Let's put it behind us

I, as many of the other 7K Notts fans in attendance last night, have woken up today with a very sour taste in my mouth. The same sour taste as if you were to consume a HUGE packet of Haribo Tangfastics as you cried yourself to sleep and leave yourself asking.. "Is this real?"

Yes we played bloody woefully.. For a game as important as this, not only it being our first home game where we get to put our stamp on the home form in this league but a chance at early bragging rights.

This was a derby that only one team turned up for and FULL credit to Mansfield because they gave one hell of a performance both on and off the pitch, it was an absolute incredible performance from the 'yellows' that saw them boss every aspect of the game in all areas.

But that sour taste is accompanied by optimism... As I was purchasing my home shirt in the club shop at the end of the game i said to myself "I am willing to disregard what I witnessed tonight and put it down to lack of fight and determination for the occasion from the players and nothing more. I will carry on my belief through what I witnessed in pre-season, coupled with what I saw at Stevenage and what I read about the Huddersfield game and give the players time".
I know this is going to be nothing short of an impressive season for Notts.. one i am very glad to be a part of. With Oxford Tuesday night and Accrington on Saturday, the players will soon get a feel for the physical and demanding pace of this league and soon find their comfort zone and be racking up the points...

A very valuable lesson last night and if we learn from it, we'll be fine. 44 games to go....

Thats pretty fair.

I don't think Moniz will accept that level of play again. This was the first test of the Season, now we have to see what they bring

Anyone thing  if Swerts & Aborah we're playing it'd be a different scoreline.

As impressive as some of our play has been this season we NEED to play both Jimmy & John upfront at home and when players are knackered give them a rest.....

From what I heard Jenner was in bed for most of the game and we had wiley coyote on the bench picking splinters out his arse.

Still not overly bothered as we'll find the right mixture soon.. hopefully

Well the morning after the night before and...I'm still peed off with the result and the performance (all be it I listened on the radio), but will I be there next home game? Yes of course.

Will the players get their acts together? I bloody well hope so because if we are in for another season of rubbish at home then we might as well go and support the Stags because all the early season optimism will (maybe already has?) disappear quickly.

Roll on Oxford and Accy. Hopefully two better performances (especially at home next Saturday) will put the derby nerves behind us.

Even though we were poor, I still think if we had a goal poacher in the team we could have sneaked at least a draw, there was a few decent crosses knocked in that were crying out for a striker to get on the end of.

Its early in the season. You win some, you lose some. Until form and consistency is found, results like this are bound to happen because its a lot for players to take on board. Its pretty obvious the occasion got lost in translation but that said I do not blame the dutch/belgium players.

I have seen on social media people pointing their fingers to the newly nicked "foreign legion", it is no more their fault than it is Ricardo Moniz's.

Had this result happened at a point whereby we needed the result, I could accept the major over reaction to losing but people should just treat this as nothing more than a blip. Why do some always lose the faith so easily?

I've forgotten it already.

The players lacked someone outfield who could take charge of the game, Mansfield had several and I think Noble's comments ensured they did. It's just a shame we didn't until Burke came on.

Amevor bud, Aborah played but I know that's whom you mean't.

Well that must have been a massive disappointment. I was buzzing before the game and was expecting Notts to put on a show. That's me brought back down to earth with a bump.

If the team really was lacking in effort and commitment, that'd make me more worried, not less. We can all accept that footballers at this level have their limitations, but maximum effort is a MINIMUM requirement! If we have players on board who can't motivate themselves for the first home game of the season and in some cases their first home game for this club, for a Derby match in front of a big and buzzing crowd, it doesn't bode well for the rest of the season.

Let us hope it was a one-off from which lessons will be learned.

Qute right, well said.

Like everybody I left Meadow Lane feeling extremely disgruntled and embarrassed on Friday night, especially after having forked out in excess of a hundred quid to be there and spent two months building up to it. Defeat we can accept. As Notts fans we're used to it, but it was the manner of the defeat. There was not one positive to take from it. It was a terrible result & an even worse performance. Credit to Stags, they completely deserved it. The truth is we were lucky to get nil.

But its gone now. I know its a bit cliche, but we really must use this as a wake up call. I honestly felt worse than I did after Gillingham on Friday night, but we have to use that feeling as the motivation to work even harder, and really push on. You never know, in a few months time we might look back on it like we did the games at Barnet & Morecambe early in the 09/10 season as the wake up call we needed.

They have a lot of making up to do after that, let's hope they start on Tuesday night

@LadybrookPie Nicely put, lets just focus on trying to achieve the best possible outcome this season.

There are many games to be played, Mansfield is just one of those.

we need to accept the defeat but i do not know why each time something like this happens, fans switch from one end of the spectrum to the other. its so annoying! we will walk the league to panic at the disco.

its not that bad, we lost a local derby for hevens sake.
