Where's the money gone...an excellent listen, podcast on football finances and need for an independent football regulator

I do think much of what is mentioned makes sense, using a licensing system would make it more manageable when it comes to bad owners. I'm not sure how it would work in regard to having the licence removed, then the prospective sale of the club.

In a previous discussion, I did mention how councils can take back homes which aren't in use and are abandoned - if something like this can be worked into football it would help.

If an owner is scared of losing all of their assets, then they may be more inclined to sell up quicker and move on to avoid losing out further.

Interesting that when my team was mentioned it was stated that our owner couldn't make up the losses of my club. In fact he withdrew his backing to save his own losses. So the owner endorses overspending and gambles on the club gaining promotion then walks away when he doesn't want to lose any more money and the club and fans suffer,

first time i have felt like changes could have a large positive impact on football, i noticed they did talk about what happens a owner lost a license and could they force the club to sell. i think they are wrong about chelsea tho, roman abramovich wanted out before the uk started putting pressure on him. i dont think they made him sell the club, so that seems off but if it could work it would make football safer.

i would imagine it would prevent some from trying to buy clubs too, as it increases the risk.

The podcast was excellent, very informative and concise with much-needed changes to the game being discussed. I concur that the suggestions made could greatly benefit the game and it’s something that should have been implemented years ago.

It all sounds very promising for football. If they can put into practice most of what was discussed, it should positively impact the game and spare many fans the pain and suffering. I hope they can tweak the rules with VAR, as it’s quite straightforward to do in my opinion. This could also prevent further drama.

The podcast does discuss potential amendments that could enhance the situation regarding debt in football. I concur that the deduction of points does dissuade some owners, but not all. In the future, such changes should be implemented across all clubs under FIFA’s regulations.

Everything seems logical, and I hope they adhere to what’s being reported here without incessantly tweaking things. This is typically where things go awry; it’s best to keep things as straightforward yet effective as possible.

The podcast discussed several ways to hold the ownership accountable. It’s positive that fans can prevent changes to their team colours and club crests. It would be good to protect grounds from being sold by dubious owners and force councils to listen to fans regarding planning permission.

If this licence can be enforced and owners are made to adhere to stricter rules, it could significantly alleviate the debt issues we often see. Sometimes, owners may have a tendency to gamble, throwing caution to the wind and overspending in the hopes of achieving promotion. There’s much that can be done, but this is certainly a positive beginning.

For more detailed information about the changes, you can read further here. I found the podcast quite enjoyable to listen to; it’s highly informative, especially in relation to football, which is valuable given the scarcity of such resources.

The introduction of some reform should significantly help in addressing the issue of overspending. There’s a case to be made for fans declaring their budget and how it’s being allocated. This could instil a sense of realism among fans and a better understanding that a club can’t continually spend money on signings, transfer fees, wages, and agents.
