World Cup memories

Featured Replies

Well for me that’s got to be the World Cup final in 1966.

I think I’ve told this story on here before, I was 14 at the time, my parents weren’t in the least bit bothered about football and chose the very day of the final England v West Germany to go on holiday to Southsea, we arrived at our digs and the landlady and her husband were watching the match on tv in their living room we were busy unpacking, she kept popping in to tell us the score, I was praying she’d say I could watch but she didn’t, I have seen the match since but I’ll always remember that day, especially when she came running in to tell us we’d won the World Cup.

Some classic memories being shared here, I can recall Paul Gascoigne trying so hard to keep England in the World Cup - then ultimately displaying the best passion when he broke down into tears after being knocked out.

The fact it clearly meant something to him, it connects with you.

I always felt he should have been in the World Cup squad of 1998, if we had him - I think we'd have gone further personally.
