A new contract has been offered to Wes Atkinson, who made 18 appearances for the Magpies during the 2015/16 season. Defender Haydn Hollis has also been offered a new deal. Jordan Richards option taken up.
Valencic and Murray released, but given the option to try and earn a new contract. Bye bye everyone else, apart from the player coaches.

Liam Noble, Will Hayhurst (remember him?) and Blair Adams released, Alan Smith has been offered another player/coach contract but will be more involved in the backroom team. Colby Bishop and Lartey Sarpong are also leaving us.

Discuss!

I can kind of understand the Wes Atkinson offer, as he has played a few games and is still young enough to develop, but Hollis? What are they thinking?!? He has shown that he is just not good enough and should have gone with the rest of them!

Other than that, I am not surprised at the decisions, but I thought Audel only had a one year contract, so puzzled by this one?

I thought the same! I don't understand the part about Jordan Richards, it says option to extend contract, does that mean he has one or they are waiting till the loan is finished ?

under contract, lets say for this season but due to expire, but when he signed the first time there was the option for notts to take up on another year.

@ohstanleyaborah Never for one minute suggested he had a future... Wildin should have won young player of the year

Hollis is a liability... no pace.. cannot tackle... out-jumped by midgets... and gets nutmegged in most games.

Thank god i have held on to my ST money

I am surprised by this too... Hollis or Pearce at Mansfield...I know which one I would have offered a contract too

I've heard he makes a mean cup of tea.

Well either wildin or Gibson, but you would think he stood a chance if he won young player of the year

As with others above, I'm not sure what Hollis has done.

Completely outraged Hayhurst has been released, should have been offered a 5 year contract and our top earner!

He isnt good enough and i doubt ever will be, he cant compete with Montel Gibson and that has to be the yard stick unfortunately.

If another player comes in and is better then the lesser capable move on.

Very disappointed to see that Jordan Aghatise has been released.  He looked a player of some potential to me in the reserve games.  He had pace, power, a good touch and the sort of physical presence you look for in a centre back.  He couldn't have been on much money, I would like to have seen him get another year.

What right do you have to tell me I'm wrong?  You're not my Granddaughter.

@Elite_pie Totally agree Elite.. Aghatise showed potential ...rather have him than Hollis

When all said and done dependent on budget a cull was needed and if Ricardo gets his targets off us as well we will have scope or room in the squad size for the new boss to bring in some better additions to make us more competitive, without it being a ridiculously large squad .

Blair Adams piece in the post makes sense now but if you was to pitch what he wrote to a perspective new club - I certainly go for someone who can keep their head down and fight regardless. I expect Mansfield to pick him, he's no real loss.

I'm disappointed about Ronan Murray, but after his injury I can see why.

Some other players departures have surprised me, I was hoping Alan Smith would just remain as a coach (fingers crossed that is his deal.

@liampie ..the problem is that Agathise was the better option...rather than Hollis, end of!

i know hollis is not perfect but all this bashing makes me laugh, if we sign good cbs he wont feature much. where is the problem?

i agree with the retained list, its about right.

Fingers crossed we do!

I think its important to have a strong CB partnership, that's important. Hollis is worth hanging onto but if he doesn't improve or perform well enough this season - he will have to move on.

Fingers crossed the signings that come in are ALL better than what are here already.

@notts-joe How many times more, do you hope Hollis is going to improve? :D

I think people have been saying it for the past 3 seasons only for him to get worse [emoji23]
