Keith Curle's Gone! New Manager?

Featured Replies

Curle, who took over at Meadow Lane in February of last year, was informed of the decision by Chairman Ray Trew on Sunday afternoon, in the wake of SaturdayÒ€ℒs 2-1 defeat to Hartlepool United.

Β

Notts have won just two of their last 11 games in all competitions, a run that has seen them drop to 10th in the npower League 1 table, five points off the play-off places and Mr Trew felt that a change had to be made, with Curle and first team coaches Colin Lee and Colin West relieved of their duties.

Β

Ò€œThis obviously is not a decision that we have taken lightly and certainly not one that I have taken any pleasure in reaching, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Keith Curle both as a man and a manager,Ò€ explained the Notts Chairman.

Β

Ò€œSince Keith first came in, just under a year ago, we, as a Board, have backed him to bring in the players that he believed could move Notts County on to the next level and felt that he assembled a squad capable of challenging for promotion this season.

Β

Ò€œHowever, recent displays have unfortunately not lived up to expectations and our poor disciplinary record this season has only further hampered our progress,Ò€ he added.

Β

Ò€œAttendances at Meadow Lane have dropped in recent weeks and this has made this a business decision as much as a footballing one, because fans are obviously key to the club and their support is essential.

Β

Ò€œI would like to thank Keith, as well as Colin Lee and Colin West for all of their hard work and effort over the past year, there have been plenty of highs to enjoy in that period but there comes a time when we, as a Board, have to consider what we feel is best for the future of the club.Ò€

Any new name for the manager?

I don't know who could come in to be honest and I'm not going to name anyone. I'll wait to see who is in the running and respect our boards decision as this will be a tough one. We certainly need experience, someone who can motivate and get the players playing to their level. I just don't know who this would be to perfectly honest. (similar to what a friend has said)

Don't say that!!

I have a lot of respect for Paul and he shouldn't of been dismissed from Oldham as they can hardly expect him to pull off miracles and his first season was better than they could dream of but the second usually follows with disappointment. He isn't the man to take us further but would be supported none the less. I just really hope you're wrong.

We'll to be honest I think Curle should have stayed we have definitely improved during his tenure but probably falling attendances were a key factor.

Now he's gone so we move on and I would be happy to see Coterill back.

I don't know of anyone. Alot of fans have wanted him sacked for awhile now... but there were also fans that didn't as with every club.

We'll just move on and see who we get as a manager next.

I don't think getting previous managers is a good option though.

Phil Brown has put his name in the hat on Sky Sports News, we do need to take our time getting in right, a few managers looking for jobs like Nigel Adkins, Simon Grayson or even Billy Davies.

I wouldn't mind Phil Brown! I like his passion and he's a good technician in my opinion. I've had a few mention Billy Davies but he likes money, it becomes a problem when he doesn't and could be an issue. Not sure about Adkins or Grayson myself

Also like 2pies comment. :)

Very saddened by the decision. The club failed Curle in that we didnt make enough funds available for him, the players have let him down and for many fans the knives were sharpenned from day 1. A lot of happy people but for me its a sad, sad day.

I'll try and get a blog done later which will be my full view on it (cheeky plug ;) )

For the time being development team coach Chris Kiwomya has been given the caretaker role. He's a very brave man to take this job on after suffering such a recent personal tradegy in the loss of his son. I hope people will think about that before having a go at him. Best of luck to him, I'm right behind him

shocked and disappointed! i'm starting to question who it is I support these days.

he got you some good players who are at fault, you cannot instruct the blind but only help them. as i'm not a fan of this club I might be speaking our of turn but it's shocking. "Attendances at Meadow Lane have dropped in recent weeks and this has made this a business decision as much as a footballing one, because fans are obviously key to the club and their support is essential." so the supporters force the boards hands into making a decision which isn't fair on a manager who wasn't given time to build his own squad. this season you would of been lucky to finish in the playoffs.

I believe they will now keep Chris Kiwomya to the end of the season. Maybe longer depending on how he gets on. If it is to be someone else, they will come in then and build their own team over the summer.

But lately all my predictions turn out wrong.

hope you are wrong, no offence.

would make sacking curle pointless. chris will need broad-shoulders because it could go horribly wrong. support the club but do have concerns if he stays until the end of the season why sack curle?

I understand the views of all the above.I was very surprised when Cotterill was sacked and am also surprised at the timing of the latest sacking.I've been a Rams fan for nearly 60 years now so I shouldn't be surprised by anything that happens in football or life in general for that matter.I thought Phil Brown did a fair job at Derby under difficult circumstances and also at Hull.Billy Davis got us promoted to the Prem but with a team that was hopelessly inadequate to survive there. As for anyone else well let's wait and see.

Don't get me wrong liampie. Its not what I want. Its just what I wouldn't be surprised to see happen. It seems my thoughts may be true after the CEO's comments today.

Yes, It's a little bit of a surprise but we don't know if it's just to take heat away from them choosing a new manager for a little while. Chris's time will probably depend on how he does, so with our support hopefully this can be a positive thing for us but if it turns out we struggle a little it would be quite controversial to keep him charge having dismissed Keith Curle.

Hope he does do well for us.

suppose its budget permitting but we need experience. i do wish chris well but i'm very concerned

I get the feeling Notts are going to wait for the season to be over before they get a new manager in, now they are unable to sign anymore players(apart from on loan).

Alot of people on here seem to be thinking the same thing, I hope we are all wrong.

reading rays notes it looks likely but one fans probably will not give chance in the end.
