harsh on schofield, he made three top draw saves imo but he seems he cant win.

o brien and milsom played very well, they stood out and would be in for my man of the match.

No goals went in so id say schofield deserves better than a 6.5.

Milsom for once actually did ok and the defence at least helped.

Schofield atleast 8.5 deserved man of the match played great I was sat behind the goal when the shot that was offside went in and what a save

I’ll do this once I can get on my laptop, my phones 20% and I doubt I will be able to do it without it dying. 😂

Schofield 8 - Best player by a country mile. If it wasn't for him, Vale would have won 3-0

Rose 4 - Bloke has forgot how to defend recently. First touch is appalling

Stubbs 7 - Dealt with Pope well

Barclay 7 - Dealt with Pope well

Milsom 5 - Lapses of concentration at left back allowed Vale in a few times

O'Brien 5 - Played like he was on Red Bull in the first half. Bypassed with long ball after long ball meaning him and Doyle couldn't influence the game

Doyle 5 - Same as O'Brien, minus the Red Bull

Boldewijn 4 - Rarely impacted the game. How he was voted MOTM was absolutely absurd

Gomis 5 - Tried and made two very good runs in behind in the first half

Mackail-Smith 5 - We didn't use him enough like we did against Lincoln and Mansfield. When we get the ball to him, he actually looks like he might do something

Stead 4 - Let's fall on my arse, on my arse, let's fall on my arse, du du du du du du du du du du, let's fall on my arse, on my arse, let's fall on my arse

Subs

Hemmings 5 - Tried when he came on. Times when he should just shoot instead of passing. Can tell he's carrying a bit of an injury

Alessandra 5 - Looked lively. We need this bundle of energy every game from Lewi

Ardley 4 - Too much hoof not enough balls in behind. Need strikers running and closing down their centre-backs. No point playing hoofball when you have quick strikers and you've got Doyle and O'Brien in midfield

Mean of 5

Schofield 5 Couple of good saves, but glued to his line on crosses and Vale had him worked out.

Rose 4 Rubbish

Stubbs 8 Did well against Pope

Barclay 5 Dodgy

Milsom 5.5 Fine

Doyle 2 Get off set-pieces.

OBrien 2 Rubbish

Enzio 1 Crap

CMS 6 Kept going and tried to do something.

Stead 4 Too slow and cumbersome.

Gomis 0 Not a footballer.

Subs

Hemmings 4 Crap

Alessandra 5 MEH

Ardley 1 - What were the tactics? Vale play hoofball to Tom Pope so we'll play hoof ball to Gomis? Absolutely useless.

Schofield 7.5 - Communicated (defence wouldn't listen), made match winning saves and did overall very well.

Rose 4 - He played well in spells, but looked like a mistake waiting to happen.

Stubbs 6 - Lead well, but was a bit glued with his movement, generally did alright.

Barclay 5 - Average, nothing really impressive.

Milsom 7 - Better going forward, defended okay - a little messy at times, but generally the best defender by a mile.

Doyle 5 - Passed it around well, looked comfortable breaking up play, but nothing all the more special.

OBrien 7 - Defended very well, got forward and put some excellent passes together. He was by far the better creative outlet.

Enzio 4 - Looked sluggish and uninterested most of the time, combined with Gomis the pair was just very clumsy.

CMS 7 - He made a nuisance of himself, ran for the ball, covered and defended. Just a general hard-working performance, but nothing all that flash in truth.

Stead 4 - Brilliant first half, below average in the second. He looked very tired and ineffective once sussed.

Gomis 3 - Just very wasteful and clumsy, the worst starting player and he just screams out as someone to come on from off the bench.

Subs

Hemmings 4 - Average, slowed down the game and took good chances away from being something entertaining.

Alessandra 3 - He just never got going and likewise with Hemmings, he was very wasteful.

It was painful to watch, but at least we didn't lose.

Schofield made some excellent saves and deserves praise for them. However, his decision-making, especially with crosses, is dodgy and the opposition are clearly targeting that by putting in lots of crosses. His wild goose chase towards the corner flag in particular could easily have cost us a goal.

I'm not sure I agree that Tom Pope was well marshalled either, as we gifted him two free headers inside the six-yard box. That he didn't bury them both was more down to luck than judgement.

I agree with @Super_Danny_Allsopp that Doyle shouldn't be taking set pieces. They seem to hang in the air for ages, making them predictable and easy to defend against. Which fits in with the rest of our attacking efforts too. We're not overly blessed with heading ability anyway, so why did we insist on banging the ball over the top? CMS's workrate is excellent but he hardly ever had the ball at his feet, the poor bloke. And Gomis' touch continues to let him down. His pace can get him into good positions, but he has neither the touch nor the composure to make it count. I can't comment on his finishing as he's invariably lost the ball before he can shoot, which speaks volumes really. I'm hoping that once he gets a goal from somewhere he'll settle down, but I can't see it right now.
