Ratings Notts v Mansfield

Schofield 6 Rarely troubled as well protected from the defence in front. Only real fault was a punch for a ball perhaps he should have caught. One woeful kick

Rose 8 Has plugged the gaping hole at Right Back this season. Great length on throw ins and assured in defence

Stubbs / Barclay share  7.5 Never expected a young cenre half pairing to do it's job so well. What is impressive is how they move the line, to compress space, very disciplined, Stubbs vocal when needed

Milsom 7  Defensively did his job well, it's a case of no mistakes at the back, so not to get caught going forward

O'Brien / Doyle share 7.5 Maybe O'Brien had the better game but as a pair, they are solid in midfield and didn't flinch an inch

Boldewijn 7 Heavily marked so had one of his least effective games. One good shot on lay off by Gomis

CMS 8 Reminders of Lee Hughes work rate...Great shot for the goal but does so much winning the midfield balls

Stead 6.5 Ref didnt seem to give him any protection.

Gomis 5.5 Frightened their back line with his pace, but his lack of a good touch or shooting prowess ...perhaps I was expecting more from a Championship player

Subs

Hemmings 6.5 Couldnt connect with a great cross towards the end

Alessandra 5.5 Chose the wrong option on a couple of occasions, tends too lose the ball too easily

As a team, rating at 8..... we look like a team that can compete now...

I can't rate every single player because i wasn't there personally but from what i heard, everyone did their best today. A win against mansfield is great in itself.

Schofield 6.5 - Commanded his area very well, came for balls which good keepers do to relieve pressure. His distribution was okay.

Rose 7 - He gave a solid defensive performance, helped to take the sting out and worked hard. Looked better at the back for me.

Barclay 7.5 - Steady performance, really works well with Stubbs. No complaints from me.

Stubbs 8 - Rock solid, constantly communicating and doing what good defenders should do naturally.

Milsom 6.5 - A bit wasteful at times, ran himself into silly areas but he did well. He worked hard, if he didn't give the ball away so much, I'd have said 7.

O'Brien 8.5 - Outstanding performance and it was between him and CMS for my MOM.

Doyle 7 - Steady and reliable, I like him.

Boldewijn 7.5 - Worked hard, attacked but could have given more defensive duties at times.

CMS 8.5 - Worked hard, looked great and made himself known to Mansfield.

Stead 6 - Not his best game but he did alright, he gave the ball away at times but due to trying to force something when limited.

Gomis 6 - Awful on goal but he's got all the tools before that point, he works very hard and does well.

Sub

Hemmings 5 - I barely noticed him and I don't think he did as well because of the lack of influence on the ball.

Alessandra 5 - Looked awkward and lacking, he never settled into the game.

I could give them all a 10

Schofield 7 - Barely had anything to do. Winded up the Mansfield fans with his time wasting. Lovely

Rose 9 - Great defensive display. Won the ball back numerous times.

Stubbs 9 - Better than Tony Adams

Barclay 9 - Better than Steve Bould

Milsom 9 - Brilliant performance and looks so comfortable at left-back

Boldewijn 8 - Worked hard all game and defensive game has improved so much

Doyle 9 - Leader. Led by example. A superb midfield performance. Got into Mellis' head and the Mansfield centre-mid lost it. The guy is absolutely class. WE'VE GOT MICHAEL DOYLE, WITH JIMMY IN THE MIDDLE, HE NEVER GIVES THE BALL AWAY

O'Brien 9 - Him and Doyle won the midfield battle. Wins it back and gets us going on the front foot. A great coup

Mackail-Smith 10 - That goal was something else. Never stops running

Gomis 8 - Never gave Krystian Pearce time to play out from the back. Always a threat with his pace. His contribution was fantastic

Stead 8 - Always worked hard and did well up against Preston. Annoyed him a bit as well. Deserves a sip of fine wine and a superbly cooked dinner

Subs

Hemmings 7 - Movement was good and put himself about when he came on. Almost scored. Great to see him looking so happy at the final whistle

Alessandra 7 - Like Kane, came on and put himself about. Both bought energy to the pitch and helped us see out the game.

