Kevin Nolan gone, so what now?

If you agree, disagree, wanted Kevin Nolan to do well.

It makes little difference now that he has been sacked, I was shocked when I loaded up PON's homepage and read the content titles about Nolan being sacked. After time I do see the reasoning behind it, it's not just this season but an accumulation of last season too.

However, since KN has gone, where does this leave the club?

What does the new manager need to do with this squad in order to make it a success on the pitch? Can a new manager be expected to turn the clubs poor start around quickly?

Whoever the new man is, he needs to get the players on board and turn things around pretty quickly. I think, even at this early stage, the play offs look a long way off, so plenty of work to do. He needs to sort out those who want to play for Notts from those who seemingly show little interest, and ask why they they didn't perform under Nolan. If he doesn't like the answer, time for them to move on. Easier said than done I realise, but I personally would rather see a team willing to battle for the club, and who hurt, like the rest of us, when we lose.Β

The new man needs to get the team defending properly as an absolute priority he also need to strengthen in three important areas goal, central defence and midfield, a target man striker would be nice too.

I doubt the budget will stretch to another striker, but we simply have to find someone that can take this team by the scruff of the neck and drag it forward. We all had doubts about Duffy being skipper and it is proving that this season is one too many for him (some will say 3 seasons).

When you look at the side, the lack of height is frightening, so whicheverΒ players come in, they have to be 6 foot plus as well ideally.

Alan Hardy needs to prove he didn't strike lucky appointing Kevin Nolan now, its a tough question and the candidates so far are less than appealing for me. I think the only reason some want Gary Bowyer is because he's the best one linked so far but that says something about the club.

I'm not impressed.

Is it a positive or a negative thing that players are still being linked to the club despite no manager yet being appointed? Is the Boyle speculation going to go cold now?

I think the first thing would be to appoint a new manager now that Kevin Nolan has gone.

These players being linked to the club will have to wait until the new manager has decided they're required, otherwise we are setting them up to fail because they might be able to get someone else - even someone more suited.
