Academy duo take caretaker control of first team matters on a temporary basis...

Notts County can confirm that Acting Academy Manager Paul Hart and Head of Academy Coaching Mick Halsall will take temporary charge of the first team whilst the club looks for a permanent successor to Shaun Derry.

It was announced on Monday that Manager Derry and his Assistant Manager Greg Abbott had parted company with Notts and the process is already underway to find their successor at Meadow Lane.

However, with a crucial Sky Bet League 1 game at home to Scunthorpe United this weekend and the need to maintain the day-to-day running of the first team squad, Hart and Halsall have been asked to take on the role of caretaker management team in the interim period.

The duo have a wealth of managerial and coaching experience, with Hart, a former Notts County player, having held the top job at the likes of Nottingham Forest, Barnsley and Crystal Palace and Halsall one of the most respected youth coaches in the game.

It was felt that their experience would be key to helping guide the first team squad through this important interim period until a new permanent Manager can be found.

The club will be making no further comment on the managerial situation at Meadow Lane until the recruitment process has been completed and an appointment has been made.

I can't believe they haven't got someone lined up, surely that would have been better to get someone sorted before they sacked Derry and Abbott, it just seems to me they thought they'd had enough so sack them then they think to their selves "oh we need a new manager, better start looking"

Having said that Hart and Halsall seem the logical answer to take charge of the team, plus I think they will have the respect of the players. They might as well give it to them till the end of the season, I can't see anyone coming in and doing any better at this late stage.

As expected, they haven't got anyone lined up.

100% clueless on how to run a football club. How did Ray even make his millions?! Lottery?

What an absolute shambles we have become again, there are quite clearly some very good business brains at Notts but not ONE decent football brain, we've got this pair of muppets for a yet undecided amount of time then we will give it to the cheapest person out there.

Sum up Notts in one word...

This might work in our favour. They know the club. An outsider would take time to settle and we could be relegated by then.

Good luck Paul and Mike. We're not down yet, So Let's at least give some kind of Light in here please.

Might boost the players to get over the finish line, Especially with Spencer coming back into the Frame.

They might pick the right Formation and Tactics? Who know's

Irrespective of what we think of the appointment we are Notts fans and have to get behind them and the team.

It's sensible but I hope, that if we do win a few games we avoid offering him the position full time.

He's a great bloke and manager, I just want someone steady and who can be seen as hanging onto the role for a few seasons. I do think we can expect this of Paul and all his previous experience comes from working with much better budgets. Either way, the outcome will always come with my full backing but as I say it's sensible and no real surprise to be found here.

Not happy with Paul Hart being in temporary charge at all. Of course I want Paul and Mick to stop us from being relegated but I don't want hart in charge on a permanent basis. I'm surprised nobody was lined up before sacking Derry & Abbott .

I think this has to be looked at as what it is a temporary stopgap. Even if they pull off the difficult task of keeping us up we need a permanent man who can look forwards. Hart has my backing for the stopgap bit, but not on a longer contract. The sooner we get a new guy in the better.

At the end of the day, Ray has let it go this far. He could have pulled the trigger two months ago tbf.

Hopefully some of the current out of work managers have been sounded out already meaning all Hart needs to do is steady the ship.

I am hearing he will be given the task to manage us until the end of the season.

This will be a huge mistake in my opinion, we have 3-4 very good options waiting in the wings and if we can attract either of them it would make sense to allow them to get an idea of what needs to be done as early as possible. Harry Andrews took two swipes at Derry and Notts on Twitter recently, both tweets have been deleted but he suggested Hart would be the cheaper option.

Sensible for the odd game, not a answer to a problems though.

I think it makes sense but I am in your boat, I agree that Paul could save us but on a permanent basis is not the answer.

Then again, if he wins a few games and things look rosy who knows!

I hope it doesn't end up a permanent thing, No disrespect to PH or MH but, I wouldn't want them given the gig full time...

It'll do for this season, no longer...

It seems some portions of the fans want the academy managers behind the first team, I would only judge them on results and then it would have to be right. Lets not go down the CK route again!

Paul Hart should do okay, he knows the game and can work with the youngsters. Without seeing him in charge, I don't think anyone can write him off. It will be interesting to see what happens if we do win under him!

Short term answer? absolutely.
