Pets at Christmas

Do you buy your pet a Christmas present? Apparently it's big business these days with thousands of pounds being spent on pets at this time of year.

I've just heard there is a Santa's grotto for dogs in Mansfield where you can take your dog and have a picture taken with "Santa Paws"! Would you take your dog?

We haven't got any but we have in the past bought our various cats Turkey Whiskas for Christmas Day as opposed to the cheap cat food we normally bought.

It's becoming more popular in Ireland. Santa Paws is used to raise money for animal shelters. It's an important source of income for these shelters. I feed 8 cats, they are semi feral, they'll get a feast of leftovers.

I hear @GrannyPie has got @super_ram something but I do not own a pet myself.

I would stand by my comments in the discussion we had awhile back regarding this, it's good to involve pets but the way some people are going, it's just a little cringe-worthy and sad. The other week whilst in Bulwell, I noticed a women walking a skinny little dog (which had a festive jumper on) and she just tied it up to poles and things when she would go inside shops.

I think people who say it's silly misunderstand the relationship a pet can have with its family. For us both our dogs are like two more children. They are treated with things throughout the year though so the Xmas thing is just doing like other commercial ventures do at any celebration...focusing on the money!

Will get both the dogs a new bone etc... but they won't be walking around in silly hats or festive jumpers!

There's nothing against that.

The people who treat them like babies, push them in pushchairs, carry them instead of walking etc are silly. Families who treat their pets as an additional family member is the right way, especially compared to those who treat pets as just a side attraction or as props.

It's all for the benefit of the owners. Animals don't give a stuff about Christmas, with the possible exception of dogs if you put chocolates on the Christmas tree ...
