I think those people have the makings of a great team.

For the sake of balance @TheSkipper, Burton finished on 46 points that season, lost on the final day and stayed up due to the teams below them losing. If you finish on 46 points, nine times out of ten you're going down, especially in League One.

Focussing on his half-season at Burton doesn't really do him any favours, even when we consider that survival was the only realistic aim. What matters most now is how he performs with our squad and the higher expectations placed on him.

For me, it's a very poor appointment. For a club that revolves itself around data and stats, the glaringly obvious thing is his 25% win rate at Burton.

Yes, you could delve deeper into it, like potential problems within the club he was at, but their wasn't. Burton fans despised him and he was noted for his arrogance and celebrating a 3-0 loss (which confirmed their safety despite defeat because Cheltenham lost) on the final day at already relegated Fleetwood.

This isn't anything like Luke Williams. Williams had a low win percentage at Swindon, but Tim Sherwood was pulling the strings from up above and had his fingers in a lot of pies. Williams also had assistant spells at MK and Swansea, being influential in developing their style. Paterson was assistant at Inter Miami to Phil Neville, who failed, assistant to Michael Duff at Huddersfield who failed as they finished 10th with a squad that should've finished in the top 6.

The creation of the technical board leaves me utterly bewildered. It should be Paterson, Edwards, Slocombe, Rhodes and any additional staff like Alves or Collis. Gagliardi, Chris and Alex should NOT be involved with it. It does say "Ahead of each match, relevant people of the technical board will share views relating to tactical approach and team selection." I imagine this is everyone bar Gagliardi and the Bros.

The red flags are waving rapidly with Gagliardi at the moment. The quote "his success at Burton." WHAT SUCCESS? He won 5 in 20 and was hated by their fans.

Once again it feels like we're trying to be too clever yet again. With our structure, our recruitment of players and recruitment of head coaches. We're not going for the standout or obvious candidates or targets. We're trying to overcomplicate things when we don't need to. We had the chance of Des Buckingham, Luke Williams, Paddy McCarthy, Andy Crofts, Aaron Danks, Jack Wilshere, Michael Collins from Sheff Utd under 21's, Travis Binnion.

We had the chance to go and get the obvious targets, show ambition, throw our weight around as the biggest club in the league. However, instead we're trying to be too clever and at this point, stupid, because every season we do something that is overcomplicated or doesn't need doing, whether it's a structure thing, head coach appointment or player recruitment.

I’m trying to remain optimistic, but have to admit this appointment is underwhelming to say the least! It’ll be interesting to see what they say in the press conference tomorrow.

That being said, let’s give the bloke a chance and get behind him- you pies

I don't see why we are listing Joao Alves as another Assistant Head Coach. Surely "Senior" or some term of differentiation would make sense.

This will lead to people saying that there are too many cooks. (Too many cooks spoil the broth)

Notts just seems like they don't wish to make changes, due to giving Alves the promotion last season, but I don't see the issue. Having two assistants can be quite confusing at times.

@Chris Nothings been said but I wonder if the two will have separate remits to work on. For example the police have a few assistant chief constables in their forces.

Maybe a question by a reporter at the introduction of Martin Paterson's press conference could clear that up.

Just listened to his interview and from being 'who is this?' I'm moving toward 'very assured and impressive '.

Do you remember Stuart Maynard 's first interview? 'Like, look...'.

And then listened to Andy Flowers. It is all starting to make an awful lot of sense.

Relax and enjoy the ride!

What does the former Zimbabwean cricketer make of Paterson's employment? πŸ˜‰

Hmm, a good interview doesn’t equate to what happens on the field. I wonder what the players think? Their initial reaction was probably the same as most fans completely underwhelmed, hopefully we will get off to a good start and the players will learn to respect him and play for him. The first ten games will be telling.

Good question @Fan of Big Tone. The new signings will have been informed about the new structure and might even have known it was Paterson. Although if the latter had been the case, you'd have expected something to leak out.

The interviews are interesting. Andy Edwards or whatever his name is seems to be a smart cookie. Maybe he'll be the brains of the operation while Paterson's job will be to kick water bottles around the dressing room 😁

There’s a fair bit of negativity being articulated by sections of the fanbase, some of it on social media is embarrassing, ignorant and above all disrespectful.

Look back at the gangsters, egos and others with their heart in the right place who have took ownership of the club in the past.

The Bro’s having formed a highly successful, highly profitable football data analysis business, have decided to invest not only their money, but their data driven analysis into making our club successful.

They have a history of appointing no name managers who stand up to scrutiny, who have delivered for Notts, playing the football that has 10k through the gates.

The bookies and the media wind up the fans with long lists of names that were never coming to the Lane. The board take as long as it takes to know they have the right person who can partner their delivery of data driven technical analysis to improve the club and get us out of this league.

These sections of the fan base who articulated their frustration at Burchinall, Williams and Maynar’s appointment later ate their words.

Have faith in the project and get behind your team.

COYP!

The Notts website even got his name wrong. They've corrected it now.

Notts even said on the official site that we’re playing Cardiff City on Saturday. πŸ˜‚ That gave me a laugh. Just shows how easy it is for little mix-ups to happen sometimes.

i would not say i was disappointed because i know nothing about him, and i cant let that control my feelings. i had hoped we would go for someone more experienced, but i fully trust the club. i dont know why some fans are so quick to have silly reactions. i mean on social media, its the reason why i have not replied sooner because i hate it. its just the shortest, and most angriest comments. its like everyone is fighting to post the worst possible comment. i did see someone on x saying the brothers will regret it, that they refuse to put money in and that they are cheap states.

personally, i think most people should be able to do well with this squad. we have a far better team than when we got relegated. though, i wished we had that strike force now, as it would help jatta.

i hope martin paterson proves the doubters wrong. i mean those who are still moaning.
