Where are they now : George Abbott

Featured Replies

We expected that George would either be loaned out to a League 1 or Championship Club for this season & it's league 1 Wycombe, who have got themselves a gem for the season.

I'm sure George will be superb for them, & I will be keeping an eye on his progress.

Proud to be a supporter for 58 years & counting of the oldest professional football club in the World. COYP

Interesting move - a little odd to me that it’s another “season long” loan. Some Clubs in the Prem seem reluctant to enable players to develop more within their own environment & top players etc.

I’d suggest that in most other European leagues a player like Abbott might get a few months out on loan then work back at his own club and get opportunities, at least in fringe competitions and the odd “squad” appearances with the first team. Then move him up a to a higher level loan for a spell. Too many seem scared of youth and think a player needs to be 20 before they get a chance. Contrast that with Arsenal & Liverpool’s star 15 & 16 year olds. They are prepared to take the risk, it appears.

Abbott has huge potential, he’s talented, his attitude is spot on, he’s a battler - worth “fast tracking”, surely? In any event, I wish him well and will follow his progress accordingly.

I want to be clear about why I added the laughing emoji, and it's due to how badly the picture of George Abbott has been done. It's awful; I can't believe a professional would think that it's good enough to publish. Should I cut out the arms, too, one longer than the other? Why? I am not an expert with digital media, but I think I could do a better job than that. Why not leave his body in and add an overlay to cover the bottom half, having been cut out??? There would be no need to cut elsewhere, and the text could go inside the overlay. Embarrassing on Wycombe Wanderers part.

Good luck to George Abbott and Wycombe, he's a class act and should easily make the step up. I am certain they are a suitable team to further his career and expose him to a level above ours.

"Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value."

That cutout of George Abbott looks seriously awkward. Hopefully he performs better for Wycombe than they did with that image. He’s a talented young lad who needs the right support, and I reckon Wycombe fans will be pleased with him by the end of the season.

George Abbott is a top player who should go far. Wycombe shouldn’t be as much of a challenge as it was coming here, as he’s now got a solid base and a year of senior football behind him. When he first joined us, he was nervous and still learning. Now he’s figured out the kind of player he is, he just needs to keep working hard.

I know Wycombe can play good attacking football, but I do think George Abbott could have joined a stronger side. I’d have liked to see him at a club like Lincoln City or Stockport County.

Wycombe Wanderers’ style isn’t exactly the same as ours, but they do favour attacking football. I suspect they’ll deploy George Abbott similarly to how we did, but he could find himself further up the pitch.

I don’t blame Tottenham Hotspur for wanting to take him a level up; personally, I would have tried to find a Championship team, but he should have a lot more time on the ball in League One. This should help him establish his presence, and I hope their squad looks after him similarly to how ours did.

A field where dreams become reality.

It's strange how players develop differently at similar ages. George Abbott at 19 is in his second season long loan in EFL league 1. Compared with Lamine Yamal who at 18 is a regular in the Barcelona first team and has already made his senior debut for the Spanish national team. He also became the youngest player to be nominated for the Ballon d'Or at 17.

I’m curious to see how George Abbott gets on without the support he had at Notts. It’ll be interesting to see if he plays the same way for them. His role will be key, because we know he’s a classy player who’s going places. Being loaned to a League One side makes sense, bigger clubs want to test their young players at higher levels before pushing them further. Spurs have done that before with signings from League One and the Championship. I wish Abbott all the best at Wycombe.

Best Of Luck Georgie Boy. After last season down the Lane, I was surprised a Championship Club didn't come in for him. I think he's have done well at Derby. Wycombe have got themselves a Gem and if they back him like the Magpies did, he'll be in for another Good Season, I'll keep an eye out on his progress.
