  1. The outcome wasn’t bad, it would have been a valuable experience for the young players who came on around the 75th minute. For the first team, we need to be mindful that we didn’t field what would be our starting XI. Jodi Jones came on in the second half and David McGoldrick isn’t young enough to lead the front line. I hope he can contribute more this upcoming season but if it turns out like the majority of last season, I hope others are chosen ahead of him. This is what pre-season is about - gaining match fitness and getting the players back on the same wavelength. It’s about creating good opportunities and delivering decent performances.
  2. The problem is that at the start of every season a young player is promoted and hyped up, we had this with James Sanderson and many before him. He appears to be a great talent, but I don’t think Notts does enough to further develop our young players’ abilities. At least not in the right way, they may play a few games in their tim, but the end result is always them being released. It’s disappointing that the academy does its best, only for the first team to sideline them or underutilise them.
  3. I think you’re correct, @Chris. It appears that the main entrance is opposite what used to be Argos. I wasn’t aware of what the building used to be other than a nightclub. It’s lovely to see some of the memories being shared.
  4. Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham, @Mark Holland. PON is a very good community, I hope to see you join in.

  6. I believe @Piethagoram is spot on. Stuart Maynard will oversee Richard Montague and Joe Palmer will kick-start the process of bringing in new players. Montague appears to be deeply involved with player analytics, for both current squad members and potential signings. From the videos we’ve seen, when a new player arrives, Maynard gives them a tour and familiarises them with his vision. However, the financial and contractual aspects are not something a head coach would typically handle. The philosophy has its advantages, and so far, it hasn’t been a bad model. At our level, a few signings might not hit the mark. Over time, this should hopefully decrease. Yet, @Fan of Big Tone is correct, if a player underperforms, it’s more down to who recommended their signing. Maynard can only coach and motivate players, so not all blame lies with him in this scenario.
  7. The Academy's management is exceptionally effective. Everything at our level could be improved, but imagine the frustration of the coaches who invest so much effort into a young player, only for them to be released. Yes, you might start with around 16 youngsters, which is whittled down to 4-5 first-year professionals if you’re lucky. By the end of this journey, ideally, one or two wouldn’t be far off the first team. Selling potential first-team players is one thing, we can’t avoid that, but not providing a supportive environment for them to flourish is a missed opportunity. I’ve always felt that Jim O’Brien should have worked closely with the likes of James Sanderson, Madou Cisse, and Charlie Gill. If the club identified a senior player who could mentor our young players, it might better prepare them for life in the first team. We just throw them in and loan them out, there’s no time for them to settle and improve with the existing squad.
  8. I’m hoping we sign Alex Kirk. He seems to fit the bill quite nicely and having spoken to one of the Notts coaches recently, he appears to be highly regarded. He’s at an age where he should be able to step in when needed but also continue to improve over time.
  9. I think everyone felt that Alassana Jatta was brought in as a replacement for Macaulay Langstaff, which now seems to be the case. I believe he’ll take over from Macca, leaving Junior Morias as backup. Based on the PSF games so far, it looks like Cedwyn Scott will remain as an attacking midfielder/shadow striker. The club may decide to bring in additional competition.
  10. At least now, it seems we’re making progress. Reaching the final after poor performances speaks volumes. While we may not have won, I believe we have a good chance of growing stronger. England, like Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, will always have times when they bow out too early.
  11. I completely disagree with the notion of parents being held accountable for a child’s murderous actions. This could potentially open the door to blaming anyone who has had a negative impact on the person, such as teachers or grandparents. What about elderly grandparents doing their best, or single mothers? I believe this shifts responsibility away from the actual perpetrator and dramatises the deaths of those involved. I fail to see how this will prevent future incidents. Restrictions on violent games for under 18s are not enforced, and gaming often receives an unfair share of the blame. In cases of extreme neglect, parents should be held accountable, but I believe these would be few and far between. As previously mentioned, people will always find a way to obtain weapons. Some will be intent on committing murder, which is truly tragic. Yet little is done to prevent it, and holding parents responsible could lead to abuse of the system. Spoilt individuals who can’t get their own way might view this as the ultimate punishment for their parents. It’s wrong.
  12. The two of you could form an amusing comedy pair. However, I agree, it does resemble an obituary. I don’t believe it’s particularly effective in this context.
  13. Even for a magpie, that’s quite audacious and courageous. It’s a humorous clip, which leads me to ponder if the cat has had similar encounters with the magpie previously. Who can say? Nonetheless, it’s an amusing clip.
