Trance Music

Now, I'm a very eclectic person, I love most kinds of music genres, but my favourite, for the sheer buzz it gives you, is trance music.

Β

Now, I'm of a very unfortunate age with regards to the dance scene - the golden age of dance music was, in my opinion, between 1998 and 2003. Some absolutely brilliant tracks came out, some brilliant DJs were making music and club nights, and Ibiza was at its peak. And during this time, I was a mere child.

Β

Then, in 2004, when I became 16 and could just about get into bars and clubs, dance music took a turn for the worse. Michael Gray - The Weekend, Uniting Nations - Out Of Touch, and Eric Prydz - Call On Me... all these were overly sexualised lumps of trash. Needless to say, trance music was as good as dead, dance music was in a coma, and other genres of music took over the mainstream.

Now, I didn't mind the hip-hop that was came out during that time, some quite good music came out. But come 2006 - incidentally the year I'd be going to university - and then the next big thing was indie. Dirty, stinking, loathsome, pathetic, dull, bland, boring indie music, played and sung by people who can barely play instruments, who look destitute, and who can't sing (Pete Doherty being within 100m of a microphone is a crime against music, him actually singing is a crime against humanity. Were all those people who lauded him being ironic?!).

Β

Music that you couldn't dance to. Pretentious nitwits who were part of bands whose names began with "The". You even had "The The". Bleurgh. it was horrendous. This period of emo hair, skinny jeans and hipster torment coincided with my three years at uni. Thanks, fate!

Anywaaaay, long convoluted rant over... since about 2009, dance music has steadily been supping on vitamins and supplements and minerals and waking itself up from that five-year coma, and after a 2013 laden with amazing dance music, it looks like we're back to the good old days! Thank god!!!

Β

Now... aside from wanting to know people's experiences with dance music - whether you're a 40-year-old who remembers the warehouse raves and acid house, or a 30-year-old who's done Ibiza in its heyday, or anything else, share your experiences - I'd also like you to get stuck in and share some of your favourite dance music videos!

Let's do this shizz folks! :D :D

Well I'm not a 30 year old or a 40 year old, I'm a 60 year old who remembers trying to "move like Jagger" at the local disco long before the song came out.

I only like rock, punk and ska music and the occasional metal band, so to me i cannot stand dance music. I'm not one for clubbing and never have been so its not really been hard to stay away from that type of music. I've always been the opposite to most people my age(now and when i was younger) I like to avoid clubs and pubs and would rather be either spending time with family/friends or out and about on a fun day out somewhere. I go to the odd gig, but that would be planned in advance and to a band i really like.

I apologise if I've alienated anybody with this thread, wasn't my intention. As I said, I like most kinds of music (with the exception of indie music, which I find pretentious and dull - rock and metal, now we're talking! In fact I'm going to go watch Soil and Skindred this weekend, with Steel Panther on the horizon later this year), but in a club, I truly feel there is no music more suited to making you feel good and jump around like dance music.

@tonyhateley - Post a couple of your favourite songs from when you were hitting the discos! You talking about disco, funk, motown, Northern Soul, that kind of thing? Those genres are actually experiencing a revival. There's a club night called "Bopp" which is hosted every Friday in a bar called Pandora's Box in town, and it gets absolutely packed every single time without fail! Here's one of my favourites from their playlist:

@Northants Pie - Cafe Del Mar, now that is a classic! I was in Ibiza in summer 2010, the place was lacking the buzz from the previous decade, it had a very much nostalgic feeling. Would love to go back there now that dance music's come alive again! Cafe Del Mar and Cafe Mambo were lovely though.

I'll chip in with a classic old CDM/CM tune:

I'm such a music fiend me :D

I'm with @GrannyPie and @tonyhateley on this @Joe Jones..I like a wide range of music and sometimes surprise myself by liking music totally outside of what I'd normally like.I guess it's an age thing too.It 's what you personally like for yourself that matters.

Not a big fan of Trance per se, but do like some electronic music. Been following this guy Tycho for a while now: here's the whole album The Science of Patterns:

Ha Ha brilliant response, personally for me as long as i like it I couldn't give a toss what others think, my cd collection ranges from Chuck Berry & James Burton to Armand Van Helden to Cavo to Nirvana to Bob Marley all the way to Edvard Grieg (now I don't think anyone will know him by name with the exception of @super_ram who probably knocked around with him back in the day... ha ha but they will by this track Β http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rh8gMvzPw0Β  Β )

true, i just cant stand it myself. especially the type of morons who bounce around in their cars and very loudly but hey each to their own. :P

I'm swaying with @liampie but I can respect (no dig at Liam) that someone people do like it and aren't always like those we think of when you consider this type of music. Similar to Punk and Metal I suppose :P

Those who sing something other than 'Posse' are extremely funny.

I'll ignore your cheeky chat @Northants Pie.I quite liked the 4 tunes you posted but not the one @notts-joe posted after.AsΒ  for Grieg, well yes ,I do like that.

I can't get into Trance music. It just doesn't sit with me and I can't get with the beat with songs sounding flat (Not in terms of key). I much prefer the alternating beat of Dubstep.

Β

Saying that, I much prefer indie/rock given the choice.

@Canadian WOW that looks immense! Names like Avicii, AVB, Sebastian Ingrosso... In Belgium though... hmm if I had the money...!

I'm tempted to try Creamfields this year.

Someone at work just let me know about this; http://www.tomorrowworld.com/register/ Lol i'm in heaven. Only 17 hour drive :)

P.S. I was a volunteer for the Escapade Music fest; http://www.escapademf.com
