Weekly Chat - Monday 25th to Sunday 31st August
i just finished work. very average day, nothing exciting to mention. i did not go out for something to eat, i took a pack launch. i am a bit concerned about thomas (cliftonmagpie), and i would hope he does not mind me saying it. having him and his partner around the house is really nice, but he has not been the same. i wished @Joshua would come to games with me and @TheSkipper. it was really fun how we started going to away games, and i hope thomas will join us. i was always nervous about going to games by myself, but i did and its much better with friends. we have had so many fun journeys on the road, and met up at the occasional home game. i normally just turn up for when the gates open, but i did like having a drink before. i really hope thomas is okay. when you feel pain, just relax. it must be awful not being able to do anything about it. i hope you manage to have more better days than bad. that is nice! i tend to set aside a certain amount to spend on the club shop for a new shirt. if i dont buy a shirt, i will spend the money on other things like a training top. i bet the new home shirt looks awesome on you tone. i hope chloe enjoys her gift and her birthday. maybe you could find something you both have in common? if he likes playing guitar, could he play songs you like just to see that bond and interest come together, oooo nice! i hope you have a brilliant time in dubai. lets hope you go seeing notts claim 3 points. hope it all goes well and you manage to avoid the dentist all together from there, it sounds painful. 😥

Notts County squad 'needs reinforcements' - Paterson
"needs reinforments" makes it sound like its more than one. i would hope we avoid the loan market because we have more than enough already, and we need players who are more permanent. i dont think we are far from having a squad with good depth, but if we sign a defender and midfielder due to injuries, its only going to lead to questions why we signed them or what the doctor is doing. i know with matty platt out there is a rumour we are looking for a short term replacement, but surely we can make do with who we have? there has been no update on lewis macari, he was on the bench saturday and warmed up but is he allowed to play?

Scouting dossier : Have Charlton Athletic been looking at my recommendations
please bring them back, i liked reading even if i did not see anything in the player mentioned. its always the thought about them outside of notts and your scouting dossier posts were very interesting @Piethagoram, it would be nice if @ARLukomski joined in.

Progress Report
i think we have to remind ourselves of the good jason turner did, and how much his death has left us lacking. i dont know joe palmer, never spoke to him but it does not seem to be his priority to have a good relationship with fans. i never spoke to jason turner, and i took much of what he did for granted. his updates used to always make me feel closer to the club, which with palmers arrival i feel we have gone backwards especially in terms of the recruitment of other staff which he probably has less say on. i dont judge moving forward based on promotion, but where i feel the club is heading and this season is the first where i truly feel like we have stepped back. i wish nothing more than martin paterson to work, but the club has not helped him at all. there is more for us to learn from in this season and the one just past, than any of the previous ones because the club seemed to be moving in the right direction. sacking a manager for failing to gain promotion, then to hire someone with little experience and send the squad to germany without a complete squad or at least the majority seems quite narrow minded to think it would work. we did not seem prepared for this season and paterson will take the brunt of virtually everything and it seems unfair. the reedtz are doing well, there are areas they could do better but its the head coach position where i feel they should do better. stuart maynard was a somewhat experiemental appointment but with an encouraging cv. now we have gambled on someone who says he wants to win, but is being held back by not signing players in the right areas or priortiesing we are weak such as in goal and up front.

Questions, Questions.
the issue is the owners would not win if they spent all the budget on the squad, because people would soon want what other clubs have. notts had one of the best fan zones early on, beneath the top leagues and that is something we should be proud of. that had been a huge hit, its always busy on match days and must be generating a good whack of money for the club to use in other areas. maybe the club is focusing on these side projects as means to afford better players? i dont think they would put anything at the cost of the team or promotion. i have also heard more praise for how we are improving the infrastructure than i have heard anything about it should be spent on players.
-
Morecambe manager, perhaps Notts should have recruited from within?
morecambe only hired their manager because of the new owners being of the same religion, i hope it does not delay our ex youth team coach who i wish well. i do think morecambe are doing the wrong thing right now tho. i just hope i am wrong.

Nottingham tram extension
probably requests for more funding at the cost of no further development to the tram lines, just more unreliable transport.

The Challenge We Face
there is a lot of things that we need to factor in and improve as we try to gain promotion, its very difficult to do it without the backing of knowledgeable coaches, money and the right signings. someone told me the other day they spent over £200 to watch a premier league game, i am not sure i could afford that at a single price even though i have savings. so notts had to do whatever it takes to first keep us a family club, keep football pricing competitively and to spend money in more than just on the pitch. yes that should be the priority over other avenues but leaving no stone unturned means we should move in the right direction.

