Shaun Derry wants Notts County to finish 'Great Escape' with a bang

SHAUN Derry wants Notts County to finish their 'Great Escape' with a bang as he vowed not to play for the draw which will guarantee their survival.

Β

The Magpies boss is bracing his team for one of the club's biggest matches in their recent history when they travel to Oldham on Saturday.

Β

Notts need just a point at Boundary Park to retain their League One status, which could have led Derry to deploy defensive tactics for the showdown.

Β

But the Magpies chief says that's not in his nature and has made it clear that he wants to finish one of the unlikeliest escape acts in style.

Β

"I don't want us to play for the draw, I want to go and win the game instead," said Derry. "I've made that clear and with the form that we are in I certainly feel we can do it as well.

Β

"Naturally we will show Oldham the utmost respect, of course we will.

Β

"Fair credit to them and Lee Johnson because he has done a great job.

Β

"But it's not about them. I am only concentrating on us and I really want all three points.

Β

"And if we stay up, I know it will be my greatest achievement.

Β

"I now appreciate all those times I knocked on the manager's door when I was a player and caused havoc, I now know there are two sides to the story."

Β

Ticket sales for Notts' date with destiny were continuing to soar yesterday with the club having already sold their initial allocation of 3,000.

Β

A further 1,000 were given to the Magpies and a sell-out is expected which will give the players an army of support.

Β

It's one of the biggest followings the club has taken to a league fixture since playing Lincoln City in 1998 in a Division Three promotion clash.

Β

The club's marketing manager Damian Irvine says the atmosphere promises to be something special.

Β

"The level of support we will be taking is absolutely phenomenal," he said.

Β

"To have sold our initial allocation of 3,000 so quickly just goes to show what this club is all about.

If you park in or around London and leave any wheels on the pavement area you will be liable to a fixed parking penalty. This pictureΒ  is what the traffic warden took of my car when I was parked in Ruislip, it cost me £110 or £55 if I pay within two weeks.

Well Done to Haydn Hollis who claimed the NCFCOSA's Young Player of the Season.
Β

Yesterday fans and members of the NCFCOSA attended the Young Player of the Season Award Evening. The inaugural award for the best under-21 player who has come through NottsÒ€ℒ academy as a scholar was scooped up by Hayden Hollis. Fellow nominees Greg Tempest, Curtis Thompson, Fabian Spiess, and Kyle Dixon also attended, along with other academy players, and youth team coaches Dan Leivers and Anny Ninje.
Β

Everyone present felt privileged to hear First Team coach/manager Shaun Derry lay out his plans for the integration of young players into the first team squad and give a frank and honest appraisal of the players coming through the system. We were left in no doubt that Notts have an exciting time ahead.

Up the M1 & M62. Iff you are driving and see fellow pies give them a honk, I most certainly will.

Nothing beats seeing a pub full of NCFC fans, however when it's the pub which a former legendary manager used to frequent and is honoured - Well the sense of pride and respect sort combined to make it all that more special. The walk just as impressive, as our fans took to walking all the way from the Cross Keys pub all the way to Meadow Lane!

Personally I had been looking forward to it for awhile, I had collected sponsorship from day one and as some are aware I dislocated my left knee not long after.

With my right knee being such a problem and with the left going, I was advised by medial staff (physio and a specialist) not to do the walk. However, anyone who knows me will tell you I am stubborn but I wanted to do the walk for two reasons. 1) I wanted to help raise funds for the statue 2) I wanted to test myself.

Over 70 fans made the walk, which is very impressive!

For me there was no issue's whatsoever, I could feel my right knee and after the game I was walking funny but so proud to have walked it.

Well Done to everyone involved!!

Thank you to @BradtheMiller @sadlad @tonyhateley @magpiejue @Cobby @Joe Jones @jurgenpie and many others for sponsoring me! I can't tell you how much it means to me :)

I don't want to be negative but I am a bit worried about Saturday.

Β

Both Crewe and Tranmere are at home we are not brilliant away. It is not beyond the bounds of possibility that they both win and we lose in which case we would go down. I just hope that the players aren't thinking that the job is done and make that last push for a result at Oldham. It will be very nervy to say the least, please tell me I am being paranoid and it will all end happily.

Been to get 4 this morning. Nearly 2000 sold. Should be a sellout. I'm leaving straight from work at 11.00. Only just over 2 hours, so should be ok.

You might have seen Gladbach's 1-0 win at Schalke yesterday on TV. What has come to light today in the statistics is that they only committed 1 foul in the whole 90 minutes. The previous Bundesliga record low was 6 apparently.

Β

Does anyone know of any team that committed no fouls at all?

It's that time of the month where we seek your vote(s), this month @Canadian's decided the nominations for April's Member of the Month and as always the lineup is full of contenders to his former crown.

