Team: Leyton Orient

Date: 18/02/17

Where: Brisbane Road

What line-up should Kevin Nolan opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

Collin 5 still giving a Seamus impersonation of lack of confidence and communication.
Clackstone 5.5 much improved second half after an indifferent first. A misplaced pass upfield led to a serious Orient attack, fortunately their eventual cross lacked the quality to punish us
Hewitt 5.5 a much improved Hewitt under Nolan but positioning still questionable and concentration lapse allowed their first unchallenged
Duffy 5 again much improved under Nolan, but his failure to win his header allowed Orient their first
Bola 8 the end of Dicko. Sublime pass for Stead's winner
Yeates 6 uses ball well but faded second half
O'Connor 5.5 another stupid booking.
Milsom 6.5 outshined his midfield partner. Got stuck in
Grant 6 great reading of the ball for the first. We needed a goal scoring midfielder!
Stead 8 back to the Stead of old. Read the game well and works well with Ameobi
Ameobi 7 lack of pace but won the majority of headers and held up the ball so so well.

Satrday's Fixtures:
Barnsley v Brighton & Hove Albion
Wigan Athletic v Preston North End
Chesterfield v Bury
Sheffield United v Scunthorpe United
Doncaster Rovers v Luton Town

Out of the last dozen managers, Nolan is the first I actually listen out for after a game. He speaks with sense and passion, its good to have someone like that here. He reminds me of Martin Allen in a sense.

Received the latest edition of WSC (the one with Lincoln and Sutton on the cover) as was startled to find a FOUR-page feature on our home match against Mansfield. The article is written by F*rest fan Al Needham and also touches on the statue and the takeover. It's a well-written and (mostly) sensitive piece, recommended reading.

As we all know, the future of Notts County Ladies is still uncertain while the winding-up order is still at the club, but the Lady Pies today announced the signing of Louise Quinn, a Republic of Ireland international with 51 caps and former captain of Swedish side Eskilstuna United. Quite an illustrious signing, so reading between the lines, should we assume that things are more or less going to be alright with the Lady Pies?

So who was your man of the match for Notts County in Tuesday's crazy 2-2 draw with Exeter City?

Collin 6 - some good saves, a bit unfair to expect him to hold the shot for their second.
Hewitt 5.5 - some good challenges, but left gaps at right back and positionally slack in the centre
Audel 5.5 - loses a mark for a dreadful blunder to gift them the lead.
Duffy 7* - fairly sound defensively and caused them loads of problems when pushed forward late on.
Bola 6 - slightly hesitant at times but mostly competent.
Milsom 5.5 - struggled to get into the game a bit.
O'Connor 6.5 - not everything worked, but the pick of the midfield.
Yeats 5.5 - like Milsom, struggeld to get involved. Decent corners again.
Thompson 6 - some bright spells but seemed to fade as the game went on.
Smith 4.5 - a strange selection from Nolan, and one that failed miserably.
Stead 5 - looked a bit lost for most of the game.

Clackstone 6 - some good bits but also left a few gaps. Will have learned a lot.
Ameobi 7 - gave us a target up front and more attacking threat.
Grant 6.5 - looks a skillful sort who should be an asset.

Until Ameobi replaced Smith, we were poor. We lacked shape and cohesion, the passing was sloppy and our forward play consisted of mainly long hoofs forward which they dealt with easily. We created next to nothing and managed to gift them a goal. Until the senseless red card they looked more likely to add a second than we did to get an equaliser. To our credit we kept battling and were unlucky when Duffy hit the bar, but were compensated with the second goal. The bewildered smiles on everyone's faces on leaving the ground made it almost seem like a win!

Very sad to see him go. It's along time since I enjoyed watching an individual player at Notts so much.

All the best for the future, Stanley.

  • Delighted with the fightback, fantastic point but HTF did Orient win at Plymouth?? As has been mentioned though, it brings more clubs into the firing line after tonights results. For the record, our (RUFC) season lurches from one disaster to another (lost 3-2 to Huddersfield...93rd minute winner)
Minimum 4 points from Orient /Yeovil.....right?
    COYP

Alot of argyle supporters have been complaining about the ref and saying orient are a dirty team, so whether they deserved to win im not so sure

Tuesday night's Fixtures:
Norwich City v Newcastle United
Rotherham United v Huddersfield Town
Bristol Rovers v Sheffield United
Fleetwood Town v Bradford City
Carlisle United v Doncaster Rovers
Portsmouth v Blackpool

Would being the oldest professional league club really be important if Notts are unsuccessful in their bid to retain their league 2 status?

