Would you like to see Derry play?

Featured Replies

I would love to see Shaun Derry play for Notts County he has had a great career.  I will say i would only like to see him play part time though as we need his prescence on the touch line. He is a great manager and has brought us on leaps and bounds.

I think we've accepted he's retired now.

At the start of the season I was hoping we might see him feature in the odd game, in fact I actually expected him to play in order to control the budget better. However he's signed plenty who play the exact same position and the only way we will see him now is due to injuries or suspensions.

if we struggled derry would probably select himself.

theres not been much need for him, perhaps in the big games like yesterdays game his experience could have been useful but i am happy to see him just manage us.

When we're 20 points clear at the top of the league, then I wouldn't mind seeing him get a run out.

I think you can manage and play, I think it says more about the manager and player though.

Do you focus on your own performance? Do you try to focus on playing and seeing what is happening with others? Captains actually replicate what a playing manager can do. How many players who's gone into player manager roles have done well? Once upon a time it was all the rage.

If Derry was to ever put on a Notts shirt, I strongly feel Greg Abbott could provide the off field view to change things.

Some might be forgetting that.

I wouldn't want to see him play just for the sake of it.  If performances started to go downhill and we started to fall down the table and we needed to try something different, then maybe, but only if it worked!  I would hope that we have suitable other options.

I might use this as a question on meet the fans if you don't mind @cotton13

I do not feel there is much need right now.

I think it would take more than a bad ruin also, he needs to rely on his players.

Would it be counterproductive?

Could it send a message to the others "you aren't good enough for this team" "do I have to do everything myself"

Just saying, it might not be the right thing.

Didn't he play in the friendly at Arnold?

Personally I think if he doesn't want to play, he shouldn't be on the pitch. I was keen on the idea last season when we really needed some quality in midfield, but FL regulations put paid to that. Now we're doing OK and seem to have enough strength in depth without having to bring anyone out of retirement.

He's getting more satisfaction from being on the sidelines.
