Notts County took to the pitch at the Eco-Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon, facing Doncaster Rovers in a match that saw both teams battle hard but ultimately share the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Coming into the game, the Magpies hoped to maintain momentum from their recent performances. While they showed flashes of attacking prowess, Doncaster’s resilience ensured honours were even. Play began energetically, with Notts County aiming to make their mark early on. In the 13th minute, their intent paid off when Alassana Jatta opened the scoring. Rising above the defence, Jatta powered a header into the high centre of the goal, leaving Doncaster’s keeper with no chance. Providing the assist, Jacob Bedeau delivered a pinpoint cross that found Jatta at just the right moment. Notts County fans celebrated, hoping their side would build on the lead. Despite going behind, Doncaster responded with determination. They quickly applied pressure, and their efforts led to several chances. Patrick Kelly had an opportunity early on, only to see his shot go high and wide, and a series of blocked attempts from both Luke Molyneux and Owen Bailey in the first half underscored Doncaster’s persistence. Statistically, Notts County controlled the tempo of the game, enjoying 59.2% of possession. However, Doncaster was efficient with their opportunities, managing 6 shots on target compared to Notts County’s 4. The home side’s nine corners, compared to Notts’ three, highlighted their attacking pressure, particularly in the latter stages of each half. Both teams traded fouls throughout the game, with Notts County committing 11 fouls and receiving three yellow cards, while Doncaster had 13 fouls without any bookings. As the game wore on, Notts County struggled to capitalise on their possession advantage. Doncaster grew into the game and began to create more meaningful opportunities. In the 73rd minute, their persistence paid off. Jamie Sterry floated a cross into the box, and Joe Ironside made no mistake, heading the ball into the bottom right corner to level the score. It was a well-taken goal, giving the home fans something to cheer about and setting up a tense final quarter of the game. In the last 20 minutes, both teams continued to push forward, with Doncaster’s Luke Molyneux looking particularly dangerous. He came close in the 89th minute, with one attempt saved and another narrowly missing the target. Notts County also had their moments, notably through Matt Palmer, whose long-range effort went just wide in the 78th minute. As the clock ticked down, the physical nature of the game intensified. Jevani Brown was shown a yellow card in the 90+3’ minute for a foul, adding to the earlier bookings for Jacob Bedeau and Nick Tsaroulla. While Notts County pressed hard in the closing minutes, they could not find a breakthrough, and the referee’s final whistle confirmed a 1-1 draw. This match highlighted both the resilience and areas for improvement for Notts County. While they managed to control possession and score first, converting this dominance into a decisive lead proved challenging. Their defensive discipline also came under pressure, with Doncaster’s relentless attack forcing the Magpies into crucial saves and blocks. Ultimately, the draw leaves Notts County with mixed feelings – a point earned, but an opportunity missed to secure a win. With this result, Notts County will now turn their attention to the next fixture, hoping to convert their solid possession play into more clinical finishing in front of goal. I listened on the radio, it sounded like a great game and a fantastic advert for league two football, two good teams slugging it out. A point is a good result from Doncaster and it sounded like a fair result.8 points

good point, i dont think doncaster deserved a point and in truth a stronger bench i think we would have won it. thought we did very well in spells and maybe should have tried less to push for a second. we got punished for it and although they did well, they really did not trouble us enough.6 points

This was a match of two halves today. Notts were brilliant in the first half, especially in the first twenty five minutes. Some of the best football that Notts have played under Stuart Maynard. The side that Stuart has put together is playing as one all over the field. The move that lead to Jatta heading his tenth goal of the season was pure class at this level, & will rightly be a contender for Notts goal of the season. Doncaster, came back into it in the 2nd half and Notts had some serious defending to do, but apart from conceding the one goal, Notts looked solid enough & were well worth a point in the end. Stuart is rightly satisfied with a point & another difficult match has been ticked off with Notts remaining unbeaten away. Another tough match follows next week at Crewe, but I'm confident that Notts will give a good account of themselves there too. We are getting closer to the new year, when hopefully, Edwards, Jones & Grant will return to strengthen the squad.5 points

The game should have ended in our favour. Without Alex Bass, this might not have been the case, and I think defensively we hung on at times. I thought Doncaster looked far more organised this time around, but they didn't really play all that well. Notts did in spells, but failed to see out the game after a very good first half. Alassana Jatta's strike was brilliant. It's a shame we didn't create more chances, but we played well, just lacked at the crucial end, but it wasn't due to effort.4 points

We currently have a fair amount of injuries, so I think a draw isn't all that bad. We could have won the game, but going defensive could have seen us concede more than one goal. Notts played well in spells. I am not exactly sure how Doncaster avoided a single yellow card, but the referee did seem to favour them. Doncaster played okay, but not enough from them, and their fans made very little noise.4 points

Good result, I feel. I think Notts needed a second goal to see it out, and I think we tried to do that. Some fans kept calling for changes, but why risk Dan Crowley and still draw? There were not a lot of options to change things, and I think if David McGoldrick had been fit enough for selection, this game would have been something where he would have made a huge difference. The 70th minute mark was crying out for someone like him in the team, although I thought Jevani Brown did well. Unfortunately, I have no idea how he got a yellow for controlling the ball when a foul had been made on him.4 points

