Ratings Notts v Colchester

Based on Piethagoram's mean of 5

Fitzsimons 5.5 Not a confident looking performance but kept an important clean sheet. Nearly cost a goal with an errant kick and always look to release the ball to feet.

Tootle 5 Subdued in its own way. Couldn't get into his normal attacking positions

Duffy 4 Took a yellow card for the team, usual rounds of verbal rollickings  handed out, some for no real reason but to hide his own shortcomings

Brisley 4 Both centre backs looked weak and his distribution was abysmal at times (despite reading some had him for MotM)

Jones 4.5 improvement from his debut at Coventry , some good balls in but needed too muck at the back which blunted attacking intentions

Boldewijn 5.5 Some nice touches but it is down to the failure of the defence to get the ball to him

Hewitt 4 Just look at Pell for Colchester as the player we needed. Hewitt's pass completion rate found lacking again and maybe Nolan has a blind spot with this player

Vaughan 5 Unconvinced, yes some neat passing but it doesnt help if Hewitt doesnt make himself available to receive

Thomas 6 Nothing to write positively in the first 30 minutes but suddenly grew into the game. Unlucky not to score

Stead 4.5 Lack of pace increasingly obvious and one wayward shot.

Hemmings 5.5 at least held up the ball well to try to work positions

Fitzsimons 6: average performance but looked confident

Tootle 5.5: he worked hard and did well

Jones 6: Good going forward, crap at the back but he just seemed off

Boldewijn 4: Awful, he seems kind of lazy to me

Hewitt 5: did well and tried to get the players moving forward

Vaughan 6: He played well

Thomas 7: Worked very hard and contributed

Stead 3: awful

Hemmings 6: did well but was marked heavily unlike his strike partner who did nothing.

Based on 6 being a standard performance:

Fitzsimons - 6 - a clean sheet but he just doesn't inspire confidence in me.

Tootle - 5.5 - a bit sub standard, offered little going forward.
Duffy - 6.5* - positionally good, didn't do much wrong.
Brisley - 6.5 - generally defended well.
Jones - 5.5 - as usual, looked better in their half than when defending.

Boldewijn - 6 - the odd bright moment but his touch let him down.
Vaughan 6.5 - kept possession well, nothing incisive though.
Hewitt - 6 - average.
Thomas - 6 - good in parts, but his corners were awful.

Stead - 5.5 - never offered much threat despite the poor service.
Hemmings - 5 - pretty anonymous. He is better than this.

Subs:

Alessandra - 5 - didn't do much in the time he was on.
Dennis - 5.5 - missed our best chance, but at least got in the right position.
Hawkridge - N/A

A poor performance and a poor game. There seemed no real pattern to our play, the build up was slow and ponderous and easy to defend against. No player stood out, with too many 5 or 6 out of 10 performances. Colchester looked a bit sharper but didn't create much in the way of clear chances either. Not a disaster as we at least managed a point, but a big improvement is needed.  Agree or disagree please give your own ratings, the more the better.

Fitzsimons 5 - he’s no better than Collin yet, nowhere near.

Tootle 5 - average at times but other moments he looked class.

Duffy 5 - he did better than normally

Brisley 6 - solid defending

Jones 4 - has an off day

Boldewijn 3 - he looked awful and so far off it.

Hewitt 5 - played better than most think

Vaughan 5 - he did well

Thomas 6 - better second half

Stead 4 - awful

Hemmings 5 - he did well but struggled.

To be fair I agree with some of the ratings but it’s the opening day of the season .. not as bad as some curtain raisers we have had.

Great to see the player rating feature return really do love this feature.

I think hemmings did better than boldewijn apart from the good shot from him.

This pretty much apart from the Duffy rating. I don’t like the guy and have no faith, but he looked out of his depth imo. The theatrics and the screaming do him no favours. Distribution was really poor. Look forward to seeing Ben Hall in with Bris.

Enzio 6.5 for trying to create in the first half. I think we have a good pair of wingers on board now so look forward to seeing them when the team is in full flow.

Fitzsimons 5 - Not a confident display and still think hes settling into his No. 1 shirt. Still think this 'special' signing needs to be a confident league experienced keeper.

Tootle 3 - Him and Boldewjin just didn't work in this game, Toots failed to utilise Boldewjins pace, poor performance from him.

Duffy 6 - Better of the players today and he played well just needs to shut his mouth.

Brisley 4 - Bang average performance and crumbles under pressure which forces the hoof ball.

Jones 5 - Put in a lot of effort but his decisions and first touch let him down today.

Boldewijn 5 - Purely for the fact Tootle had a bad game. He needs to released early and Tootle was not doing this.

Hewitt 5 - Real prospect at Notts and hes still only young'ish so I think he played OK just needs to fill the whole a bit more to close the channels.

Vaughan 7 - Deserved MOTM he played some lovely passes and really read the game. Tired towards the end but hes 35 so ill give him the benefit of the doubt. Well played

Thomas 6 Nothing to write positively in the first 30 minutes but suddenly grew into the game. Unlucky not to score. Went missing few times but his pace looks really good.

Stead 3 - Missing, filling in for an unfit Dennis. Credit the effort he puts in every time he steps out on the pitch though.

Hemmings 7 - Unfortunate as he can't play off Stead. Him and Dennis will be dangerous just needs playing to feet. Enjoyed watching him today.

@samwatto2008Disagree on "Hewitt 5 - Real prospect at Notts and hes still only young'ish so I think he played OK just needs to fill the whole a bit more to close the channels."

Never in his career at Notts has he looked capable of passing the ball well... Too much possession squandered in my book from him

this is the closest i agree with.

i think boldewijn did not do well, a 6 for me is inflated.

All about average for me which made for a performance below last season’s standard.

There was no point playing Stead up front against the tallest back 4 in the league. Much improved when Dennis came on in my opinion. I also think Thomas & Hemmings tried their best to make things happen. Other than one decent shot Boldewjin never got near the game.

The team still look disjointed to me. Yes, we have brought in new players but so have Our rivals for promotion & they seem to have hit the ground running.

I have a feeling this will be a transition season. I hope I’m wrong and we see a vast improvement soon or we could be playing catch up towards the end.

worst part for me was the corners and free kick. no pace on the ball at all, easy for defenders. now that we have a smaller side, must put ball in at pace, bit like Forte's hesder v Coventry in the league match.

With new system and more pace, expect us to do better away where we will have more space, but may struggle to break teams down at home.

Exactly what I said at the game.  Thomas seemed to take all the corners from both sides and mainly hit lofted balls which defenders love.  I'm not a great fan of Dan Jones as a defender, but last season he showed he is well capable of putting in a dangerous inswinging corner from our right.  As long as it beats the first man and has a bit of pace, it's much harder to defend than the floated ball.

This is very useful to see as an exiled supporter, the ratings will give me a further insight as time progresses to see which players are working hard and are performing well.

Please do keep them up.
