The budget

@Super_Danny_Allsopp tell me me about it. When I went to check on the details before I posted it (and yes I do check them all as much as possible to ensure they're factually correct!) I was amazed at how anyone could stoop so low!

For the vast majority of people ... Life is about choices!

Whether you care to see/admit that or not.....Pour scorn or not.... Respond or not.... is neither here or there to me.

I am quite happy with that budget for myself, my wider community, and in general terms the country as a whole!

The Under-25s have been royally screwed over. Were it not for the maintenance grant I don't know how I would have coped in those early years at uni - who the hell would take on an 18-year-old with no prior job experience? That money helped get me through until I did eventually get a part-time job. They could have possibly slashed it to a lower amount, or possibly put up some sort of mechanism whereby there is a designated "uni trust fund" which would require permission from the bank and uni to be withdrawn/transferred for, say paying for housing. A lot of grant money does get pissed up the wall or puked down toilets/the gutter, yes, but let's not screw over those who legitimately need the money.

Eh?

Just to clarify - you agree that 'being poor is a choice'?

Did I say that? No.

Life is about choices, and the vast majority of people get to make choices...

I don't think what we were finding funny/distressing is the part of the quote 'Life is about choices', more-so the 'being poor is as much a choice as being well off'.

Some families are going to be put under strain, and that might be life but then so should politicians and bankers earning minimum wage.

Make them sweat a bit.

@Super_Danny_Allsopp getting out of being poor is possible if you make the right choices. We have covered all this before, I don't think there is any need to keep going on.

Hey it's getting you both to post, so keep at it.

A field where dreams become reality.

I think the country has been, to use @Joe Jones quote royally screwed unfortunately.

The idea that the poorest and least defenceless in the country has been pushed down even further is astonishing.

And if you're under 25 now forget it. Unless you go into banking of course then you'll be gold plated!

The budget has proven that is it a case of smoke and mirrors yet again with lots of little cuts here and there with the attempt at a higher min wage (which still isn't enough btw)

It's the living up to the expected that's the worst for me. I knocked on hundreds of doors during the election campaign (and before anyone says what good did it do-my m.p. returned a maj of 18,000 from 231 last time) and the under 25, in the main, didn't care because they didn't trust any politician.

Scenario...

The Conservative party, right all of the wrongs and injustices in this country, it pays everybody above the age of 18 25,000 a year minimum, just for breathing.

The entire country is guaranteed a university education and a job paying high earning.... there is no such thing as a food bank...

There will still be some of those who vote Labour that will maintain that they are scum of the earth and are only there for the richest in society...

We must all earn the same... clearly... we must all be granted exactly the same ... no matter what!

Socialism is not necessarily the doom of the country. In fact when I'm addressing the CLP tomorrow evening I will go with something I said earlier. After speaking to lots of people during the campaign I can see the disenfranchisement of the country under the age of 25. Why? Because there aren't any alternatives for them apart from fringes. The press may mock Jeremy Cornyn, but just by being on the ballot paper gives the Labour party the chance to reflect upon what it offers the country. A generation has passed who know nothing apart from Tory or tory-lite under Blair. Just maybe there needs to be an alternative. And no @PTID1862 Communism is not the answer, but nice suggestion comrade.
