@Northants Pie it sounds to me as though you are a disenchanted Tory, or at least a Red Tory who doesnt like Mr Blair (I agree with your sentiment btw). But labour going back to the left/far left will IMO see them in the wilderness for a fair while.

No need to insult the guy by calling him a Tory. That's a bit of a strong insult!!!

It could always have been worse... the SNP could have got somewhere near government and then if my ears are right... the poll tax saga would have looked like Andy Pandy visits the seaside

Labour now has to spend alot of time reassessing its views on policies that will touch everyone in the country. Yes the terrible unfair wealth distribution needs correcting, but it was far too much ' the poor vs the the rich' this time and that left out the rest of the Country! Labour needs to represent the future of the majority of the Country.

Have you ever had any experience or spoke to someone who was / is a city trader? The distribution of wealth needs to be sorted right there as if you have enough money you can play no lose betting, in simplistic terms if you win you win a pound for every 10 pence bet, if you lose the bet returns 50 pence for every ten pence bet. This is in large what caused the financial collapse last time round. The companies shares that are being traded in this manner have a massively false share value and when that is found out there is a big empty hole in the middle that needs filling and usually with public money.

With the economy and saving money etc look on the link to see what we (the UK) spend our monies on. Should open a few eyes.

Well I voted labour on Thursday before going away for a short break, I was desperately disappointed when I found out we have another five years of the Tories.

First Notts relegated, now Labour defeated I don't think I can take much more disappointment.

However the country have decided and although the vast majority didn't vote Conservative that's what we've got and we have to live with it for better or worse.

Strange this... supporters of either side never bring this up when they win... I notice that Labour didnt worry about not having 51% while in power last time...

Put more sugar on thee grapes.... ;)

I'm going to address a couple of points that @PTID1862 has made, as I hear them very often.

"You shouldn't spend any more than you earn, and that applies for households, Notts and the country" - seems a simple and reasonable sentiment on the face of it, however, what the government knows but is for some reason unwilling to tell us is that a government budget is fundamentally different. When you as a private person spend more than you earn, you'll end up in debt. Government spending, on the other hand, can stimulate growth, increase income and lower the budget deficit if the balance is right. It is an investment in the future. Not every investment brings an immediate financial return either - better and more sports facilities don't necessarily bring in money, but result in happier, fitter people and hopefully less strain on the NHS in future. Another significant difference is that (most) governments can and do print their own money, something you would be put in prison for doing yourself!

Another point was that Labour are the "class war party". You are wrong there. The Tories have always been the party of class war on behalf of the rich and powerful, and thanks to their friends in the media and the lack of opposition from Labour have managed to persuade many working class people that rent controls and a higher minimum wage are not in their interests. What the latter actually means is that the government will continue to subsidise businesses that pay their employees poverty wages, which is bad for the employees, costly for the government but good for the bosses. Thanks to their class war (and the lack of it from Labour), the UK is richer than it has ever been before but a million people and growing rely on food banks to feed themselves. The Tories' support for the rich and powerful has been consistent and unwavering, which is why they have the loyalty of the major media proprietors. Labour's support for working class people, on the other hand, has not been unwavering and they have been all too willing to accept the Tory agenda in an effort to win support from the media, which is one reason why even their support in their heartlands is eroding.

I find it interesting that the Tories want 51% of unions' to vote to walk out before they are allowed to go on strike. I wonder if they will apply the same logic to their own election result and decline to take power, since only 24% of people voted for them? ;)

BTW this is a public forum and people can and will talk complete rubbish (IMO), but no-one here is "scum" :)

@Dripsey3 as I said in an earlier post... I am unsure if withdrawing from the EU will be bad for Britain... I am at the least sceptical about our membership.

Bye bye NHS and anything supportive to those of the working class/poor.

Posted

@CliftonMagpie rather generalising... do you have any specifics?

Well the NHS will be sold off, I am sure of that. Rather than creating jobs and helping people, David will focus on off loading people of the books and in return the homeless count will increase just to save a little.

Oh and those generally kicked of benefits ARE not those who live on them. So why don't they focus on those types???

Not to worry....I am better off already