Everton's new stadium
as far as new grounds come, i do think everton has a nice stadium and it looks like its had the seats arched back to keep the sound in. a lot of modern grounds get it wrong, but i think this is one of the nicest and i do hope the fan noise is kept inside.

Breaking : County looking for a new no 1
that is what i thought, so my hopes coming into this was not as high as those who thought it was about mp.

Is There a Lack Of Shape to the Team?
are we playing to our strengths yet? martin paterson spoke about how he wanted the players to do this, and not only do we look out of shape at times. we still dont seem to have key players fit enough to play for 90 minutes. 5 games in we are seeing improvements, but most seem slow and counter productive with how we fail to defend. we struggle with headers when the defence dont have time to prepare and we dont defend as a team like we have previously done. the pressing to win the ball back or to get the secord or third ball back is missing.

Matthew Dennis Strikes Twice but Bromley Deny Notts County Victory
the improvements are there, but we need to see out games better. i dont know why we are so likely to concede other than roos does not build confidence. i do feel like notts are stubborn enough to believe all our problems will be worked out as things improve, but that just makes the expectations of promotion seem unlikely because we are settling for whatever the outcome will be instead of trying to change it. 5 games in we know we are better than this but it seems slow, and the team seems to prone to dropping off when it matters.

Who's your Man of the Match v Bromley?
i thought there was great sparks from jodi, until he was clattered. rod mcdonald looked comfortable, but matthew dennis got my vote.

Match Discussion: League Two - Bromley FC (A)
taking off jodi, barry cotter and nick tsaroulla seemed like a big mistake. we replaced them with two very inconsistent players so far, and i dont think keanan bennetts its someone to bring on when you have pressure and need capable defenders. the subs turned the tide and made the disconnection show, the performance until then i would say was better but we fell flat after the changes. what disappointed me the most was how lucky the Bromley goal was, we never get that type of luck but a draw does seem a fair result.

Who's your Man of the Match v Shrewsbury?
come on, lets beat 60 votes if we can. if you are reading and dont have an account on pon, just register and vote. you get bonus points for posting an introduction but you can keep your vote private. nick tsaroulla earned mine and i think its going to be impossible to beat him.

Notts County Cruise Past Shrewsbury Town with First Win of the Season
it was a very good performance, with improvements to make but that will come with more confidence. i thought we did very well to create chances and the quality of them made it difficult for shrewsbury town. very pleased with the win, i hope we can move forward from here.
-
Great to have Nick back.
its great to have nick tsaroulla back, hes a very good player and one of the standard outs from last seasons recruitment which all very much looked great additions. i am more confident personally in will jarvis than i am with kellan gordon. i hope gordon proves himself, but i dont think he was brilliant last season and he has been poor so far this campaign which is why we miss someone like tsaroulla because hes very direct.

Who's is your Man of the Match against Barrow?
if tom iorpenda could defend he would have got a lot more praise as he did not do that badly going forward. matt palmer is my man of the match, with sonny aljofree being the second. i thought rod mcdonald did well with stuff in the air but not so much with defending passes he should have booted away.

Jack Grealish . Season Long Loan At Everton.
i would have thought one of the top six teams would have thought about trying to make it a loan to buy move, he could do well with somewhere like spurs or chelsea. though i do agree with @Chris, that a return to aston villa would be magical. maybe when his contract runs out? i dont know how long is left on his city deal. imagine moving for 100 mil and then resigning to your former team on a free, that would be the ultimate way to stick it to pep. plus the experience gained whilst away could further help villa with their ambitions. though its a big signing for everton and i just hope they look after him, because he has the magic to produce goods for any team.

Game 3: Match Discussion: The Bluebirds (A)
yeah, it would be nice to pick some points up against barrow. they have adapted well to life in league two and do know how to shut down teams. at the same time they can go to the other end and score goals, so it could be a really tricky game for us. i am hoping we take a look at the squad and see who is 100% match fit, and choose to start them. we can use the subs to impact quality into the team, i am sure we can be good enough to select a more fitter based team that can give their all without it making us weaker.

Didzy Watch
it does not matter at this stage, but those who say the club should have stumped up what he wanted. didzy should not have said he wanted to retire here, that he did not want to be the clubs highest earner. i am sure the club offered him what they felt they could afford. personally, i think he did not have faith in us getting promotion this season and that could be part of why he moved on. i am glad hes doing well for barnsley.