Ardley 10 - What a human being

The temptation is to give top marks all round, but this is my best alcohol related attempt at being rational:

Schofield 6 – hard to rate him, because he had very little to do. One wayward kick, otherwise fine.
Rose 8 – defended well and offered some good forward options.
Barclay and Stubbs 8 - I'm rating them as one as they were hard to separate. Mature beyond their years, won almost everything and when they got changed I think they would find Walker and Hamilton in the back pocket of their shorts.
Milsom 8 – our left seemed to be the focus of their attacks, but Milsom withstood everything they threw at him.
Mackail-Smith 8.5* - We’ve been regularly linked with him in the past and I always hoped we would sign him, but when we eventually did, I thought it might be too late. How wrong was I? He caused them problems throughout, and supplied the superbly controlled finish for the decisive goal. A great addition to the squad.
Doyle and O’Brien 8 – again I have to rate them as one because they offer the same - a calm head, a crunching tackle, and an always available option for the simple pass. Again, both of them are brilliant signings.
Boldewijn 7 – not everything came off, but he genuinely scares defenders. The opposition tend to double mark him which should free up space for others.
Gomis 7 – his willingness to run, chase and offer an outlet for a pass makes him a good forward option. Maybe needs to offer more goal threat, but looks another good addition.
Stead 7 – didn’t give them an easy afternoon, came close with a header and did his job.

Allessandra 6 – did ok in his short spell.
Hemmings 6 – missed a good chance but at least was in the right position. May still have a part to play.

A really, really enjoyable afternoon against them at last. Maybe they now know what it feels like when your team just don’t turn up, a feeling we are all too familiar with. Full marks to Neil Ardley who won the mental and tactical battle against Flitcroft hands down. The reality is that we are still 24th, but that can wait until tomorrow.

Schofield N/A Nothing to do. Someone should have given the poor lad a chair.

Rose 8 Assured is the best word to use. Dangerous going forwards

Stubbs 9 Didn't hear a peep out of their strikers, won everything that came their way.
Barclay 9 As per Stubbs

Milsom 7.5  Defensively solid, didn't venture forwards often.

O'Brien  8 - So solid, with some excellent balls.
Doyle 8.5 - Got under the skin of the Mansfield snowflakes, Grant in particular. Won the battle against Bish, but to be fair to Bish he had no help, whereas Doyle had plenty.

Boldewijn 7.5 Not really involved in an attacking sense, but did his defensive duties well.

CMS 8.5 Doesn't stop running. Fantastic goal.

Stead 7 Did well.

Gomis 5 His touch was so bad he set up CMS for a volley.

Subs

Hemmings 6.5 Close

Alessandra 6 Ran

Ardley - 10 - Tactics  and selection were all correct.

Ref - 3 - They should have had 9 men at the end. Bottled it.

Mansfield - 0 - how are they 3rd in the league?! Absolutely no fight in any of them, with Bish the exception. Grant smiling and having a laugh with his old mates Stead and Gomis with 10 minutes left was a particular low-light from a Stags perspective. Obviously they've played a lot better than that throughout the season, but I would expect teams playing them will look at their last 2 games, see that they don't like a scrap, and adopt that as the game plan, not genius stuff but will probably work.

Schofield 6.5 a couple of dodgy moments but a vocal presence at the back.

Rose 8.5 Another wonderful performance.

Stubbs 9 An absolute rock.

Barclay 8.5 Gets better with every game.

Milsom 7.5  Defensively did his job well and looked to push forward at times.

O'Brien 9 driven and passionate.

Doyle share 9 up to his old tricks. Nibbled away at their player ‘till he bottled out and was subbed complaining of shithosery.

Boldewijn 7.5 solid performance, worked hard.

CMS 10 work rate was 100% ..Great goal and does so much winning the midfield balls

Stead 6 can’t last 90 minutes, can’t hold the ball up, can’t win a header but he tries his utmost.

Gomis 5.5 great pace but his lack of a good touch or shooting prowess let’s him down. Looks like an U23 playing in a man’s game. Out of his depth, erhaps I was expecting more from a Championship player

Subs

Hemmings 6.5 Shame he couldn’t connect with a decent cross to break stags’ hearts.

Alessandra 5.5 Nowhere near his best.

Overall a brilliant performance and result. We really must start converting chances into goals!

We beat Mansfield for the first time in 384 years and you're giving ratings out of ten?!? Each player deserved 16,400 points and a 10-foot-high statue in socialist realist style putting up in the centre circle (would have to get it past the League and FA first obviously).

Better than burying someone in the centre circle, as one club did.