Brighton 2-1 Man City A fourth successive defeat for Manchester City. It is the first time in Pep Guardiola's managerial career he's lost four games in a row. It is also the first time Manchester City have lost four successive games in 18 years, since Stuart Pearce was manager. Pep under big pressure. The Owners won't be happy. Can he survive?2 points
-
Pep will more than likely Survive, at least till the end of the current campaign when his contract runs out, (don't think he's signed a New one yet?) because who would City replace him with? It's Not that the City owners have anyone lined up, what it will do is see how Pep copes without his World Class Players, he relied on in the past four seasons. And give Fans an insight to see How he Handles the Pressure. If things don't Improve or only improve a little expect a Massive Spending Spree from the City Owners in the January Transfer Window. City still have the 115 charges hanging over their head, the Results of which are supposed to be Announced at the End of the Season. If they go against City watch for a Mass Exodus from the Etihad of Pep Players and maybe the present Owners.2 points

Port Vale lost & Walsall drew today so Notts remain in the mix. I think the first half performance today was arguably the best under Stuart Maynard. The goal was a team goal of a very high class at this level. What is so different about this side this season is the defence, I've said it before & I'll say it again, if a team has a brilliant defence & a good goalkeeper between the sticks, they have every chance of success. Notts were under a lot of pressure in the second half but apart from the goal, they remained solid. Another game ticked off and we are closer to the new year when hopefully, Grant, Edwards, & Jones will be back to strengthen the squad.2 points

Shame the Magpies couldn't hold on for the Win and take all 3 points. But we can be happy with the point they got and Notts still sit Third in the Table.2 points

In their last home league game they lost 1-0 to Bromley and Crewe went there and got a 1-1 draw recently too so it's not like Doncaster have amazing home form. I do think at times playing away helps us because teams aren't just going to sit back, so we'll definitely have chances. That said if a team actually presses us aggressively we could really struggle like we did in the first half away at Barrow. Think Brown deserves to start, but I'm not sure he will. It would be daft to play AJ, Brown and Didzy from the off because then we can't really change the forwards. If Crowley and Austin are fit I think one of them will play behind Jatta with Didzy as he was rested against Alfreton. We're a bit short of options at wing-back, got to be Tsaroulla and Gordon here with our usual back three and keeper. We'll have a great turnout and we I think we are more then capable of beating them, even though they are a good side too. I think a draw would be a decent result.2 points

Will the Notts Unbeaten Away Record continue at Donny? You Know I Think it Just Might. Then again the record will End Eventually and Rovers could be the team to Do It. A Hard Fought Game which could go either way, and the Odd Goal may separate the sides at the Match's End But I'm going to Plump for a 1-1 Draw2 points

These Notts players are my shortlist for the PON Man of the Match. Brown, Austin, Bedeau, Platt, Jatta, Abbott, Bass, Macari.1 point

@Robbie I Don't Think Leicester could afford him. Plus would he be prepared to take a Big Drop in Money, then again would he have much of a Choice? If he does want to get out of Turkey? Or will he wait for a position that will pay him the Money he wants? I Think You're Right if Leicester do go for a New Coach, Big Sam and Neil Warnock, will be well in Contention at least till the End of the Season, even if they save Leicester from going down then as usual I think they'll be let go and the Foxes will Find a Full Time Coach for the New 2025/2026 Season.1 point

Another thing which May Work in Pep's Favour is the Fact Only Two Of Those Defeats have come in the Premier League. The International Break will also give City the chance to Regroup and they may get Injured Players back. Their Next two Matches are home to Spurs and Away to Liverpool neither an Easy Encounter, But has I've said Now we'll see how Good a Coach Guardiola Really Is.1 point

Sounded a very lively and decent game. We did well first half and then Doncaster came back into second half, felt like that goal was coming given the pressure they seemed to put us under. I think we were crying out for some changes or something to try and turn the tide in that second half. The fact we made no subs tells its own story and not a good one, do fresh legs in Martin and Hinchy weaken us, SM clearly thought so. And Crowley clearly wasn’t fit because you’d have bought him on to help us get control, makes you wonder why he even travelled. Feels like if we could’ve made a triple change like Doncaster did, we might just have got the three points today. Still, unbeaten and I thought a point was a good outcome beforehand, we’ll just have to beat them when they visit Meadow Lane!1 point

i thought jevani brown played very well and did some good defensive work, he played the role we expect from david mcgoldrick. its a shame he was not able to get some of his chances off as shots on goal but doncaster rovers did make it tight at the back.1 point

@Wheelbarrow repair man Not a good record though is it to have the longest losing streak in 18 years since Stuart Pearce was in charge. I'm sure that will rankle with Pep & the owners. The City fans are already in meltdown on social media.1 point

Full time. A great point for Notts. The draw confirms Notts County are the ONLY club in the EFL who remain unbeaten away from home...1 point