One Vote - Please choose who you feel is the most deserving, if you're in the running please vote for someone else and hopefully this will be fun for all involved! Voting ends on the 29th at 7:30pm, not long after the winner will be announced. It's been an interesting month with the great escape and hopefully our growing community flourish further, just as much as Notts have done.

Hi @hysongreenpie, welcome to Pride of Nottingham. Please do tell us a little about yourself :) In the meanwhile, I hope you like what you see and look forward to seeing future contributions. See you around the community!

Mullins has been recalled by Birmingham, that's a blow for the Oldham match. I'd drop Liddle back to defence and bring Vela in to midfield.

Portsmouth FCL vs Notts County LFC

wlsmatchthreadfullpfcnc.png

Notts County travel south to face Portsmouth Ladies as both sides battle it out in the quarter final of the FA Women's Cup.
Β

With the lucrative prize of a place in the semi final beckoning, both teams will be keen to come out with a victory, with the winner facing the victor of the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton.
Β

Portsmouth are the only team left in the competition to not play in either the WomenÒ€ℒs Super League 1 or 2 and Notts will go into the game clear favourites, as they sit top of the tree in England, currently leading WSL1.
Β

Notts County progressed through to the quarter final with victory over Southern Premier side Coventry City Ladies, who sit one place ahead of SundayÒ€ℒs opponents Portsmouth. Pompey have had to beat four teams to reach the quarter final, scoring 12 in the process, including a 2-1 victory over WSL2 side Durham Women in the 5th Round.
Β

Notts County continue to be without long term absentee Ellen White, who picked up an injury against Durham in pre-season, but still have the fire power of Jess Clarke and Dunia Susi who have netted five between them in the seasonÒ€ℒs first three games. Portsmouth arenÒ€ℒt shy of goals either, Lucy Quinn netting 18 goals in 24 appearances, with Gemma-Louise Hillier chipping in with 13 goals in 25 appearances.

This Saturday's fixtures:
AFC Bournemouth v Nottingham Forest

Doncaster Rovers v Reading

Carlisle United v Oldham Athletic

Rotherham United v Milton Keynes Dons

Bury v Portsmouth

Wycombe Wanderers v Bristol Rovers

The sad farewell of Nottingham man Colin Pomberth, who died alone

Β

- Pensioner died alone and neighbours did not even know his name

- Decomposing body discovered by police weeks after his death

- Three people attend the 'public health funeral'

THREE distant relatives attended the funeral of pensioner Colin Pomberth, who died alone.

A short service at Wilford Crematorium yesterday was one of three already held this week in similar circumstances.

Β

Such tragedies have led Age UK Notts, backed by the Post, to launch a campaign to End Loneliness.

Β

The last time anyone saw partially-deaf Mr Pomberth, 72, alive, he was putting his bins outside his sparsely-furnished home in Hopedale Close, Radford, on August 14 last year.

Β

His neighbours did not even know his name.

Β

But one realised something was wrong when maggots began dropping through her ceiling from his flat above.

Β

Police discovered his body. It was so badly decomposed that a cause of death could not be determined.

Β

Β

Very, very sad. Really says a lot about communities these days, once upon a time everyone would have known everyone but because of the way we have gone people now hide themselves a way - keeping to themselves.

R.I.P Colin Pomberth

Β

If anyone is interested, I took quite a few crowd pics. I tend to do this for the majority of games where ever possible really, however It's only just came to me people within our community might be interested.

You never know I might have taken some with you in. - Gallery

Hi, Villa fan here hope you dont mind me signing up. Was wondered how Jack grealish was getting on an Notts County? Good luck for the rest of the season.

I've been into photography for a number of years, however I have never taken it seriously. I do tend to take snaps with my mobile and the quality of those are okay, I don't claim to be a @Dan or anything.

It's just something I enjoy to do.

I'm really enjoying using the camera, it's not a full DSLR but something I can learn to use (whilst I save up for a full camera). :D:thumbsup:

Poinstewsrdsts to keep in your mind, when reading.

1.I have been a steward for 28 years, and the longest serving steward.

2. We have always had to sign in for duty by 1pm.On Saturdays.

Left home a bit later than usual on Saturday, so had to hurry, was out of breath, due to the recent respiratory failure, by the time I got to the stewards room. Got there at 5 to 1, only to be told that I was to late to sign in and to go home. I said it's only 5 to. Sorry to late.

I asked If could watch the game. Yes but only if you buy a ticket. I didn't exit ground and went into Lawtons bar and had a couple of drinks, and stayed and watched game. I was fuming after being treated like this.

My dilemma is I am thinking of a season ticket. And tell them to stuff it. But the money I earn there helps towards our holidays. And I do get to see all the game. Am I cutting my nose off to spite my face.

A season ticket would cost me 220.00 pounds.

But I enjoy stewarding.

Can you see my dilemma.

P.s

sorry its a bit long winded.
