On 20 November 1976, Notts County clinched an impressive 5-1 win over a Fulham outfit featuring Bobby Moore, George Best and Rodney Marsh in a Second Division match at Craven Cottage.

Mick Vinter struck for the Magpies after just 45 seconds and went on to grab a second later in the game, while Steve Carter, Martin Busby and Ernie Howe (with an own goal) made it five before the hour mark.

Although Alan Slough managed to grab a consolation, it was still a very impressive result from Ron Fenton's side.

Here are the highlights from that game if you fancy having a look. Were you at that game? Let us know!

One of my favourite ever away days.  Craven Cottage was a great place to visit being situated right on the banks of the Thames, and the cottage in the corner of the ground was a unique feature, and the Supporters Club always ran a train excursion to away games in those days.  It was the only time I ever saw George Best play live, even though he was a stone overweight due to his drinking his utter class was unmistakable.  He had such balance and control that a drop of the shoulder could still leave players on their backside wondering which way he went.  His attitude struck me that day also, even at 0-5 he was giving his all, whereas Rodney Marsh barely broke sweat, content to just do a few party tricks.  Bobby Moore had a poor game and looked a shadow of the player who captained England to World cup victory.  Brilliant memories.

Watching those highlights made me get goosebumps.

How classy was some of the goals scored there! there was some right crackers. Obviously I am too young to recall the game but I have heard about it from various fans (including my grandfather) - I just haven't seen the highlights until now. Mick Vinter was a very good striker and had a decent record with us plus other clubs.

One of the best games during the incredible run Notts had back then.

I recall the game well.

I was there, it was a great trip. Gordon Mair made his debut that game, he came on from the bench. It was also good to see some of Fulham's ageing stars. Great memories!

I wish Fulham had lost their last game 5- 1.

It was a quality team, the bones of which played together for many seasons.  Mick Vinter was on fire that day🔥 and that Steve Carter goal was pure class. Legends one and all.

@Elite_pie@allardyces tash A memorable day, I was there too...A few years later, I worked with the guy that did the Fulham match programme and he said if he ever heard a mention of Notts, his brain cells would engage and default to this match!!!!

Is this also the last time we won them? How teams establish themselves as good clubs seems something indifferent to Notts County.
