People are already putting their decorations up, what is going on!?!?

First thing this month the shops started their pursuit in profit, I hate to moan but this is what ruins the festive period. People celebrating early!

Am i alone?

We put ours up the coming Saturday now we're playing on Friday night. Cheers for that Notts. I get to freeze my wotnots off up a ladder hanging icicles from the garage while the wife and kids 'do' the tree in the warm.

I was discussing this with Mrs. H. yesterday, it seems that Christmas starts earlier and earlier every year or does it? I can't really remember when we started seeing Christmas things in the shops years ago, I always remember we knew Christmas had started when we saw the Ticka Ticka Timex Christmas advert on the telly but I can't remember how early it was.

I suppose in the shops defence Christmas is the biggest time of the year for them and it's people spending that keeps other people in work, that's how the capitalist system works.

We won't be putting ours up until December, our eldest grandchildren come for their monthly visit on the 6th so they will have to be up by then or we'll be in trouble.

That's a good thing.

Nothing wrong with the holidays are coming or what they do. Its the consumers fault, if people didn't panic it wouldn't happen.

I think we'll see it getting earlier and earlier.

Heidelberg Christmas market opened today, and most of the others are following on Wednesday. That's a good few days earlier than usual. I love the Christmas market but it's just not the same when it's about 10 degrees ...

But that's a minor thing. A few years I returned from holiday on 1 September to find the supermarket stocking up on Christmas food!

As I've got two young kids we put our tree up on Saturday along with a few small decorations, then we have had / are going to have fun adding to our decorations as the days / weeks go by, the look of excitement and wonder in equal measure makes Christmas for me & the wife

I don't think we'd bother as much if it wasn't for the grandkids. It is nice to see the look on their faces and see their excitement increase as christmas gets closer.

When we were  working at the same place ,near the city centre, super and me hated going around the shops as christmas approached. So many people seemed to be just walking around aimlessly, and groups of people stood talking and blocking walkways and aisles.Aargh!!!

We try to do most of our present shopping on line, it's a real drag going round the shops, I hate it. Luckily Mrs. H. feels the same.

We went to IKEA yesterday because Mrs. H. wanted some wall lights for when the bedroom is decorated. It was horrible, we hate the place, you are herded round like sheep and carried along with the crowd, we couldn't wait to get out after we finally found our wall lights.

Heidelberg? I was there just a couple of weeks ago. Lovely place.

I'm just up the road in Darmstadt. :P

I agree. We went to IKEA not so long back, we were looking forward to going as we needed to furnish a whole flat and thought a lot of good things could come for Ikea, that wouldn't break the bank.

We were half right. They wouldn't break the bank, for sure, but the quality was crap.

I pity you  have you been to the Böllenfalltor to see the Lilien?

I work in HD, and live down the road in Mannheim. My wife works in Darmstadt.

Mannheim's city centre is based on a grid system, but funnily it has a circular Christmas market. You get lost there before you've even started on the Glühwein.

Yes I have, the atmosphere is pretty flat as far as German teams go. Plus, my German team is Arminia Bielefeld :P

I am going this Friday though.

Hmmm, the only place I know in Darmstadt is E.S.O.C.
