Scot Bennett. Versatile player hoping to help us get promotion back to League One.

Sounds OK. Former captain, turned down a new deal at Exeter, mainly played at the back for them. Anyone seen him play?

Here's a thread on him from an Exeter forum. "Jack of all trades, master of none" comes up a lot:

Versatility is both a good thing and a bad thing. I hope he is signed as a position specific player unless he is, like the rest of us, stuck on the bench!!

Nice to see a signing at last!!!

Come on Notts let's get a few more in to fill up the desperate positional needs!

A versatile player sounds good, he can fill in positions in a smallish squad. Let's hope he has a successful stay with Notts.

He left Exeter because he wanted to play at centre half instead of covering other positions. I doubt he would have signed for us if we wanted him to fill in all over the pitch.

Centre Half is his best position. Let him play there exclusively and we should reap the benefits. Decent signing at this level.

We need more life in the centre of the park.

Should be a good addition.

He's captain material for sure. We need a few leaders.

Liddle wanted to play in midfield but ended up preferring the CB role because he covered it so well.

I see this as being a very promising signing. Young but experienced and since he's captained his former club, it makes sense that he is the type of player we should sign. The fact he covers multiple positions, is just an added bonus. We need a solid centre back and on paper it seems we have one who may potentially partner Hollis. This could be a good thing for Hollis, as he does well with players who are alert and cover ground, it allows him to do his no nonsense approach.

You Pies!

He should prove to be an excellent addition to the squad, exactly the type of player we should be approaching IMO.

i am pleased by the signing, tho i am disappointed that we are only signing our first player. some very good players at this level have already been signed by our competitors and we really must start to take shape soon.

welcome to meadow lane scot, hope you enjoy wearing our shirt with pride.

It's still early days @liampie.Don't get downhearted yet,the play off finals were only last weekend.Expect a flurry of activity throughout the leagues very soon.

I was looking for a statement of intent from the club with the first signing.

If the statement is signing a player who was stripped of the captaincy and couldn't establish himself in a side that finished 10th, then I fear for the intent of the club.

Exeter fans on the whole aren't too bothered by him leaving, can't nail down a position, is apparently not very good with his feet (we've got Hollis who is the same!) and is slow. It's hard to judge a player before seeing him play, but fans of his previous side are a good indicator. If a side that finishes 10th aren't fussed, it doesn't bode well.

It seems to have been well received, it certainly bodes well seeing us sign the better players from other clubs. I am optimistic that this lad may do the job for us! We need him and the others to do it for sure.

Steady signing but nothing too exciting, should do a good job for us though if he's proven at League 2 level.

i think its quite woeful that we have let some of the better talent available slip, luton and mansfield have made a couple of decent signings.

Its a steady signing to be fair, its one the previous season we would have overlooked because of the philosophy of that time.

If we can get some signings which will put fans in seats, it will help. If we go into the season having missed out on potential signings, which always seems to be the case. I just think that is what indicates we may struggle, as we seem haunted by our past or hampered by the existing board.