I am interested in reading the views of other PON members.

I've just been reading about how Duffy only had to play one more game when Nolan came in to trigger another 1 year deal, however Hardy asked him to have it removed and be selected and Duffy credit to him had it removed to play more, he's not the best defender in the world but what a gesture from the man. Hopefully he can help steer us to safety and maybe get a short term deal.

Notts County season ticket holder Eric Jackson is raising awareness of a campaign to save his granddaughter’s life.

Two-year-old Florence is living with a rare cancer called Neuroblastoa and requires pioneering treatment in the USA.

Flo’s family must raise £250,000 to fund the trip and are off to a flying start with donations already totalling more than £100,000.

The case is similar to that of Sunderland supporter Bradley Lowery, who has seen the football world unite in his support.

Eric, who has followed Notts since the Lawton and Sewell era and sits with his wife Suzanne in the Derek Pavis Stand, is delighted with the generosity the appeal has been met with so far.

And he is now keen to spread the word further to help parents Rod and Caz give Flo her very best chance of getting better.

Eric said: “I am so proud of Rod and Caz, who could not have given or done more for Flo.

“They have been on 24/7 call and spend more time in hospital than they do at home.

“I appeal to everyone to donate, no matter how small, and share our campaign in any way they can – via social media, email or simply word of mouth.

“£250,000 is a huge target but we have been amazed with the response so far. A massive ‘thank you’ to everyone who has donated – it means the world to our family.”

Notts chairman and owner Alan Hardy added: “Everyone at Notts is devastated to hear of Flo’s story but we’re determined to help her family achieve their target.

“I would urge everyone to come together and support this crucial cause.”

  • Great day yesterday, the first half as the best I've seen from us this season. That's not saying much given how low the bar has been set I know but it was a vast improvement. Second half we did sit back a bit too much for my liking but thankfully Cheltenham were poor and rarely threatened. We had great chances to finish it off on the break, but in typical notts fashion we have to make it a nervous finale! Still, a massive 3 points. A great turnout and a brilliant atmosphere too. The whole ground was rocking, even the Pavis was chanting. And how nice was it to see home fans in County Road again too?

By no means are we sae yet but we'e giving ourselves a fighting chance. Whatever Nolans doing the players are clearly buying into it. Long may it continue

@DangerousSausage Gary Johnson the Cheltenham manager commented on it in the Football League Paper "you could see they were eager to get going...there was a big crowd in too. It just showed the importance of a partisan support".

Third highest attendance in League 2 Saturday behind only Portsmouth (as you'd expect) and the Devon derby.

It was a great atmosphere and the players rose to the occasion.

Thought it would be interesting to start a thread on looking at the opposition players.

3 were worthy of consideration

#8 Billy Waters Neat footballer, caused Notts some problems with good choice of passes around the Notts area

Who was your man of the match for Notts against Cheltenham and why?

Based on a mean of 5

Collin - 6 - better than normal but still question his decision making

Bola - 6.5 - Some tidy stuff and good link up play. Defensively didn't take risks
Duffy - 7 - Best performance in a Notts shirt
Audel - 6.5 - Solidity, good partnership with Duffy
Hewitt - 5.5 - again much better than normal Hewitt fare. Dear diary, Hewitt put in a good tackle. Still suspect positionally

Yeates - 6 -Better 1st half, but does give the side some balanceiet game, good shot that hit the bar
Thompson - 6 Excellent 1st half, faded in second
Milsom - 6 - Did simple things well, but overshadowed by O'Connor
O'Connor - 6.5 - Gem of a pass to Stead for opener. Combative in midfield in winning headers

Stead - 7.- Back to the Stead of all. Class finish
Ameobi - 6 -Good touches but lacked pace

Subs:

Grant - n/a
Forte - 6 - Should have buried the game
Campbell - 5 ... Should have scored from follow up to Forte's shot
