract this summer and has had a number of Football League clubs chasing his signature, but no deal was done before the January Transfer Window slammed shut last week.
Β
The 26-year-oldΒ has been a sterling performer for Lincoln this season having created 11 goals, the second highest in the divisionΒ and will be remembered for his hat-trick against Alfreton in the FA Cup at Sincil Bank.
Β
He has weighed in with four league goals, but it his creativity from set-pieces and out wide which has interested Notts County boss SeanΒ Derry, who is keen to improve his side's goals output.
Β
The Echo understands Newton's move has been financially beneficial to the club.
Cranston has gone out on loan, this deal is a swop it seems. I liked Cranston, lets hope this lad is better (as it seems we might sign him permanently at the end of the season).
Thoughts?

Yup that's what they say. This is kind of a where are they now... ex Magpie Kevin Wilson has teamed up with an old tree hugger to rebuild careers and kick start players dreams again...

Quite a good article apart from the bit where they had to sneak in the two European cups...

Chairman Ray Trew looks back on five years at the club...
I canΓ’β¬β’t believe it has been five years since we agreed the deal to take ownership of Notts County Football Club, the WorldΓ’β¬β’s Oldest Football League Club.
Of course I say ownership, but as I have stressed in the past, we are merely custodians of this great club, responsible for guiding it forwards as best we can and whilst IΓ’β¬β’m not going to pretend that itΓ’β¬β’s been an easy ride, I feel that we are moving in the right direction.
ItΓ’β¬β’s a shame in some ways that this anniversary has come around so quickly because I genuinely believe that the best years lie ahead and I hope that in five yearsΓ’β¬β’ time I am writing an even more positive message, because that is certainly the aim of the Board of Directors, the coaching staff and everyone involved with the club at present.
In Shaun Derry and Greg Abbott and those that they have assembled around them we have a coaching team that we can believe in and trust. Everyone wants to see instant success, but IΓ’β¬β’ve learned in the past five years that patience really is a virtue and I hope that I have found a team that we, as a club, can put our faith in to deliver, as they have already showed they can to be fair.
ItΓ’β¬β’s been a difficult few weeks, nobody is denying that, but there has been progress under Shaun and Greg, that is equally obvious and I really believe that they are moving the club in the right direction on the pitch, but will need time to achieve their goals, which at the end of the day are shared by all of us.
I want to see this club in the Championship, I have said that from day one and my resolve and ambition to see that materialise is as strong as ever. IΓ’β¬β’ll be honest and admit that there have been dark days along the way, when things just havenΓ’β¬β’t gone our way for one reason or another, but as I have said, itΓ’β¬β’s been a learning experience and IΓ’β¬β’d like to think IΓ’β¬β’m a better person for it, certainly a better Chairman for the lessons that I have learned, sometimes the hard way, over the years.
But as you yourselves, as fans, will know, it really gets under your skin this club, in the best way possible. It feels like a club that deserves success, that deserves to be talked about for all the right reasons, itΓ’β¬β’s the oldest professional football club in the world, thatΓ’β¬β’s not something we should take lightly.
Streamlining the business to make it self-sustainable should not be seen as a lack of ambition, far from it, itΓ’β¬β’s a means of securing this clubΓ’β¬β’s future and ensuring that we are best placed to progress, both on the pitch and off it. This is a business after all and thereΓ’β¬β’s no point pushing for success on the pitch if you are doing so at the expense of matters off it, because they will catch up with you and it can be disastrous, as we have seen in the past here at Meadow Lane. That is not something I am prepared to let happen again.
The backing and continued support that you give the club, from the fan who comes to maybe just one or two games a season to our many season ticket holders, you have all played a part in getting this club to where it is and you all have a key role to play in helping to move it forwards.
Planning is already well underway for next season, on the playing side and behind the scenes on the business side, with areas identified where we can improve and some things to be looked at in terms of where we can reduce our outgoings, because we need to marry the income with the expenditure, just like every other business out there.
I will continue to back the Manager as best I can and look to ensure that we are competitive to a level that allows us to push for promotion, because that is the goal, as I have said, but I will not do so in a way that jeopardises this clubΓ’β¬β’s existence, nor in a way that prejudices the relationships that we have repaired and developed with local businesses.
So as we look back on five years at the club, I hope that you, like me, can enjoy reminiscing about some of the good times, such as the promotion-winning season obviously, games against the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Juventus, but also remembering how we have overcome challenges, not least last season, to be a stronger club for the experience and better placed to push forwards.
I have said in the past that I wonΓ’β¬β’t always get everything right, I have talked about learning from my mistakes, but I also want to stress that it is only by pulling together that we have ever really achieved anything as a club and that will always be true, so letΓ’β¬β’s look ahead with a renewed sense of optimism and belief and look to overcome the trips and hazards that will no doubt await us along the way to build a brighter future for Notts County FC.
Onwards and upwards
Ray Trew
Chairman.