  14. Yes, go ahead and tease us younger supporters who have only experienced hollow promises and teams labelled as world conquerors under a misleading “golden generation”. Not only did you fortunate folks witness England clinch the most prestigious tournament, the World Cup, but many of you would have also had the pleasure of watching Notts compete in the top flight. At least under Gareth Southgate, despite underperforming, the team reaches the later stages. This provides a glimmer of hope for fans of my generation and younger ones.
  15. It appears that the transfer has sparked and revived Kyle’s passion for football. Fans who previously posted negative comments on Twitter, urging him to leave the club during last season’s poor form, might now be having second thoughts. While I’m delighted to see him thriving, I believe there’s no possibility that Notts will reap any benefits from this move.
  16. It’s reasonable for teams to spend the initial 10-20 minutes of a match trying to figure each other out. I felt the game against Spain was relatively open during the first half. Whatever Luis de la Fuente said at half time seemed to make a difference, as they emerged with a better understanding of how to create opportunities against us. In contrast, England started the second half in the same manner and quickly found themselves under pressure. In my view, Spain deserved the victory. They played some truly enjoyable football. However, I believe that if changes had been implemented earlier, England could have posed a greater threat. The decision to start Harry Kane, despite knowing he’s been immobile and struggling, seems questionable. But I can appreciate that he just needs one or two good opportunities to score. It might have made more sense to start Ollie Watkins instead of fielding two strikers. Spain struggled with the long balls and faster direct play, which all changed once substitutions were made. Cole Palmer has been a refreshing presence in the short time he’s been on the pitch. Unfortunately, John Stones and Kyle Walker contributed to our downfall due to their lack of defensive mindset and awareness. Their awareness was not so much about cutting out the danger, but rather being caught out and unable to block what led to goals. I thought Stones was incredibly average, unlike Marc Guehi. He performed exceptionally well throughout the Euros, I felt.
  17. He’s a skilled player at this level, quite refined. His journey began at Stoke City, before Derby picked him up for their academy. He’s got a good speed, enjoys being direct and is skilled at crossing. At the age of 26, there’s still potential for him to develop further and become a player who could excel in a League One team. I don’t think we’re signing him as a replacement for Jodi Jones, so fans need to calm down. I get that losing Macaulay Langstaff was significant, but I doubt any offers for Jones would be so tempting that we’d rush to accept. So, take it easy and appreciate the depth we have in our team. The squad is coming together nicely, though I agree there’s still room for more additions.
  18. I don’t anticipate the club signing a striker anytime soon. The presence of the young lad from Derby among our trialists reinforces my belief that we’ll give our current forwards a chance. They may not get the number 9 shirt, which I think will be reserved for a special announcement. I suspect this will happen during the January transfer window, with the club using it to signal their intent to push for promotion. Players like Junior Morias, who don’t get much game time, deserve a chance. The number 9 shirt should be saved for a high-profile signing in January.
  19. These characters are quite interesting, though having more than one can seem eerie. I’ve seen various characters from the same creator and have been thinking about buying one for my parents. It would be a fun way to show our neighbours where our loyalties lie.
  20. Some of Notts’ older stars, like Tony Hateley, have left a significant mark on the club. From what I’ve read, Hateley was instrumental to Notts, scoring crucial goals and bolstering the team. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to influence the club, as highlighted in the Alumni article.
  21. The club lost their CEO, didn’t they? This could have led to some errors. It’s amusing to see Wrexham list a player who still has a year left on their contract as released. It could be a mistake by the media team, and the player might actually be up for transfer.
  22. Greenland appears to be a beautiful place where one could immerse oneself in nature, despite its sparse population. Nature documentaries suggest that both Greenland and the Faroe Islands remain largely unspoiled by human activity.
  23. It’s possible that he simply didn’t mesh well with our system, and he never seemed like someone who would adapt and thrive. Will Randall’s transfer turned out to be unfruitful, though I don’t hold Notts responsible. It’s largely up to the player to showcase his skills, and the early injuries he sustained appear to have hindered him from making a strong start.
  24. I believe Kyle Cameron may surprise some of our fans with his capabilities and leadership as a captain. I get the sense that he was aware of the impending changes and that prompted him to consider leaving. Some fans might be upset about his decision to leave and accuse him of being sulky about losing the captaincy, but in reality, he has devoted much of his prime career years to the club. I wish him nothing but success, it’s heartening to see him doing well.
