  1. 1. Should Ched Evans be allowed back into Football?

    • Yes, he has served his time per the legal system, and it would be unfair to stop him plying his trade

    • Yes, as long as he doesn't play for Notts

    • No, he should not be allowed back. Footballers are supposed to be role models

Looks like Oldham are getting cold feet. I reckon he won't get a club any time soon. When is his appeal? Either he wins that and he's vindicated or he loses and he apologies for his behaviour, which might be too late.

It seems likely they're pulling the deal, supposedly 'sponsor' issues again.

The radio (BBC Nottingham) have been doing a segment/discussion on this, they compared him to Lee Hughes. There's a huge difference between a reckless accident and this, I doubt he will win his appeal. They've mentioned Hartlepool have also shown interest?

He must wait until his appeal(s) is/are finished in my view.

Lee Hughes had spoken to the victim's family before resuming his career and wanted to get on with his life. Ched Evans on the other hand has shown no remorse and is still waging an aggressive PR war against the victim. I wasn't thrilled about Hughes joining at the time but Evans would be impossible to stomach.

I'd prefer him not to join a league one team mainly because he would have to come to notts. I don't think he will get to sign for a team in this country, i'd hope he doesn't. Anyone else would have to work much harder to get their life back after that and so should he. He can't just carry on from where he left off.

I think there should be a rehabilitation kind of program where he works one year on minimum wage, and does some kind of charity work aswell....

Not a single club from the Football League’s bottom two divisions has said they would definitely be willing to sign convicted rapist Ched Evans.

Sky Sports has contacted all 48 clubs from League One and League Two, and 14 of them put on record that they would not be interested in the former Sheffield United and Wales striker.

Oldham remain in discussions over a possible contract for Evans, who was released from prison last October after serving half of a five-year sentence for raping a 19-year-old girl in 2011.

Some 22 clubs from both divisions refused to comment when contacted by Sky Sports News HQ, while 11 clubs are yet to respond to our question.

League One

In talks â€“ Oldham

“No†– Chesterfield, Coventry, Crawley, Fleetwood, MK Dons, Notts County, Peterborough, Port Vale, Sheffield United

Declined to comment â€“ Bristol City, Crewe, Gillingham, Preston, Scunthorpe, Swindon, Walsall, Yeovil

Yet to respond â€“ Barnsley, Bradford, Colchester, Doncaster, Leyton Orient, Rochdale

League Two

Declined to comment â€“ Accrington, Bury, Cambridge, Cheltenham, Dag & Red, Mansfield, Morecambe, Newport, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Stevenage, Southend, Tranmere, Wycombe

Yet to respond â€“ Wimbledon, Burton, Carlisle, Exeter, Shrewsbury

Well done Notts and the other clubs saying no loud and proud.

@hissingdwarf

That is very interesting to see, I bet those who haven't replied are considering it. The whole thing is getting on my nerves, the media are awful towards banging on about it.

If people knew someone that has suffered from this heinous crime and the actual lifelong problems it causes them then there would never be any room for rehabilitation, these scumbags would be locked up for life, committing such an offence isn't like nicking a car or having fights in the street it is the biggest form of abuse there is aside from that of a child

Been offered a contract at Oldham. Destined to score his first goal back in the last minute against us at the end of the month...

They've actually gone in for him?

Their spokesperson mentioned they had didn't to decline offering him a contact yesterday, this would be even more desperation by them. I do think he should be able to continue his career, yet he should start within the basement and earn that right to continue.

Looks like it is going to be confirmed.

Sponsors pulled out, the owner was also a director. He wants nothing to do with either, which I say go on him!

For me the rules with regard to playing again, given the position footballers hold in society (especially the more famous ones), should be nigh on the same as those for the police.

I hope the sponsors kick off and do terminate contracts and they suffer financially.

Bad move.

Oldham sponsor cuts ties with club over ‘imminent signing’ of Ched Evans

• Verlin Rainwater says support ‘would send out wrong message’
• ‘His previous behaviour may influence the next generation’
• Oldham set to make announcement on Thursday
• Marina Hyde: Evans case shows the law is an ass

One of Oldham’s sponsors has severed ties with the club due to what it called the “imminent signing” of the convicted rapist Ched Evans.

Verlin Rainwater Solutions says it will no longer be associated with Oldham, who are expected to make a statement about the 26-year-old striker on Thursday.

Discussions between the League One club and the Professional Footballers’ Association have continued over a possible signing of Evans, despite vociferous opposition.

Craig Verlin, a director of Verlin Rainwater Solutions which sponsors a stand at Boundary Park, said in a statement: “After receiving the news regarding the imminent signing of Ched Evans it is with great regret that Verlin Rainwater Solutions will no longer be associated with Oldham Athletic.

“We would like to take this opportunity to make clear that we feel that Mr Evans should be able to lead a life without further punishment after serving his sentence, although our feelings remain the same that this should not be within the public domain where his previous behaviour may influence the next generation.

May I be the first to congratulate Mr Verlin  :clapping:

Just a pity the Oldham chairman doesn't have any morals

Has he done his time?

Evans is out on parole and could be sent back if he brakes the conditions set for him. He is supposed to be doing his remaining time in the community as a reformed character. That is why he was unable to go to Malta.

In making the comparisons between Evans and Hughes  it should be remembered that Hughes was stupid, got drunk and drove his car....

Evans with help from 3 others - set out to get the girl drunk and have sex with her. It was not an accident,

Don't agree with the use of threats as detailed below, but hopefully now the whole matter being put to bed and Evans being left out of the football league until such time as he shows some remorse for his actions and apologises.

The club has come under increasing pressure to turn its back on Evans

Oldham Athletic's deal to sign convicted rapist Ched Evans is off.

Oldham Athletic Football Club confirmed to Sky they reneged on a deal to sign Evans despite pushing it for the last four days.

An Oldham director has claimed that board members and their families were threatened during talks to sign the convicted rapist, according to Sky's Paul Kelso.

The football club had come under increasing pressure to turn its back on Evans with tens of thousands of people signing an online petition, local police and politicians voicing their concerns and the club's main sponsor ZenOffice threatening to pull out if they signed him.

The Wales international has been unable to find a team since being released from prison in October after serving half of a five-year sentence for rape.

Oh Dear me....http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jan/08/gordon-taylor-ched-evans-hillsborough-pfa

Part of the financial loss Oldham were to suffer was going to be mitigated by funding from Evans family and that of his Partner.

And the whole bloomin mess rumbles on and on...http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/oldham-athletic/11334487/Ched-Evans-mob-rule-card-is-a-cheap-trick-by-an-unrepentant-rapist.html

The less said about Gordon Taylor the better, Clive Efford's Sky Sports interview hit the nail on the head perfectly
