I hope I'm jumping the gun and will be able to delete this thread, but the signs aren't good. So ... who would you like to succeed LW if he goes and who do you think the owners would go for?

Ian Burchnall has been seen at the Lane against Donny, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's in the frame - he's assistant manager at Wolves and might have been keeping tabs on Ollie Tipton, who played that day.

Any other ideas or names? 

It won't be Burchnall.  I reckon he was there about Tipton.  I don't see what returning brings to him, never mind us.  

I think it most likely that we will see someone from the NL, or someone in a similar position to Burchnall or Nolan at a Championship club.  One thing is a sure thing, they will be a modern Head Coach, as opposed to a Manager, they will be young and hungry and play a modern style of football.  Other than that.. who knows?!!

Who ever they choose may well be an upcoming young Coach who wants to play open football, but with a hint of caution too with a plan B if plan A doesn't work.

The owners have picked well up to yet and I'm confident they'll do it again.

Chris and Alex seem well prepared for any circumstance and I won`t be surprised if they already have a narrowed down shortlist which include some slightly unknown managers fitting their vision of open and dominating football.

I have no idea who it will be, but they normally go a bit left field. If I was to pick someone who like to play football and is ready for the move up, it would be Stuart Maynard.

How much does Steve Cooper really love the city of Nottingham, he’d have had a good pay-off after being sacked… Surely that can compensate for the fact we can’t pay him £10k a week…

I’m not really that inspired by anyone in the league below in terms of being at the same level as Luke Williams. Stuart Maynard is an interesting shout but the only memory I have of Stuart Maynard’s Wealdstone is how we beat them comfortably, twice. Was that just down to having superior players, surely a well-coached team would’ve done a bit better.

I really don’t know, though, it’ll probably be someone I’ve never heard of! ????

Paul Cook of Chesterfield could be considered. He guided Chesterfield & Portsmouth to League 2 titles 2013/14 & 2016/17 respectfully. He also guided League 1 Wigan to the title in 2017/2018.

Seriously doubt he would leave Chesterfield for us @Robbie, plus he doesn’t really fit with the obscurity of our last two selections. Would be an interesting choice though.

I reckon it is more likely to be another youth team / no. 2 appointment and not that old.

The current Manchester United Manager will have a lot more free time soon and would do well at a proper club!

Name thrown out there that I never thought about is Mark Bonner, sacked in November by Cambridge Utd. Could be thought of as being slightly unlucky as I’ve always considered them to be punching above their weight for the last few years.

I am very sceptical about Luke Williams leaving, but knowing my luck it will be confirmed the moment I post this.

Our media has the tendency of picking up on the rumours spread by pranksters. It might not be the case in this instance, but it's funny how it's meant to be announced yesterday and hasn't happened as of now. Notts might be delaying it whilst they secure a replacement, however, I think even that would be quite unlikely. The thing that makes me slightly nervous is how we haven't released any pre-match press conference videos.

We have at times this season seen them delayed, but this is the only concern for me right now which might back up this rumour. Swansea City might be closer to Luke Williams, but I can see it being similar to Ian Burchnall situation at Forest Green if true.

I don't think we have a game which would explain the lack of videos.

It sounds like they will take their time and things will carry on as usual.  For now JoB, Weal and Alves will be taking over ft team affairs.

Nathan Rooney - Formerly managed Bruno's Magpies in Gibraltar and has worked at Port Vale, Crawley, Blackburn and Fleetwood in coaching roles. Highly thought of in the game and a great up and coming coach

Andrew Crofts - Current first team coach at Brighton. Was on Oxford's wishlist before they appointed Des Buckingham. 

Paddy McCarthy - Current assistant manager at Crystal Palace. Former coach of their under 21's as well. Highly thought of at Palace

Stephen Bradley - Current boss of Shamrock Rovers. Won 4 league titles in a row and was close to the Lincoln City job a year or two ago.

Harry Watling - Current Rangers first team coach. Used to be at Watford and QPR. He was on Plymouth's shortlist recently 

we can say one thing is for sure, the reedtz wont appoint the next manager just so that they can be pally with an ex premier league player unlike alan hardy. so, that would keep all of the names like wayne rooney, frank lampard etc out of the picture.

i would not mind someone like gary rowett for a change instead of someone unknown.

i think whoever comes in needs to have something about them and some experience within life in the football league.

Now Luke has officially gone, I’ll back Stephen Bradley the current Shamrock Rovers manager. Ticks all the boxes in that they play the same style of football, press high and do it all in a 3-4-2-1 formation. And he’s done very well, you can’t fluke winning 4 Irish League titles in a row. On paper he seems perfect.

I don’t think it’s too unrealistic either. It’s also the end of the season in Ireland now, and surely, he’s achieved all he can there. Just be a case of how settled is he in Ireland...
