Pricing key players and recruiting replacements

Notts appears to be attracting interest in players and replacing them will prove be the ultimate test for the clubs recruitment policy.

What value do you put on the following players?

I am also wondering if you feel we can afford to let any of them go and if so, how does Notts replace them without losing momentum?

Ruben Rodrigues
Kyle Wootton
Cal Roberts
Richard Brindley
Dion Kelly-Evans

I have avoided asking about players who have suffered injuries, plus players that have signed this season. I think the 5 mentioned are the most likely to attract interest from clubs willing to spend a fee to sign them.

Evaluating the players is difficult, because they're only worth what people are willing to spend on them.

I do like how Ian Burchnall insists that they're our players, but the club will have in mind what price would be tempting and, I would imagine we'd try to negotiate the best deal possible. This said, my value won't likely be what the club might seek, but it is what I would ask.

Replacing them is difficult. There is a chance we might be able to swap players, but obviously, this could come at the risk of devaluing any player.

Until a player sold, I won't personally worry about replacing anyone - yet the club clearly has their own eyes on players.

Ruben Rodrigues - £500k to £1million
Kyle Wootton - £750k plus sell on clauses
Cal Roberts - £500k due to his injury issues
Richard Brindley - £250k to £300k
Dion Kelly-Evans - £20k to £75k

It will be interesting to see what others price the players at themselves.

I agree with this evaluation of the players, if we want to keep him its got to be the top end.

Cal Roberts could go for more than £500k, it all depends on this season, how many goals he gets and if he can stay fit. The club has to market the players value based on how important they're to us.

Allowing players to leave moderately cheaply has haunted the club in the past.

if the clubs allows ruben to leave on a free or less than £1m then i would be disappointed.

Right now as Woots contract is up in the summer I don’t think you’d bid, just sign him in the summer. So that’s a current value of like 30k or nowt.

I’d put Ruben’s current value at £300,000. Then in the summer you’re probably looking at a drop as he’ll only have a year left.

In a weird way we are sacrificing Cal’s natural position so Ruben can play in his, I think he’s having a decent season without really shining. I think he’s value is less than Ruben’s, so £250,000.

Brinds, I don’t know, you kind of feel the big fee’s are reserved for the game changing players. Maybe if £50,000 – £75,000.

D-KE, again as his contract is up the summer, 10k or just wait and get him on a free.

I'm basing my values on the sales of the likes of Tshimanga, Sorba Thomas & Sonny Carey... I don't think anyone else has been sold for a large fee, but equally none of them went for anywhere near £1 million...

If we allow Kyle Wootton to leave on a free, it will be a huge mistake.

I wonder if Cairo Mitchell was purchased as a replacement?

If all had 2-3 year deals, I would agree but three of them expire at the end of the season. :(

Based on today's prices and contract status. Looking at the market, nearly all the suitors would be from League 1 and there isn't that much money kicking around, apart from the biggest clubs.

Clubs won't pay an astronomical fee for a Kyle Wootton when they can get him free in the summer. It then doesn't make sense for Notts to let him go for a mediocre fee, as it'd likely impact any chance Notts have of getting promoted.