We do not know that state of play regarding injuries, but this would be my team if some players become available. Bass Macari, Platt, Bedeau Tsaroulla,Palmer,Abbott,Gordon Crowley, McGoldrick, Jatta. Subs, Mcdonald, Hinchy, Robertson, Martin, Brown, Austin, Slocombe. I think that starting 11 is the strongest considering the injuries we have. I think it may be a draw today. Possibly 1:1. A clean sheet would be even better.1 point

@Wheelbarrow repair man maybe Leicester City will be looking for a Manager soon if things don't improve for them although Big Sam or Neil might be in the running for that job too.1 point

An update on this Topic. Jose Mourinho has been Fined £15,000 and Banned for One Match for his Outburst about the Standard of Turkish Match Officials. The Turkish Football Governing Body declared that the Chosen One's Rant was, Contrary to Sportsmanship, Sport Ethics or the Concept of Fair play and were Diminishing the Value of Football in the Country. At the Moment Mourinho's Employers Fenerbahce, haven't commented on the part of the Out Burst regarding what Mourinho said about the Club's President. It would seem to Me that the Chosen One wont see out his contract in Turkey, and He is looking for a Return to the Premier League.1 point

Last season they were poor, and they've not really signed many players, but they should be more of a threat with Billy Sharp involved. They have several loan players who make things interesting. Teddy Sharman-Lowe is a good keeper; he is gaining further EFL experience with Doncaster having been loaned out by Chelsea previously to smaller teams. He's of good height, and ability. He should be a big improvement over Ian Lawlor, who didn't have his best game against us last time round where we beat them 3-1. I thought Doncaster was actually lucky to score, they were just a team that looked out of sorts and very beatable. Much of their defence is still the same, which was their biggest weakness, but I do think they will be a lot tighter this time round. Whilst I don't expect them to be much of a passing side at the back, I think we should get chances and the game will come down to who takes them. 2-1 (us), 1-1 seems much more likely.1 point

Can't disagree with what you've said @Wheelbarrow repair man A minimum of eight home players in a squad of 25 doesn't mean they'll be any home players in a PL eleven. It would be better to have a minimum home player number on the field at any one time. If it were me making the rules that number would be at least six, to ensure home players have the majority at all times. I would also ensure that there is at least one home grown coach on any first team coaching staff in the PL. It may be an assistant first team coach or Head Coach so long as there is at least one.1 point

Good morning it’s matchday, safe travels to those travelling to the match, I’ll be listening to Radio Nottingham whilst doing my jigsaw but first it’s also park run day and I’m off to Long Eaton in a short while with my son Chris who’s also running today so he’ll be at the finish to cheer me on, he runs a tad faster than me. Have a lovely day whatever you are doing. COME ON YOU PIES!1 point

An Interesting Question @Robbie. Strange as it may seem I came across a Comment in a Similar Vein. The Commentator stated that the EFL ( English Football League) Should be Rebranded as the FFL (Foreign Football League) because they believe there are to Many Foreign Players and Coaches within the English Game, which is True. Yes I am In Total Agreement with you @Robbie there should be a Minimum of English Players at every Club in the Premier League, you suggest 13, I'd say at Least 15 and there should in my Opinion a certain number of English Players in each Teams Starting XI. The Influx of Foreign Players and Coaches hasn't enhanced the English Game, it's only Served To Strangle Up Coming English Talent. Something we've discussed in other Topics. Clubs seem to be more than Happy to Pay anywhere from £10 million upwards for a Mediocre Foreign Player, rather than bring on English Talent at a Fraction of the cost. Another reason for this is also a Vast Majority of PL Clubs are also owned by Foreign Business Men, who Prefer to buy their Players from abroad rather than give an English Kid a Run in their First Team. The F.A must also take Their Fair Share Of The Blame, for allowing this to Even Happen In The First Place, But as No One at the FA has the Backbone to Say Enough Is Enough, and Adopt such Ideas that We and other Fans have suggested, then English Talent (Both Player And Coaching Wise) is Bound To Suffer.1 point

Doncaster are title contenders but this game is 50/50 I reckon. A win for Notts would be a statement victory. I'd take a point. 3K Notts fans is amazing.1 point

Listened to Stuart's pre Donny conference today, & he talked a lot about Jevani & Alassana, but not a lot about the game with Donny. He acknowledged that the match would be tough. Unfortunately, he didn't discuss about the current injury list, & who will be available this Saturday, out of those who are recovering from injury. Stuart is playing his cards close to his chest regarding who's available & I can understand that, but if 8 players remain unavailable, that will make it tough for Notts on Saturday.1 point
-
The game against Donny is definitely going to be Notts's biggest challenge of the season so far. However, I do have much more confidence in Notts to get a result in these type of matches nowadays. Much will depend on whether some of the injured players will become available again, players like Didzy, Dan & Scott Robertson. Even if they are not in the team, I'm sure Notts will still give a good account of themselves. Until we know a little more about the fitness of those players, I will hold back from naming my team for the match.1 point
