Update.

Notts 0 Port Vale 1, 37 mins

Notts have had plenty of possession, 70%, but Port Vale are holding firm, & they have the goal.

Update.

Big chance for Vale.

Half Time

Work to do in the second half.

Notts 0 Port Vale 1.

Notts have had plenty of possession but didn't do much with it in the last 15 minutes

Maybe a change or two will be seen at half time or maybe after 15 mins of the second half if Notts don't get a goal.

Maybe Abbott & Martin for Austin & Tsaroulla.

Update.

Notts 0 Port Vale 1,

76 mins gone

Notts have plenty of the ball but it's gone a little bit static. Needs to be some incisive passing to break Vale down.

Plenty of possession, had the chances in that first half, but today we lacked the quality in that final third, & Notts couldn't finish when they did get the chances.

Notts conceded on the counter once again. Notts huffed and puffed in the second half & only created one chance.

Unfortunately, Vale have done to us, what we did to Carlisle.

Notts have certainly missed Jones & McGoldrick.

But Notts are still only one point behind Walsall who are top.

It's a wide open league this season. All the contenders are dropping points. It is concerning that Notts can't beat the teams around us. 2 defeats at home already.

Top of the 2nd Division after today's matches. Notts are only one point behind top place.

I think we have to put things into perspective. If Notts had put one of those 3 or 4 chances away in the first 25 minutes, the result may well have been different.

Vale would have had to come out and that would have left space for Notts to exploit. Notts did perform at a high level but unfortunately, conceded to a Vale break on the counter.

There is no doubt that Notts missed, Jones, Edwards, Grant & McGoldrick today

News about Grant, he's going to be out for at least 6 weeks maybe even longer, so that's more bad news on the injury front.

Notts are still up there near the top & still in the mix. Notts just have to dig in & try to grind out results while these key players are missing, & that will begin at Chesterfield next Saturday.

BEWARE of all the Negatives for this Match from So Called Fans. Maynard doesn't know what he's doing. That's two Top Teams Notts have Failed To Beat Etc Etc Regardless of the Magpies Injury Problems which seems to be Turning In To A Crisis. I believe a Vast Majority of the Notts Faithful will Stick with the Team. It would seem Notts are in Desperate need of a New Striker, can Junior be called Back, or is he definitely out on Loan till January with No Call Back? Because of the Worrying form of Cedwyn Scott, who still hasn't opened his Goal Scoring Account. Like Macca at Millwall Ceds just needs that first Goal and hopefully will be able to Kick On From there.

We are going to have to work on a few different strategies/ideas to break down the teams that just put everyone behind the ball and are actually well organised because the space won’t just open up. That’s going to happen again against the better teams this season.

I thought we were too slow and didn’t try to be creative enough we kept opting for the simple pass to feet. We were taking 3 touches at times when we needed to take 2 and even sometimes try 1 touch stuff around their box to break through. We had them more stretched with our wing-backs on their natural side but the two attacking midfielders closest to them didn’t really link up with them that well. We are usually so good at slipping the ball in behind and I think we did it once or twice.

Still think we need Crowley higher up, look at last season he was making runs into the box and scoring, other than his chance early on I think he was far too deep. At the end it looked like he was partnering Platt at the back!

I will say I was quite surprised Port Vale adopted the low/mid-block approach, thought their team had enough quality in it to come at us a bit more, but there you go. Definitely got a tad lucky in that they barely ventured forward and still scored but they did defend their box very well. We didn’t do enough to win, far from it, given how much of the ball we had we were pretty toothless with it.
